Wow, I hadn't seen any of the new stuff since iteration 19 and chapter11studios.com. I was a bit shocked at first, I kinda liked the old one, but having read through this thread I'm warming up to the new version. I'd say in terms of color and lighting intergration loominous' edit is spot on. Posture is definitely better, face could use some work. It would look better I think if you made his face more like the old style; broader jaw(or shorter beard), hair back to brown, larger hat. Now he reminds me of the Irish farmer from Back to the Future III.

I feel sad, seeing as I haven't had a chance to play BS4: The Angel Of Death yet...
You're not missing out on much...

I recently started replaying BS1 and 2 again, for like the 10th time. I love those games. BS3 was a bit different, but still good. BS4 just kinda sucks.

Now that I'm working on my own game, I look at them much deeper. I know the story and all the locations by heart, so I'm more focused on technical things, like how the people are animated, what makes the background less static, how certain functions would work. It's good fun.

They remade BS1 for the GBA.
And almost every other system possible. :)

There are a few BS fangames being made, no real remakes.

There's Broken Sword: Lost Scenes, which is just a simple flash game using graphics from BS1.

GabArts from the forum is working on a BS game, not much is known about it yet.

And ofcourse there's Broken Sword 2.5, a very promising fangame. There's a demo out for that.

Critics' Lounge / Re: Inked Art: Marker advice

Marker overlap is a pain in the nads. I don't do a lot of shading like that -I do crosshatch or I use pencil-, but I usually had it when I marked in big black areas. I have one marker that does an absolutely fabulous job, but it's like all the moisture (apparently yellow) goes right through the paper, staining anything underneath.

These days, I almost exclusively color digitally. You should try it, since you're already scanning it in anyway. Draw the lineart, scan it, adjust the levels, copy the layer and set it to multiply, and you can color underneath the lineart.

I'm a total neat freak when it comes to my files, as you can see.

Great idea, and that first sprite looks good. Look forward to seeing more.

If you build in a small exploit, this will be the selling point for the PS3, let me tell you. It's what's keeping the PSP alive. Nice one Justine Kiding! ::)

But why stop there? Look at ScummVM, it's everywhere. We need total domination over every gaming platform!

The Lament For Strings sounds really good, and so does the untitled tune. It's good mood music. If you're interested, I've been looking around recently for some music for my game. I'll PM you with details.

I agree to an extent. A little perfectionism is good, but we also need the small okay games. If everyone was striving to make great games, there'd be even less to see around here, and we'd miss out on some great ideas that would have otherwise died off. You appreciate a great game more if you've had to make due with some mediocre ones first. But yeah, a little more effort wouldn't hurt in some cases.

I've been working on my first game for a few years now (leaving my OROW entry out of consideration), and I'm really starting to realise now at some point I have to make peace with what I have. When I think of something new, or a big improvement to something, I always say to myself "Ah well, I'll save it for the sequel. Can't give it away all at once."

Sarah Wayne Callies and Jennifer Morisson are really doing it for me these days.

Yep, I have the same boxset. Awesome movies, great set. Worth it alone for the Tom Selleck Indy audition video :P.

The only issue is that actually the software only translates the video without the audio.
Oh yes I forgot to mention that. Been a while since I used the wizard. After you've gone through the wizard be sure to tick stream type: system(video+audio) in the lower right corner of the main window before you hit Start.

I've always wondered why developers shy away from using a bad guy as a main character, like for instance the Germans during WW2, so I can appreciate this guy has the balls to finally tackle this angle, but I don't think he's using the right method. There's a fine line between parody and insultment. In this case those lines could be unclear to some people. Portraying a German soldier as a normal person would work out better I think, a more Brothers in Arms style. It was rumored Call of Duty would do it, but I've never seen it (in singleplayer at least). Surely it would be interesting., although ofcourse some people will still take offense. I think the generation that still harbors ill-will is afraid today's youth thinks too lightly about the subject. Ofcourse it was a terrible, terrible time, but one can't hate the Germans as a people forever for that.

General Discussion / Re: avi file in VCD?

The reason your video files seem enlarged when burned, is because VCDs are made from MPGs. If you input an avi and try to burn a VCD, it will first convert it to an MPG. So the best thing is to avoid that and use a program like TMPGenc.

There are a few sizes you can convert to: 320x240, 352x240 and 352x288, if you want the VCD to be standard compliant (and you want that). I use the KVCD profile 352x288 max 1150 kbps for movies. That should be a good quality/size tradeoff. Although that's PAL, I assume you'll need NTSC. I've uploaded the profiles here, just extract to the TMPGenc folder and they should show up in the wizard.

There are companies that do private catering, you can probably get these kind of buffets there. There is one a few blocks from my place, so I've gotten one from there a few times for parties. It's great, they bring it over, with heater plates and everything. Sounds like that would be what you're looking for.

I know what you mean, this problem arises when your monitor is set to a higher resolution than the game I think. I've found that going into the properties of the game exe and under the Compatibility tab checking screenresolution 640x480 fixes it. This also affects the setup file though.

The soldier and the background art are from the game Killzone. That being clarified I think it looks pretty nice, I like the red tinting. Perhaps the Killzone font could be a little bit bigger.

I did everything except the flowers, I don't even know how to start with that :( But thoroughly enjoying it!
Spoiler
The flowers look a bit dried out, don't they? Maybe you should water them. But water alone won't do it, they also need sunlight...

Look at the paint buckets under the easel. There's a stirring stick in one of them.

[EDIT]I just realised you told me about the coins, so you probably had it already(?). Did we just uncover a bug...

Nice, thanks! Finished it.

Quote from: Dreamless on Sat 13/01/2007 21:30:38How did you open the window on the right?
Spoiler
When you use it once, the handle breaks off, and your fingers dont fit. So you need to wedge it up with some sort of thin stick ;).

Spoiler
Then it gets stuck, so you need to grease it up. But the grease is hard. You need to melt it again. Dunk it in the pot on the stove and use the cup to take it out.
