Just been reading this thread :) and wondered if this tinting would be good for night time - as in my game I will be needing the day to change to night time each night for 7 days and would this have to happen by event_handler? Let me know, that be great thanks :)

:) thanks heaps for the tip iSTVAN. I think I will do similar when my game is finished or further on in its progress and hey guys, don't worry I will start to post the progress of my game in a thread when I get to the stage that its ready to be put together. iSTVAN, your blog is brilliant and inspired me to set up one for my game so I will post the link here soon. *Excited clapping* (lol this is my funny trademark that I have carried for the 23 years I have been playing computer games - always clapped like mad when I solved even one small puzzle/problem in a gameÃ,  :D :D :D, it was loud and my family would come running to see what it was about lol and it makes me laugh today, that clap.) Anyhow, I am sure I will do a few claps throughout your game :P.

I am continuously very impressed with the progress of your game!! You are doing great! I wonder how you got your game into the magazine and how I could do this for my game down the track? Publicity and advertising are the hardest part lol :). Am keeping my eyes peeled for the release of your game ;) And iSTVAN, you are an inspiration to us here, well to me at least, just had a read of your blog! Its brilliant and I can see you have a lot to offer in the way of teaching us many things. Thank you once again!
#225
Hey thanks :) I will try that. Anything is worth trying :) Cheers!

Ok strazer, no need to explain urself. Now about campfire, getting it to work, can we please bounce around ideas? I have asked this question 3 times, so sorry but I do want some help. I imagine maybe its just simple animation when it gets dark? thank you
#227
ah yes I do know the difference already lol. Sorry I must have mistyped in my rush to type everything out but I do know the difference ;) :P. Anyway could someone help me with an idea for a campfire for night time only? :) I have some fair idea but lets bounce ideas! :)
#228
Ok thanks for clarifying it for me Gilbot :). I guess in that case I won't take chances on using any plugins for the game as I want everyone to be able to play the game. Now this will leave me wondering how I will work the candlelight one as it is a plug in type module. If someone can help me with this part, help me get started on how I could implement candlelight to follow through the darkness please that would be great! :)

Also while on this issue, a campfire - how can one be implemented while there is a module for this that is plugin - that I rather avoid, instead using a normal module for fire?
#229
Hi, this may be a noob question but I saw Plugin Manager on ags editor but it is greyed out, no option to upload a .dll file (I think) to it - how do I activate this and also is this the right place for .dll files as the module manager only accepts .scm files....?

another question relating to modules - if I am right, I must draw the animates/sprites to fit in with a module. For e.g. candlelight module would need a candle sprite with its big light glow around it right? Or add candle to character sprite and make a 'lighting' area as a seprate sprite to 'follow character' and then execute the module? I am learning about how to use modules at this stage in preparation for my actual game. Many thanks to those who can help me here :)

Double awesome!! Mine will have ghosts and a few other fading things including fading steps! Exiting! Thank you for this module, definitely will use it and put you in the credits, Lazarus. :)

Oh thank you thank you! That is brilliant! I will use your example. You worked hard to help me so here is a blue cup with a hot cuppa coffee or chocolate of whatever you like as a reward *passes a blue cuppa over to you - its hot!*. I am excited to try this out once I have finished drawing my phone. I think I will try for a nice background like a spiraly one of a couple of colours. Hopefully I can integrate the characters hand in to press the send button, would look interesting :). I have to go to work in 10 minutes which is a bit of a bugger when I could be working all day and night on the game lol but got to earn money! At the weekend after Thurs I will be trying out the idea you gave me and let you know how it goes and if any probs I will ask :). Enjoy your blue cuppa drink :D

You are tops Theeph!!! I am getting very excited! I am currently drawing the open part of the phone in photoshop and it's coming a long nicely, yep its a Nokia phone too!! ;). I wouldn't enter a nbr, but let character send to the person such as "Mum" as this character would have nbrs in her ph directory ;).

About this one:
QuoteAlso make a Label where the screen would be, and that will let you display text messages and so forth.

How will I do this one? and also why would it be a background for the gui? Forgive me for being so noob lol.

Yes I would like to actually type a message each time the character is to send a text. I like this part u mentioned
QuoteinputText field and press a send button
that would work well I am sure :) Look fwd to hearing more on this from you :):).

I have a question - I have looked thru the forums for this sort of function but could not really find any relating to the one I want. So here goes, I have a mobile phone and I want to use it from my inventory and have the phone really close up (maybe this would mean making a room just for this?) and interact with the phone - sending text messages and receiving them. Any idea on how I could achieve this? I am aware that maybe I will need to use 'hotspots' for each button on the phone and interactions within each.... Also I am hoping to make a puzzle of moving things into a particular place, a board game within the adventure game that the character has to complete to get to next point - would this be similar to the phone one? So once again, any ideas? I am such a nooob :P :D
#234
Thankies Theeph!! :):) I'll try this at the weekend when work ends for the week once again ahhhhhh looking fwd to that! I am going to ask another question but in a new thread because it doesnt relate to this thread's topic.
Cheers

I had been wondering about this part too - being new to this, I would like to know if this
Quoteif (button == BUTTON#){
gIconGUI.Visible = false;
gOptionsGUI.Visible = true;
}

BUTTON# meaning the actual button number of the GUI object.

includes the functions to make each part inside that GUI button work. If I have posted this in this thread, sorry about that - not sure if I should create a new thread on this or stay in this one but don't yell please if I have added this question in this thread. I just wonder how to make the save quit speed etc etc functions work within that button? Yes I know I have to design the box of those things, pull up and down handles (like levers lol). Just wondering. Good question by the way WackyWildCard! Look forward to your game coming out :).
#236
Hi Monkey,
YES!!! I like this idea because in my game I am going to need something like this to create an object - well the character will create the object sometime in the game. If this is the sort of thing you mean of this module, then I am all for it. But if not, pardon my mistake lol :P
#237
:P all solved! Thank you so much! I was jumping for joy to find my hard work wasn't ruined in the end! These art works take ages to do but it all comes from my passion. Seems we're all passionate about games and art in games, etc, on this forum :). Ok I will say this is solved. Thanks again  ;D
#238
ah thank you both of you. No Theeph, it is not a background, it is a character on a special background just for the talking view under the chosen style - Sierra style for whenever the character talks, the talk view box comes up and she is in front of a small background. I know the background for each room is differently done. Thanks for the help, I am going to try it now, here's hoping it works :)
#239
Ok thanks. I was using photoshop and when I imported the graphic to the sprite manager and used it in the game, parts of the background was transparent when really I had made it very very solid. I am not sure how I can set it to 32 bit in photoshop - if you know, that would be great. Thanks
#240
Hello I know this might be a silly question but I am desperate for the help. I created a really good high resolution pictiure of a close up view for talking view of my character and in ags it looks awful and downgraded! How do I fix this please so the original state is preserved in the game?

EDIT: sorry forgot to mention that I had the game set to 800 x 600 then put it down to 640 x 480 but still did not work. I am frustrated with this as I hate my art work getting ruined by some resolution problems
