Hints & Tips / Re: The Shame of the Pack

Quote from: Inkoddi on Sun 29/12/2024 23:42:40Very nice little game! I'm so totally stuck that I've decided to come out of many years of hiding just to ask for help.
The yellow rubber gloves, how do I get them?
Spoiler
I have no idea how to get the coyote lady to let me have the gloves, she just says she wants Wolfie back. There is also a dialog option with the kid that says "loud speculation etc..." but Frank won't do it until he's sure he's gotten everything out of her. Is there some item I've missed that I need to show her?

Have you
Spoiler
been told that she also has a safe keeping business? She has something that belongs to Wolfie.

Can't get it? You need
Spoiler
a ticket stub. It's at Wolfie's place.

Can't find it?
Spoiler
It's the small piece of paper in the chair where the fox used to sit.

Hope that helps!

Checking out Urgurgurg's other games (see the post above), there's at least one more AGS game:  Cheetahs are meant to be fast. And while the game still fights the good fight of fat people cheetahs, I must say that I heartily recommend this. It's a great parody of edutainment titles, and boy, does the fourth wall crack!

Back in December 2015, the theme for MAGS was Depleted. One of the participants is not in the database, namely Funkpanzer's Outta' Juice!. This is a sort of action game, where the player has to keep spinners, and then plants, watered (and fertilized). It works well, except that you have to start from scratch every time, and the two first levels are easy, while the third is hard. So having to replay the two first levels gets old quick.

Funkpanzer has a couple more games not in the database:

Nightwork, made for December 2016 MAGS, with the theme Pickpocketing. This game had me running around picking pockets while trying to avoid raising suspicion. Fun and hectic, but I had trouble figuring out the controls, and also by accident fell victim of a game-breaking bug. (But I will get back to it, there was still lots to try out.)

And also The Farm, made for MAGS January 2016, with the cheery topic Black Death. Unfortunately, this links to a corrupt zip file at the archive. It got rave reviews in the MAGS thread, so I hope someone still has this.

Quote from: eri0o on Thu 26/12/2024 15:52:13I haven't played and found it by accident, plus it seems it's some niche NSFW thing

https://urgurgurg.itch.io/beach-belly-bloodbath
I played it. I read about the other entries, and it indeed looks like a fetish thing about big bellies, but while I guess all the other games can be safely disregarded (unless this is right up your alley), this game actually was very good! Basically, the plot is that the new ZomDogs joint is selling lots of hot dogs at the same time someone has broken into the cemetery. The player takes control of three characters and can switch at will. They have to investigate the case, and given their different personalities, the other characters will respond differently to them. The writing is hilarious (though verbose), the humour largely character driven, the animation and graphics are nicely done, including a zoom in/zoom out effect that's very cool. The story isn't finished, and the game sets the stage for a sequel, and I'm aboard. The fetish thing is touched upon in a humorous way, but this game is far from NSFW, unless cartoon zombies count.

The Dictator?

Both the old and the updated version can be downloaded from here. I played them a few months ago and did not encounter any problem.

After a few months' hiatus, this month I found the natural choice was to play Santa and the Orphanage, made for December MAG(S) 2018.

In this one, Slasher puts us in the shoes of Santa himself. The grinches are trying to mess up the Christmas celebration at the orphanage by stealing or destroying the gifts and Santa's sleigh. So, we have to walk around and look for stuff, or stuffing, in the case of the teddy bear.

I enjoyed playing this. It's not very difficult, but the graphics are nice, and the music suitably festive. The game is a kind of a treasure hunt with a couple of puzzles thrown in. It's quite a feel-good game, and one I can easily recommend for ten minutes or so of relaxing Christmas fun. The only time I was not relaxed, was a surprising action scene near the ending.
Spoiler
The grinches throw presents down from above, and Santa is supposed to catch them. This went way too fast for me, so I guess my pc is too powerful.

@eri0o 's game Don't give up the cat also features fireflies. He's made his source code available on github, in case you are interested. (I haven't compared his code to the other suggestions already made in this thread, so this suggestion may very well be redundant.)

