Welcome to Pun City! I played this little game today and enjoyed the humour when I examined everything in the house. I mean, "These are not the steps I need to take right now" when I tried to move a ladder.  (laugh)

I haven't tried 3D printing before, but there were plenty of hints (more like instructions, really) to complete the tasks in the game. I guess from the feedback when I finished that it is possible to complete the game while doing something wrong. It's nice to see a game about everyday life and tasks once in a while.

1) Imho the title is horrible, very hard to remember, much harder to abbreviate, imho the title needed to be maybe something else or "Four Travelers".
What, don't you like dual names?  (laugh)

QuoteOverall, I think a solid 9/10 if we're being harsh, 10/10 if we're being fair.
Agreed!

Nice game. Is there only one path for each character or can they do things differently?
The latter â€" at least for dialogue choices â€" and imho adds much to immersion.

I'd recommend to at least play the first chapter two times. The detail level is so great that if you change the mood of the character, the descriptions change, as well.

That's brilliant! Thanks for the list of allusions. I was sure there was a Rammstein reference in there as well, but I may be mistaken.

I saw it, and now I can't unsee it: I looked at the Recent Games list and read "If On A Winter's Night, Four Travelers Fool Around".  (laugh)

The AGS awards for 2021 is reported to be an exciting free-for-all in the categories Best Short Game, Best Voice Work, Best Demo and Best Non-Adventure Game.

I'm honoured to have had the opportunity to playtest and give feedback on this piece of art. Congratulations again on the release! I hope the game gets the audience it deserves, despite tackling the darker corners of our minds.

A quick question: It says you cannot vote for your own game. What constitutes "my own game"? Can you vote for a game if you have had a peripheral role, like betatester, translator, proofreader? Voice actor?

(do you know the metal girls on the save/load screen ?)

I'm afraid not. But I'm ready to be enlightened.

These games are absolutely crazy with all those crossovers. It's hilarious, and I hope you never stop making them.  ;-D

I played it, and love the humour. Nice, good-looking, easy and funny. In German only so far. I agree that the parrot is the funniest part, even though I laughed at the balcony, too.  (laugh)

Spoiler
If I remember correctly, I already took an item from the fridge but I can't remember what it was.
Spoiler
Glowing potato. You need it to get to the next set of locations.

QuoteI am assuming that your reference to the cellar of the cafe is where the band is? If so, I was there and got the tape.
Spoiler
Yes, that's it.
[close]

QuoteIt sounds like I've pretty much done everything that's required to complete the game.
From what you're saying, I think there is a set of locations you haven't been to yet - "Japan".
QuoteSo can someone tell me how to play the record and tape.
Spoiler
The tape(s) can be played at the market. You would have seen that if you had been there, it's quite straightforward. The records can be played in a room nearby the fountain early on. Have you found all exits from that scene?

QuoteI guess there's not much to do at this point. Is there a way to get a "game over" screen, or credits or anything indicating that you're done?
Spoiler
Yes, there is!

Quoteedited to say that I actually forgot about the heavy door, but I see in your post that you don't need to open it. This game seems to have a lot of things to do that in reality can't be done?
I don't know if that can be opened or not. But yes, it's either full of Easter eggs or full of red herrings. Herrings and eggs, anyone?  (laugh)

My assessment of the game is very similar to heltonjon.

I am pretty stuck but I don't know what to ask because unlike most games, I don't really see any puzzles or goals or things to do other than walk around very slowly.

I'll state where I'm at and hopefully people who have progressed can lend a hand:

Spoiler
I got to the tower. This seems to be the extent of the area reachable by boat.
Spoiler
There is one more house to the right of the tower.

There is a puzzle here with an ancient scripture that I am guessing tells you how to push buttons and switches on the panel but I don't see any connection between the scripture and anything on the panel.
Spoiler
I think this machine is just for fun, to make music, and that there is no puzzle. I've asked about it above.

My inventory is Apple, oar, tape, record. I haven't found a way to play the tape or record.
Spoiler
There is a way to play the tape and record, but I don't think they are necessary for completing the game. I like to think of the hidden music as points, though.  ;)

I don't know if I'm supposed to be able to enter the cabin right after you get out of the boat.
Spoiler
You can't.

I don't know if there's anything to do in the cafe
Spoiler
There is, in the cellar. But I don't think it's necessary to complete the game.

