This is Bernowergh Du Wargeesier, a daily visitor of the Mars Cafe. Usually he's just sipping coctail and chatting with his friends about the old times.

Looking as awesome, as it is, there are only few things bothering me.

The blue house on the right; its perspective does not really match with the rest of the bg. But, then again, the bit of a cartoony style doesn't really need much of a perspective, so that's OK.

And other thing - Tino Pizza's front door is looking so small! Well at least comparing it with the door just across the street. Or is that a garage door? Then it works fine.

Thanks for all the replies.
Actually he's not supposed to be a child, he's an... er.. adult.
Well, now by all your help, I've made him like that:

*made the contrast of shading higher
*made his legs taller
*changed his head
*no more baggy pants :)

Critics' Lounge / A tiny character!

Well, recently I thought that I should once finish my god-damn game. But then I accidentally had an idea of making the game a little bit longer (god-damn me!), which means for me more work, and shifts the release date a little bit later.
So - I just drew another character. And since he's supposed to be in the far corner of the room, he's damn small! (goddamn me and my BG that needs character scaling!)
I haven't really drawen any characters THAT small, so he looks kinda... Dunno.
It's here:

And 3X zoom:

I think when Buloght makes characters, then they should have Buloght's style, because it looks better than your style (no offense, but it just is so). And I'd advise you to hire someone to do the BGs too, that could fit with Buloght's style. I mean - I can't imaginate a game with damn good looking characters but with these.. um.. BGs you got there.

Anyway, good luck on the sequel.

Well, have to say, I kinda like InCreator's paintover. And I get what he meant with it. That the boring plain areas could use some textures.
Which means to me - to get back to work.

OK, I get what you mean. So the BG lacks contrast. It really is a problem. And this problem exists with most of my BGs.
I tried to do something here. Dunno, is it much better, but the sky and the asphalt are more lighter.

I think the asphalt is fine now, but I still don't like the sky. Not sure, what to do with it.

Quotehowever, I'm more excited by the fact that your game is already 92% finished!

The game is almost finished, especially graphically. The only thing I need to do with it is some boooring scripting... and I find making graphics much more entertaining, so I'm already drawing graphics for another game..
I hate scripting. :P
Anyway, really glad to see you're intrested in my game :)

Thanks,
did some changes.

Here:

So I:
-changed it a little bit lighter
-made the shadows longer, to make it look more like morning
-changed the car a little bit
-added some junk
-added some oil. Does it look like oil?
-added one more flower...

Well, DutchMarco, that is also good point to add textures on the plain areas. Dammit, got not very much time, but I hope to do it soon. :)

Thanks, everyone.
The reason why it looks too dark may be because I've got very bad monitor and I don't see the graphics like you do because of that.

Adding some details such as trash and other stuff is not bad idea. I'll see what I come up with.

Oh, and the time was supposed to be morning... or something like that.
But anyways I will make it lighter.

Critics' Lounge / BG - garages
Wed 22/03/2006 19:33:11
So - well - here's my latest BG. It's supposed to be a garages block which is very common in my neighborhood. And this BG will possibly be used in my next game.
Well -- here it is:

So - the main problems:
-It looks way too empty. What kinda details should I add?
-The grass in the front sucks a lot. What should I do with it?
-The shading - I tried to do it mostly pixel-by-pixel. Does it looks good?
-The colors.
-Also, this BG has very low funcionality, but I think that's allright.

And if you think of anything else, then just let me know.;)

Thanks.

:o God, how good entries! Every single one is just so good! It will be very hard to vote these bg-s!

I'll try to enter too, if I find some time.
#276
It certainly does look good -- but there's one thing that could be improved. In the wall corner the contrast between two walls should be bigger. Right now it looks like there's no corner at all, especially in the lower part of the wall.

And maybe the cardboard boxes could be a little darker - they just seem to stand out of the bg too much.

Name:
Kristjan Laimets aka gameboy

Age:
only 14... until April.
I don't know am I too young to be here... but what the hell. :P

Female/male:
Male

1. How long have you been involved in the AGS community?
Since the end of 2005. A very little time.

2. Why did you get involved in AGS?
Because I've always been a big fan of adventure games. And programming itself.

3. How do you feel that the fact that AGS is a freeware programme affect the community that has built up around it?
Well... It certainly is good that AGS is freeware. Otherwise the community would not be that big.

4. How big a part does the AGS community play in your life?
I come to the forum pretty often, but it isn't really very important in my life. I mostly move around Estonian forums, but -- I have to say that Estonian forums suck because there's so much spam! And there's no AGS forums in Estonia which is bad.

5. Have you been involved in making any games using AGS? You may list them if you want
I've been involved in the two following games: Santas sidekick and Clip goes to town.

6. Answer these questions if you have been involved in making AGS games:
Okay, then:

a. Were you interested in game design/programming before you started using AGS?
Yes I was. Before AGS I've used QBasic and Game Maker. Even got some games released with GM.

b. If no, do you feel that you would have got into game design without AGS?
Not gonna answer this one.

c. Do you make games using other programmes, either freeware or not? How does the eperience differ?
I mostly use an old version of Game Maker. I've made a lot of games with it. Very little of them released. And none in English.

The most famous game I've ever made is Karaas (a wannabe racing game :P) which was pretty popular in Estonia some time ago. Well, the game itself sucked.

d. Has AGS inspired you to try and take up game design professionally?
A little bit maybe... But I don't think that I will ever be a proffessional game designer.

7. Do you feel that there is a gender divide in the AGS community?
Um... no?

8. Are you likely to feel differently about a game if you discover it's made by a female? In what way?
Er... no. Should I?

9. Do you feel that AGS makes it easier for females to get involved in computer game design? In what way?
Not really.

10. Do you feel that there is a difference between the types of games created by males and females?
No, not really.

11. Any other comments?
No, I'm already friggin tired of answering all those questions...:P

Well the colors are mostly fine, the only thing I don't like is that the floor-color could use a less-saturated color.

The graphics are damn good! And the story itself looks awesome and kinda mysterious! I just like games like that!
Can't wait for it!
