You're getting somewhere. It's a bit too pure yellow I would say. Looks a bit more like normal daylight too as opposed to the first one. I personally liked that one more.

So I imagine there should be a little more darkness and contrast and glow in there. Kinda like...

You'll have to excuse me, I went a little over the top. It's not really your style but it might give you some ideas.

This made me think of a mod for Oblivion I installed recently:

Might be of some help aswell.

I see you guys went all out for a massive collaboration. Kudos. :)

I was hesitant to post, I know how it's kinda pointless in discussions like this, but every year it strikes me how many people fall for this. Don't get me wrong, I appreciate the effort, it's original every year, but you know...come on. I haven't been around thát long, but I've read CJ's infamous April 1st posts. Like the AGS shareware, remember that one?

Ah well I shall refrain from further judging until tomorrow.

General Discussion / Re: Star Force
Wed 22/03/2006 16:14:33
Yes I'm not exactly happy with Starforce either. I finished Broken Sword 3, and I deinstalled it. A while later I wanted to play again, but it wouldn't install anymore. I blamed it on Starforce when no other cause could be found, and emailed them for the remover thing, which was then not (clearly) listed on their site. Turned out it was actually a faulty registry entry, but still it introduced me to the inherent evil of this software.

When I saw this thread I thought it would be about the whole Starforce pimping warez issue that was going on recently.

Daemon tools uses ring 0 of the Starforce driver, aswell as several firewalls like Zonealarm. Games use ring 3. Apparently.

Is there any program to convert .avi or .mpeg to flc?
Fast Movie Processor (1.44), or indeed Smacker, although that's a bit less user-friendly.

The color of the font in the dialogue GUI is the same as the player character's talking color, as defined in the "characters' tab. You can change the font under the "Fonts" tab by importing a new (truetype) font over font 1 and 2.

Sweet, looks great. You've captured him well. Although the nakedness is kinda out-creeping -has Metal Gear Solid 2 flashback-[/size]

The show was cool for...I don't know, undefined reasons. I've only seen it a few times. :)

I was thinking the same thing just recently! E.G. for shoot-outs, you know, head shot, kneecaps, stuff like that  ;D

Didn't see that one coming...

Oh, and Chuck Norris reading from the Chuck Norris Facts Database is good for a laugh too.

I had this error before when I tried saving the game to slot 999 I believe. Not sure what was going on there.

If you use SetRestartPoint remember to put it in a quiet bit (aka no running scripts like cutscenes) otherwise it gets all borked up when you restart.

I get that feeling too when I draw something perspectivy like that, but you just need an objective eye. She looks pretty OK to me, not really warped or anything.

I have no idea what layering, filters or anything fancy mean or how they work.
I use MS paint, which is something I had began with because it is A). it is easy to use and B). Free.
If it's free you want, you could consider Paint.NET. Paint with some neat tricks but not as complicated as 'the big guys'.

And forgive me for being nitpicky, but it's cross-hatched.

OK, on to the crits:
I think your main problem is lighting. Lighting is very important for the mood of a scene. If you draw some shadows and tone the saturation down a bit I'm sure you'll be nearer to the foreboding effect you seek after. You really should slowly aquaint yourself with things like layers and filters. They can make your life so much easier.

i did the text as individual objects. The player clicks on one of them.
I think that was the main issue why Zooty was skeptical. So was I. I can understand how objects would work better though, that apprehension meter must take some scripting. You should consider making the font a bit smaller, it's kinda obscuring. Hope you finish this one, it sounds/looks good.

Looks great, very adventure-gameish. Keep it up!

I use that to some degree. Normal speech is displayed Lucasarts style, but for thoughts/narration I use
DisplaySpeechAt(5, 220, 310, CHARID, "STRING MESSAGE");
That creates a nice subtitle-like text. Not sure how you could script dialogs to do so aswell. Maybe on a GUI.

Maybe you should go for a more creature-like physique. Depends on what you want them to do ofcourse.

General Discussion / Re: How to make trailers?

I use Screen Movie Studio. There's no limitations and it will capture any active window you want. If you don't pay for a license you get a little logo at the top-left corner, but if you run your game in a window it'll fall over the top-bar, and you can just crop it out.

For actual DirectX games, Fraps is best.

Excellent game, well done! Great animations, and that last part really had me stumped for a bit.

Nice cliffhanger ;)

I end up doing stupid maintenance
I do that a lot too. But usually I conclude everything on my computer is important so I end up deleting 3 pictures or something.

I also like to make up games in actual games too. Like in Hitman Contracts I pretend I'm a guest in the hotel. And when I'm bored with that I see how many people I can shoot and get away with it. Chasing people around town (Thief 3) is fun too.

Or collecting guards...
