I hope people have noticed that this game is rereleased now with more content. I see there's no new thread, so I wanted to give an extra heads up here. This isn't just a few extra locations - the game is now shockingly long. I've been playing extensively over several days now, and I'm impressed. It's at least tripled in size.

The game is funny, full of ridiculous puns and characters that party hard and talk dirty (well, at least some of them). It's not easy, but I'm having a great time.

EDIT: More than tripled. I saw my own comment on the first version suggesting 20-30 minutes of play. It's now a full length game.

Edit: The full game is at A Curious Pastime Expanded.
At A Curious Pastime you get the demo/short version.

Being a completionist (even if that's not a word!), I went ahead and played all the Slay the Dragon games. It's fun to see the development!

I agree with Shadow1000 in absolutely everything he says here. Good fun and lots to do. This makes the game quite long, even if the puzzles aren't all that difficult. Although I never would have made it through without saving! I also expected a couple of things that didn't happen:
Spoiler
Falling in love with the sultan's daughter and finding out the wizard had betrayed you.

And I think the game is all the better for it.

I realized that the Slay the Dragon III Unfinished link now takes me to the final version. And I know I'm probably going to be the only one who asks, but is this temporary version still available somewhere? (The completionist in me feels it is his duty to ask.)

I’ve stumbled on this woman Hazel O’Connor who apparently was quite famous in the 80’s but I can’t say I’d ever heard of her before.

She’s got a massive catalogue but I’m currently enjoying her debut album from 1980, Breaking Glass.

You're probably already aware that this is the soundtrack to a movie?

Now I think I have done everything with Dirk as well. It wasn't really difficult, but I had missed the location where I could use the bands. Turns out I
Spoiler
probably never had gone out the window with Dirk. I was sure he, too, went sliding down the tree.

How he got his promotion was funny. Afterwards I could walk around in the new locations where nothing is implemented fully yet. I went back to the cafeteria and crashed the game when I talked to the woman who wouldn't talk to me because she was talking to Ben. I think her character tried to face Ben, but he was in another room.

Feel free to ask for more specific feedback if needed. (Here or in PM.) I appreciate your efforts so far. Nice humour! (nod)

I guess I'm at the "end" for Cut.
Spoiler
I've got the job, doing radio promo. (laugh) The organizer tells me to put the chopped off vegetable bits on the cutting board, but I cannot do that. I actually thought the chef's phone was out of power for some reason.

Stuck with Dirk. I can't find a use for the shreds.
Spoiler
I think I'm supposed to use them with the squirrel, because of the soft book's story. Can't remember if Sally told me Sloane lives in 2C or not. And there may or may not be something I can do about Ryan.

I guess the heap of clothes, locked door in the cellar, locked door on the 4th floor, fuses in the basement, the entire 5th floor (among other things) are not implemented yet?

The long puzzle getting Cut a job is quite good! Many steps towards a goal - I like it.

I do not like the colour of Ben's speech/the numbers pressed on the tablet. When played in a light environment, it's very hard to read the dark brown against that background.

Perhaps you can hint about what puzzles/tasks are solvable so far? (Without giving away the solutions?)

Dirk is looking for his friend Sloane. (I'm afraid the game doesn't coax the player enough toward this narrative.) Where is Sloane's room? Where is/are the entrance/s?

I have to agree. This had left my mind, even though it _is_ mentioned. I even think I have been told where his room is, without registering it as very important.

As for Cut,
Spoiler
he needs people to see his ad. When will people come to see it? Can he (or Dirk) help initiate their arrival?

Aha! Then I think  I will need to
Spoiler
find a way to pass objects from Cut to Dirk. (I found the other way.) Then Dirk will have a means to tell the chef it's time to open the cafeteria.

Thanks so much for your perseverance so far. Your playing and comments give me plenty to think about regarding my puzzle designs.

What I don't know, is whether I can paint myself into a corner. I guess I may hit dead ends if I
Spoiler
give back the chef's phone prematurely, or fill the bucket with shreds before picking up the rubber bands?

I wondered about the organizer app. I turned it off after the first room. Was I supposed to leave it on?

I think it's actually 5/4 time - I've always loved riding the extra beat in that signature.

Yep, I count five, as well. (Had to check it out!)
#1529
Well, the jam has ended, but I think I'll play them all, just the same.

I tried Gynoid. This game is unfinished. The dirty look of the building was nice, but it was difficult to see objects. There wasn't much to do, either, though the story seems interesting (if generic) and the atmosphere is good. I'm not really a fan of first person perspective in an adventure games, but that isn't the developer's fault. I found some objects, mostly newspapers and books that gave some backstory, but nothing I could use. (Unless I used the keys automatically.) If there are more locations available than the first house, I failed to find them.

As it is, it's an atmospheric demo of a first person cyberpunkish adventure.

I had to restart my first go because I couldn't get out of the phone GUI. Other than that, I think this one is shaping up nicely. It will be interesting to follow this project.

I played until Cut had
Spoiler
got the ad for himself and made it public for all to see

and the guy in the bathrobe had
Spoiler
picked up and desposed of all visible rubber bands and replaced them with shreds.

I haven't
Spoiler
found a use for the piece of wood or the cook's phone, or done anything about the grate in the kitchen.

Have I done everything available in the demo?

It's always fun with two playable characters. These seem to have different goals, which is unusual. And it's cool to see the pandemic included as a background plot, because why not. There's quite a lot of locations and probably the game will feature more actions - I see a laundry subplot brewing.  (laugh) Best of luck with your game!