Quote from: Sakkeus on Fri 20/12/2024 16:54:17This recommendation is to be taken with a (fist sized) grain of salt  ;)
That's why I only recommended it for those very special four selected people.  :-D

Quote from: Sakkeus on Thu 21/11/2024 16:47:13DISCLAIMER: Storywise The Shame of the Pack is somewhat of a sequel to my first  game (from 2006) Big Bad Wolf and the Three little Pigs, but this game takes heavy 'artistic liberties' on the original story. I don't recommend playing the first part, and frankly, it is not necessary. My first game was made when I was a 16 year old teenager with stupid and 'edgy' views of what is fun and 'cool', The Shame of the Pack doesn't aim to take itself too seriously, but by no means is it a 'joke game'.
@Rik Vargard @Shadow1000 @lanchong @splat44
I'd like to say that the game 16-year old Sakkeus made actually is well worth playing. True, there are some "edgy" humour, but there are also some quite cool puzzles. I have no doubt this one is better (I hope to have the time to play it during the holidays), but despite what the author says and the one cup panel rating, I think there are some qualities to the first game. (But save often, because if I recall correctly, there are some bugs that make the game crash, too.)

I'm sure there will be, although sporadic.

I fixed the link on the database entry page for III Spy. It now links to the archive, which is generally a good place to look for older games. The RON site also holds the games, often in multiple versions.

The Gun with the Naked Man?  8-)

Here are my thoughts this month.

GillPartyBus by jwalt:
Spoiler
Funny, and also nice use of the rendered graphics. There's not much interaction, though I liked what there was. (But I miss Josh and Davy!)

Bad to the Coral by Rootbound:
Spoiler
I think this is a great non-adventure game with very good replayability on hard mode. Slow mode is too easy. Of course, it's a limited game genre, but I was impressed by how good it delivers. Possibly a contender against CaptainD for the non-adventure AGS award this year?

Botos do Diabo by Babar and jfrisby:
Spoiler
Very atmospheric and plenty of WTF moments. I liked this one a lot, being a horror fan and all. However, the game is on tracks with little branching. In a sense, this one and GillPartyBus are similar in that regard. Both games involve going forward and dealing with what appears on the player's way.

My vote:
Spoiler
Rootbound. This was a very hard decision. I think I've voted for Babar and jfrisby every time so far in MAGS, and voting for something other than an adventure is not something I would normally do. But I admire Rootbound's little action game, as it proves the versatility of AGS.

The AdventureX Game Jam finished Nov 30th, with some AGS-ers participating. The entries can be found here. (Wheee! Free games!)

The theme for this jam was "three rules". As this is an unranked jam, there are no winners, or perhaps rather all are winners. I'll probably play some of the 17 entries, at least the AGS ones, and comment on them here. If others want to play and comment, too, that's even better.

Some other ideas like more deaths (there's one in there!.. which maybe doesnt make sense depending on your interpretation of the game..)

Well...
Spoiler
If Hell is repetition, and you have to try again after you die, then perhaps. But you're right, I didn't die. I guess the dolphin can get you, and possibly sinking the raft, as well.

Well, that was creepy!  8-0  I liked it, and I felt it was like the fever dream you announce it as.

Spoiler
The game is sort of on tracks, and it feels unavoidable to play out like intended. I had the feeling that none of it was real, and perhaps even the river might be Styx. Still, the evil dolphin (Flipper flipped!) and the baby in a basket (like Moses!) were great, and both gave me the full WTF moment. I guess the story in this game may be interpreted any number of ways.

So - good game! Congratulations on making it!

Oooohhh! Looking good!  (nod)

Quote from: RootBound on Sat 30/11/2024 13:10:33@eri0o this is awesome! I was planning to release a web version of my current game but wanted to find a way to test it without having to upload it to itch yet. This is working perfectly so far.
There's also the option to upload it to itch, but not available for the public. You may then issue keys for testers other than yourself, if needed.

This may be a reply to me, as I asked LimpingFish a question the other day via PM. I also asked Cat and Arj0n stuff through PM, and replies came back without problems, so if Fish is trying to PM me, I don't think the problem is at my end.

This looks great! Congratulations on the release, and welcome to the forums, too!  ;-D

Don't forget to add your game to the database! No extra upload, simply link it to your itch page.
