Critics' Lounge / A house on the hill.

Hey! Made a background (not finished yet):

I'm wondering which direction should I take. I drew the image using black outlines, as you can see on the car, tree and path. I then went on to remove the outlines to achieve a clean style I'm used to. For a second I thought what if I kept the black outlines? Since the caracters I have drewn have 'em.

The problem is I want everything to fit together. I thought that theoretically characters with dark outlines don't exactly wit well with backgrounds that don't have any at all (a mistake I have often made... or is it a mistake?)

Here's a quick mashup with characters:

Or should I do it the way I usually do - characters with darker outlines, backgrounds with no outlines at all.

But if I choose to use outlines (not black but darker shade of the same colour) on the background should I use them everywhere on the image? Background mountains, grass? Even clouds? :P

Actually I think the first image (with the vanishing point in the centre) looks the best. It looks natural because the viewpoint is aproximately on the same level as standing human's eyes, therefore this is how we actually see rooms in real life. With the vp too high it seems as we were crawling on the floor and with low vp it's just odd.

Yet, low vanishing point means that the walkable area is instantly a narrow horizontal strip, therefore no scaling nor up/down movement will be necessary. Which is good.

I suggest you leave the vanishing point as it is and try to think through the background and its walkable areas the right way to avoid scaling, as Babar mentioned. Keep in mind that the whole floor doesn't necessarily have to be walkable area.

A modern building in old town. Or are the old buildings the misplaced ones?

Could have added more detail, but I'm kinda lazy.
