The Rumpus Room / Re: *Guess the Movie Title*

Hopefully, this will help. The last picture is quite similar to the movie poster. What really stuck with me after this film, is a scene in an elevator, but I haven't found any pictures of said scene.

I thought perhaps such a thread could be of use, like the opposite of the Gameseek thread.

Some AGS games are not added to the database, and may fly under people's radar. If you find something that other people may be interested in, why not post the link in this thread? This could be stuff hidden in plain sight in the AGS depository on archive.org, or it may be jam games, demos or smaller games that for some reason haven't ended up in the database on this site.

I'll go first: In the Adventure Jam 2021 on GameJolt, you can find the following AGS games not currently in the database:

Nadir is a great and moody short piece set in a submarine.

Long in the Tooth is a short demo with marvelous graphics and animation.

Coffin Valley is a western game.

All Demons must go to Hell is a game announcing itself as user-unfriendly, but it's quite fun to play.

I don't think Minifeg: The Search have been a pick of the month. It's a small to medium sized gem from 2014, where it didn't win its MAGS and may be overlooked because of it.

This was made in a month with animated Lego graphics and features time travel and all sorts of trouble to get back to the present day. I'd probably play it for the Lego alone, but there's also humour, devious puzzles that seem straightforward afterwards and a messed-up timeline spanning from prehistoric to the future, visiting seven (I think) time eras.

I played game number two in this series first, and really wish I had started with this one. The main strengths is the storytelling and the atmosphere. Graphics and music gave me a western feeling right away! For me, this is a western with fantasy elements, more than fantasy with a western setting.

Wendy is a well-written character, and I knew after playing the second chapter that I had to go back and play this one before embarking on the third. The tasks are easy (this is improved in the second chapter), and there's not much chance of getting stuck. The story have several twists, and that is one of the reasons I wish I had played this one first.  ;) I enjoyed the game. Recommended for those who can enjoy a game for the story without many puzzles.

Ah, goodie! I read the manga many years back because it was written by Kazuo Koike. Way, way over the top, but still entertaining, in its way. Saw the anime once, but I have never seen the live-action.

I'll have a think about another movie. If anyone is sitting ready, they may pose a question before me.  :)

Could it possibly a live-action adaptation of Crying Freeman?

Great guitar licks and funny pixelart, Andreas!

Nice homages to Surfing with the Alien and Packard Goose.  ;)

I can recommend Stephen King's nonfiction book Danse Macabre about the horror genre. It includes long lists of recommended books and movies, as well as in-depth analysis about tropes and selected works.

Heat in the firelands:
Spoiler
You need to locate every water source. After filling up, you can check how much is left by examining your inventory. (You drink automatically whenever you move to a new location.) Then it's a case of always returning to the water in time.

Edit: Or perhaps I'm mixing the desert and the firelands...

Edit II: You need to finish the other two dragons first, at least. Perhaps if you tell us what items you have, that will trigger our memory.

Spoiler
Thanks for trying to help. The canteen is used to survive in the desert, not the firelands.

I slew the first two dragons, made my way through the swamp, reached the firelands, had the great magi break open the door with help from the two dragon bones, and entered the firelands. After the great magi told me his plan, I was informed that I needed something to protect me from the heat. Whenever I travel to a different room in the firelands, I succumb to the heat, collapse, and die.

I currently have the sword, the canteen, the shield the sultan gave me, and the horn the sultan gave me. I also have the four spells the great magi gave me: the levitate, rabbit, fire, and rain spells.

I remember some ideas I had, but not which one was the solution... (laugh) I think the solution is to use a spell.

Perhaps
Spoiler
using levitate on the shield to make a hovering platform

or to

use the rain on the ground?

If both those are wrong, try to use the spells on every item in your inventory or every hotspot on the locations. However, if there is a puzzle in your current location, you probably need to solve that one first.

What a great game! While I also liked FALL, the improvements both technically and in how you tell the story, is impressive.

I liked:

* The map navigating system. Very tidy, except that I couldn't search for my cat right outside my door.
* The action sequences. Very fun, especially with autosave giving me another shot right away.
* The giant dead insect serving as a tourist attraction.  (laugh) (laugh) A great way to establish the continuity to FALL.
* The contrast between the cat videos and the outright horror. The main character became someone I cared about really fast.
Spoiler
I guess he couldn't pay his rent.

You're making your own insect world here, and I hope for more stories from it.

After finishing the game, my feelings are mixed. I agree that perhaps the game is a bit too long. It could have been divided into chapters to make it more managable for the players. I fear that some players will quit before reaching the Kitsune stage, for instance.

I also guess that the mix of minigames will put off some players and perhaps attract others. This forum is foremost point and click lovers, and maybe not so many word scramble fans.

On the technical side, I think the game would benefit from having the items appear all the same size in the inventory. The coal and the friendship token are so small that I had problems finding them on the inventory screen.

Some of the descriptions are actually well thought out and would look good if animated. I guess that is why you asked for help a couple of years back.

I don't have a problem with a game being religious in nature. If that's the contract with the player, then okay, this is the game. However, in this game, the Bible appears in the background and gives several screens of text when examined with a very clear missionary message. I don't feel this is integrated in the game in any way - none of the characters speak about their beliefs or their religious value system, so i felt this was a bit out of place. That you get long texts when you examine something isn't limited to this scene, however. On the final stages I would rather try every coloured ball than examining them to find out which was the right one to use, because examining them triggered an entire animal poem which the player had to click through line for line.  Here I think you either could make viewing the poem optional or show it all at once.

The game is varied with puzzles ranging from ridiculously easy to very challenging. Some of the puzzles are quite good, others didn't appeal to this player. I'm sure you have learnt a lot about game making in the process. But make your next game a bit shorter.  :-D

Talking about side-effects, I haven’t pooped since my jab.
I think that's an end effect.

Hints & Tips / Re: Essence of imagination

I think you must be referring to an older version of your game. The mouse has another use in this one, and the essence of home is available through something else.  :-D

EDIT: I stand corrected - there are multiple solutions to some of the puzzles, apparently.

Thanks! That was a hard puzzle, but not impossible. I don't know if I would have made that connection, though. It's more likely I would have tried all possible combinations.

I've played this a bit now. I thought it would be a quick playthrough, but no. The game is an odd mix of children-friendly fantasy about keeping imagination alive and minigames like memory, riddles, wordscramble or unscramble the poem. There are sequences of pont and click in between this, including a segment where you play as a kitsune who needs to help other animals. (My favourite part of the game so far.) The game is quite long. It may look like it was intended to end earlier, but then has had new missions added to it.

The graphics and poems are simple, but I think it's nice that the author is sticking to his vision and have finished this long-time project. Congratulations on the release!

Oh, and I've opened a help thread, as I'm stuck on a button pushing puzzle.  ???

Hints & Tips / Essence of imagination
Tue 10/08/2021 01:37:39
I'm stuck at the repressed dreams where there are buttons on the wall and stones on the floor beneath them. I passed the first room, but have no clue about the order of button pushes in the second. Am I supposed to brute force it?

Edit: This is while playing as a sea otter.