Yeah, I love the character swap. I just don't think the other guys would have been confused by it if this was the dynamic from the start. But it's great the way it is. You could add a caption with "Present time" or "Three days ago" if you want to make it easier, but I don't think it's too hard like it is.

The code puzzle: I would have liked the interface to automatically turn on CAPS or simply accept the correct letters regardless of capitalization. I would also have liked the GUI to show how many letters were in which word to avoid the question of spaces or not, or the sequence of the words. I guess the last bit is harder to code, and none of them are strictly necessary. I just think that the real puzzle is
Spoiler
to be able to read the word in the mirror cabinet correctly.

And the rest is dressing and shouldn't be difficult.

I hope you manage to include character swap and time jumps in the following chapters, too. Don't be frustrated by the critique, the game is already very good, and we certainly want more.  (nod)

I've read through the other posts in the thread(s) now. I would guess that the confusion in chapter two for some players may be because chapter one uses a traditional dynamic. I was not confused, because
Spoiler
Lucas asks a question and we then cut to Mia talking to a man we know is now dead. Obviously this was in the past. However, it took me a while before I dared go into the street and leave the conversation, and even longer to discover that I could interchange items between the characters. Being a huge DOTT fan helps!

I didn't like the code puzzle in the secret room.
Spoiler
I knew the latin phrase, so I immediately knew what to do. However, the mirrored phrase is spelled wrong: "ACTAL" should be "ATCAL". So I tried it with or without spelling error, with and without capitals, with and without spaces and in all combinations of the words, as latin doesn't have a set sequence in a sentence. As you can guess, I did the wrong things first.

AGS Games in Production / Re: Goblin's Quest

Looks funny! I guess the greedy goblin will need a huge inventory. (laugh)

The download link doesn't seem to work...says that I need to ask for access. (So I did.)

I'm a bit late to the party, but I could see from the sheer volume of posts that this had to be something special. And it is.

That was a really great game! The first chapter would be a long demo on its own, and the second chapter is a quite long game in its own right.

I really liked the storytelling in the second chapter, where I could alternate between the characters and timelines, in Day of the Tentacle style. Lots to do and very good puzzles. The tone is humorous throughout, more so in the second chapter than in the first. (Possibly because I liked the female protagonist better.) It's fun to revisit the same locations and get different repsonses with the two main characters. It's also a nice touch to have different characters who tell you what to do with slightly different agendas.

Lots of dialogue and dialogue puzzles. I like that. My favourites was the worker dialogues. I think that some of the more descriptive dialogues should be available for rereading, like now, but the dialogues that trigger actions ought to occur only once. At least the action ought to occur only once.

I encountered one game-breaking bug, when I was caught in the secret room with the same message repeating when I tried to exit without anything. And also when the reporter talks to the scientist after he has changed his position, she walks to her first dialogue position to talk, even though the scientist is no longer standing there. The key card was possible to take more than once (getting two in my inventories).

Yeah, maybe having to find a whole bunch of different books and writings is not the most interesting thing to do... will surely look into that  :-D

Please don't change that. The plot is crazy, but makes the time switching work. (As far as the story has progressed.) I think finding the books and research works very well. Besides, it doesn't matter very much what the McGuffin/treasure is in such a story. Maltese falcon, magic ring, enchanted sword, diamond or research paper.  (nod)

All in all, a very good effort. I look forward to seeing more of this story.

In Norway it's public vaccination only. The doses are distributed geographically and each county/municipality get a number of doses when available calculated from population and some other factors. There's been some public discussion about whether one ought to prioritize areas with a higher infection rate or not. In the municipality, it's going by age, except for risk groups or people with vital jobs, like health workers.

The health workers have been phoning people who's up for a jab, making appointments, but now when it's getting too many to do that, it's done digitally. I got a text message when it was opened up for my age group, and I then could order an appointment online.

We also had a queue sitting in chairs, like Cassiebsg described, except that we had a nurse stationed who told us to move to the chairs next to the vaccination booths. I would hazard a guess that my age group are more likely to interpret "to meet on time" to be there at the time given, while the generation before us would interpret it like "be there a long time before it's your turn".  (laugh)

I got my first shot yesterday and feel fine. Very tidy and well-organized, I must say.

Good game as usual, Slasher. The minigames were a fun addition.

I hope the others manage to finish, too.  (nod)

Yes, I did wonder why it says "commercial" because I gave away the link of the demo. I can change the category if that is doable. One more thing: please understand that I am new here and this was my first game post. Thanks.

I think you by accident have ticked the box that says: "Commercial: This allows you to specify a store and / or demo link for your game".

And welcome. Not a bad effort as a first game.

Thanks for your comments. I do respect it.The things is, this game was made to understand the logic of AGS and to have fun with it (and I made it by myself). There might be some issues with the puzzles yes. Sorry if the game is a little difficult to play but that's the nature of adventure game right?

:-D

If I'm not mistaken, you have pressed some button by accident, marking the game as a commercial game in the database, while this is more of a hobby project for you. I think our comments are based on the misunderstanding that you're making a product made for sale. I also guess we _are_ your betatesters.  (nod)

Great that you made and published a game! There is some room for improvement, sure, but I'm also sure you know a lot more now than when you started. And I think your art is very good. If you ever make a second chapter in the story, I'll play it.  ;)