, ghost house (other than spill the brandy and speak to a ghost), grocery store.
Spoiler
You need one object from the fridge.

So, any info that I might be missing that will help me progress would be appreciated!

While I think many actions I've done is not strictly necessary to complete the game, there may be some hidden triggers I don't know about.

EDIT: I completed the game. Would still like to know the answer to the questions below, in case there is more to discover.  :)

I've run out of ideas of what to do next. It would be nice to know where there is an actual puzzle, so here goes:

Is the music generator mentioned in the game's release thread the machine in the desert tower, and does it indeed have no bearing on the game?

Is it important if I leave the music on or if I take the recordings with me? Does it have any impact on the game?

Is it possible to do something about the big yellow ball stuck in a hole in the wall? I suspect
Spoiler
that it is connected to the yellow orb that is a teleport to "Japan".

In the observatory:
Spoiler
I've put on the VHS. Is there more to do here? The descriptions may or may not indicate that I should look for an I/O device of some kind. The heavy vault door and the anti-grav statue also looks like there is a puzzle there. Unfortunately, the only other object described as "heavy", is
Spoiler
the hamburger in the fridge, and I can't take it. Or can I, somehow?

Is the Brandy collectable, or a red herring?

Is there a puzzle to solve in the kitchen, or is it made just for fun?

Is it possible to interact with the ghost hiding behind a tree?

I've played this a bit yesterday and today, and now I don't really have any idea what I'm supposed to do. Maybe I'll start a help thread after writing some feedback here.

For a first game, this is quite good. It's HUGE with loads of locations, quite a few characters and objects. There's a lot to do. The graphics are diverse and nice - I like the different styles you're experimenting with. I guess a dreamworld is about the only way to incorporate all these different pictures. And the music is varied - I liked a lot of the tunes. Some were grating, but I suspect that's partly on purpose.

The strength of the game is also its weakness. At times, the mileau feels like one big maze. There are lots of walking, and retracing one's steps gets tedious fast. I agree that the walking pace could be speeded up. The maze-ness of the whole world or worlds makes it difficult to remember how to get from one location to another, and especially when making a "jump" with no obvious way back, this can be a bit daunting. But sure, finding your way is part of the puzzle.

I've found two bugs: After making the first "jump" by
Spoiler
looking at the apple
[close]
, I did the same thing again. I was transported to the same location, and the music started again, but without silencing the already playing music. This meant that there were two versions of the same tune playing, one slightly ahead of the other. This didn't break the game, but it wasn't nice either. It stopped when I reached a location with a new tune.

The other bug was in the ghost house:
Spoiler
After trying to take the brandy with the ethereal bottle, I tried to speak to the ghost upstairs, and the game gave an error message and ended prematurely. Some sort of script error, but I don't recall exactly.

My progress:
Spoiler
I've found and played the ghostly VHS, two cassette tapes and two LPs. I've found the mysterious music machine in the tower in the desert, that from your description doesn't play any part in the progress in the game. Last thing I did was buy pink grapes. I had no way back except by appling.

I think I will start a help thread, because I'm a bit out of ideas at this point.

Congratulations on realeasing the game!

Sure, I'm up for testing.  (nod)

I need to hear Metalligator right now1  (laugh) And is that the soon-to-be-coming giant sausage I spy on the construction yard? This looks really funny. ;-D

I like the use of colour in the screenshots. Quite distinct. Looking forward to another bug-fest from you!

Is there any connection to the story from FALL? Or do you just like insectile monsters?

After seeing the award nominations, I feel I have to suggest an overlooked title for one of the upcoming months.

Suggestion:

Money Mansion

So you liked Maniac Mansion and Day of the Tentacle? Want to play more with the heroes from those games? Sorry, this one is about the bad guys! In a wonderful mash-up of Disney's Uncle Scrooge and MM, try to get ahold of a million bucks to keep the Mansion. You play as Dr. Fred, Edna and Ed, who each have their own weaknesses and (lack of) abilities. Enjoy bizarre humour and solve challenging puzzles in your quest to take that money! Flirt with a statue! Beat the security system! Watch TV! Oh, just play the game, won’t you?

While it's no surprise that SLEUTH wins the voice category, I had at least hoped that Detective Boiled-Hard would get a nomination. It's kind of the opposite of SLEUTH's solution, with one guy doing all the voices. And it's hilarious.  (laugh)
