Critics' Lounge / Window reflection
Wed 04/05/2011 20:52:46
Hey.

Long story short. I drew a diner. It has a lot of glass-covered surface. I wasn't sure what to do with it. Just painting it blue or grey would result in a lot of boring plain area. So I decided to draw reflection on it. I've never done this before. How to do it? Is it ok to leave the sunny side bright or do I have to draw reflections there as well? Any good reference pics? How to make clear it's a reflection and not stuff painted on glass? Should I ditch the reflection and shade the windows in a cool way?

Thanks! :)

PS. the bg is unfinished in every way, but feel free to comment and criticize on anything else if you want to.

What bugs me a bit is that some details (chair, boxes) have darker outlines which kind of clashes with the rest of the picture (no outlines). Also, add some details 'n stuff as said before, plus add depth to the window and door. You might also try to increase contrast (eg between the darker and brighter shades of the boxes)

Overall you have a nice clean style and good use of colours.

Highly anticipating! Obviously. ;D

I must have missed this thread before. This looks awesome! I once played around with a similar idea in my head, but never got to making anything. Best of luck!

A small update: I'm working on the game slowly but steadily. I still hope to get a playable demo out soon enough.

A new screenshot for show:

Big thanks to everyone for your support! :)

I don't know what's going on with Imageshack, but just in case I reuploaded the images on the Roadworks thread to a different place. Hope you see them now.

A small sleepy town somewhere in the USA. A man named Dominic is an ordinary road construction worker, happy with life just the way it is. On a beautiful summer day everything changes. He gets fired.

But Dominic is no quitter. Instead of getting into depression and drowning his problems into alcohol, he starts fighting to get his beloved job back. With a little help from his friends, Dom gets into fantastic adventures filled with drama and action.

Screenshots:

There is no certain release date yet.

Progress:
The game can roughly be divided into 3 parts. The first one is almost complete. If things go well, I might release a demo soon.

I'd suggest make his head bigger and/or neck longer. He looks real skinny.

Bwasdf. They get mugged, though not really hilariously. Ah well, tbh I didn't even know who Abbott and Costello were until just now.

I'm no expert, but where I come from I think it's called grindcore. Or Goregrind. They're two different things though, I guess. Anyway, I don't really know how to appreciate this type of music, but it sounds pretty cool.

I think you should increase the contrast between the surface and outlines' colors, especially on the skin. And lose the double pixels.

Thanks, ProgZmax, the edit points out the flaws pretty good. I'm going to work on the colors and textures.

Once again, back to drawing board. Will post new version soon.

Hello folks. It's been a while since I last posted something on the CL. Anyways I've been working on some graphics which will hopefully end up in a game.

So here's a bg of a bar interior:

Now I'm relatively happy with this one, but I'm sure there's room for improvement. Anything that needs instant changing? Anything I should add? Let me know what you think. Any help is welcome.:)
