Critics' Lounge / Re: Alien character WIP

I like the design. Since it's an alien, it's a bit hard to critique the anatomy, but maybe make the upper arm a bit longer, define the eyes more (I think Arboris' idea is good), and use shading instead of the black line to make the lower body round and slug-like. Right now it looks a bit blocky in both versions.

Congratulations, Erin! Sounds like a fun event. You're right about country music too, anything else will do :)

I just noticed this page with mention and an embedded TV spot reviewing AGS

Troldspejlet

It's from a Danish TV program called 'Troldspejlet' which has been reviewing cartoons, video games and anything else fantasy/sci-fi/cult since 1989 - it's quite popular.

The review explains briefly about AGS, showing a game (Apprentice II) and the engine itself, explaining it's primarily for the 'determined' amateur developers, since it has a learning curve and many advanced features. It's a very positive review though, urging people to try some AGS games  :=

I think you should bring him some flowers.

Good, solid poems.

Wish I could help you, but I haven't looked into AS3 too much yet. I can recommend the Mochiads.com forums for getting help on flash issues, good luck :)

I like the built-in "Inspector" that opens when I right-click and select "Show details about this element." It looks like a really handy debugging tool for my own html.

I'm still using AS2, but that's mostly because I haven't had time to learn AS3. AS3 runs much faster when it comes to stuff like physics, 3d, and particle systems, so I'll change to it eventually. But I expect it will take some time to get used to the new syntax and concepts.

Kinoko, you do realize the tutorial is for AS2, right? You may need to do things differently in AS3.

Congratulations!  ;D

I can recommend the mochiads.com forums where both flash game developers and sponsors/publishers/portal owners hang out.  Great place for showcasing your flash and teaming up with others. You can always post a link there to your 'stickman adventures' game for starters, as far as I remember it was on newgrounds.com so it can't have disappeared with your hd  :=

Call of Cthullhu: Dark Corners of the Earth - especially the escape sequence from Innsmouth hotel, running from room to room frantically trying to bolt the doors behind me. Also, that game has the coolest sanity system I've seen so far - hallucinations, panic attacks, vertigo, paranoia, the whole deal. I would have made a different ending to the game though, and tweaked difficulty in many places, but still one of the best games I played in a long time  :o

I believe (hope) that he was kidding. The lack of any smileys and such could through someone off, but the backwards of Egad is dage.

Yes, well, I get that a lot - people think I'm arrogant. Actually I'm not, though, it just seems that way to less intelligent people.

It could be based on "The Narrative of Arthur Gordon Pym" by Edgar Allan Poe: It's about an ill-fated sea voyage, it has a fantastic ending and many traits that can be used in an adventure game setting, like strange symbols and riddles. Maybe it's a bit ambitious for one month, but it's still great inspiration, and describes many puzzles aboard a ship, like hiding from mutineers and staying alive below deck. The whole novel is available here:
The Narrative of Arthur Gordon Pym of Nantucket
Dont't be scared by the dull title - it's one of the most thrilling texts ever written :)

Cool style, and I wish you would make that game ('QUICKLY, WEASEL! HUMANITY SHUNS YOU!' cracks me up).

One thing I noticed is that at first glance I thought the yellow sky was a wall, maybe because the ship in the first panel looks a little like bricks behind torn wallpaper. Other than that, it looks very good.

Critics' Lounge / Re: C & C for BG and sprite

The new one is way too dark, imo. I can hardly make out anything, and if I hadn't seen the previous screens I wouldn't be able to make any sense of it. Something in between Neil Dnumas edit and your latest version would be better. Keep it up though, it's a nice style.

I think it looks decent, especially if you want to keep it simple. A few points of crit could be:

* He looks mirrored. Even with simple shading it should be possible to make the pose a bit less symmetrical.
* Ears are placed very high.
* Shoulders are a bit round.
* He's looking cross-eyed
* the feet are pointing out weird.
* The highlights on the cheeks are placed weird in the front pose.

I think it's very good :) - and yes, the center tooth was problematic. I also like the changes you made on the outline, and reshading the brow and the cheeks. He does look angrier now.

With just minor changes, this version is my new favorite.

I think it's a bit easier to see the teeth now. Then again, it also depends on monitor resolution.  On my own monitor the single pixel teeth are just barely visible.

I just discovered www.igLoader.com

Quote from: igLoader site
"igLoader is a cross browser plugin that allows virtually any windows based software to be delivered and operated within the browser window. igLoader is unique in its implementation and simplicity; igLoader is compatible with Firefox, Opera, Internet Explorer and other Win32 browsers"

Has anyone tried if it works with AGS executables?  I should add that my own first attempt didn't work, but maybe I did someting wrong  - it still might be worth a try if anyone has spare time for it.
