If you go to the games page and select The Last 100 Comments, you'd get an overview of what people have been saying, mostly about the newest games. You could also click on All Games List to see the games released this year and their ratings. Unfortunately, they need five players to rate them to get a counting rating, and most games don't get that for a long time.

You could also go to the Completed Games Announcement thread to see the feedback the newest releases have got there.

This jam ended some time ago, and as I suspected from the comments other people left, Dumbfellas by Duck of Wood won. I postponed playing this because of the reported long playing time that didn't fit my schedule. But maybe I can cram it in soon.  ;) Second place went to Gugames with Death of Fo-Gu (which was great), and third to The Tensor by Aruma Studios. I haven't played that, but rumors are our own Postmodern Adventures recommends it. Also in split third: The Path to Enlightenment, which I realize that I have mixed up with another game. I thought I had played it, but looking at the screen shots, nope, I have not. (It was the somewhat similar theme of @RootBound's My Siblings, the Stones that had me fooled that I was already enlightened.)

I did manage to play the game that ended up last: Saul relative has a time travel adventure. In my opinion, it wasn't the worst of the games, but I understand why it scored so poorly, as the graphics are very basic, filling only a small portion of the screen, the text flew by much too fast, and there were no sound fx or music. However, there was some small enjoyment in the humour of mistaken identity, and some fairly easy puzzles. The ending didn't trigger because of a bug they didn't manage to fix before the deadline.

I'll probably try to play the remaining games.  :-D

That's an excellent abuse of the adventure game engine!  :-D I got 1113 on fast mode. If I were to suggest something, it would be to split the high score table in two, one for fast and one for slow mode. Other than that - great game. It had me going from "I have this SO under control" to "Whoa! Wrong net! Crisis!" and back within short time.

Congratulations on the release! I'll make sure to play this game, too. It will be fun to revisit this world once again.  (nod)

The database seems to be up and running, so perhaps try to add it without anything else than the download link, then if that works, add more stuff and see where it fails. There's been some trouble with uploading images or embedding youtube videos.

So, I found all 4. I assume that the shape of the window corresponds to the shape of the button. This only holds true for the triangle, though. None of the other ones correspond to any of the button shapes.

Quote from: jwalt on Sat 09/11/2024 17:57:40It should now be the complete game, or as complete as it may ever be.
Hey, this was really funny! Still mostly a cartoon, but entertaining? Absolutely!

Good game! Even the trick to save time by not doing walkcycles ends up being a universal pun.  ;)
The world building and character banter is entertaining and tongue-in-cheek funny, even though the problems they face are serious enough. Once again, I'll praise the piano playing that sets the mood throughout. Along with limited palette graphics, that's become somewhat of a hallmark for your games, giving familiarity even though the plots vary greatly.

Spoiler
I really liked the clues left behind, like the writings on the wall. They hint of a larger story, and lets the player fill in the blanks. I wonder if the stuffed head and other items are there just for decoration, or if they belong to a puzzle not appearing in the game?

Like Cat, I discovered the coins and the beat before the need for them arose. If I had to nitpick about something, it would have to be that. Then again, it could be explained away by deja vu, given the cycle of events.

The best puzzle (which I probably should post in the almost forgotten puzzle thread) has to be the star/button puzzle. It requires spotting a pattern, includes other actions and multiple locations, both players being active and is almost impossible to brute force.

The unexplained bits: How and/or why could the museum people (?) make the puzzle? The light from the stars would have to travel for thousands of years before appearing in the correct windows.  ???
That's...probably best not to think too deeply of. And what happens now that the Sphinx resets time without a new liver? Is he healed? Is the cycle truly reset? With the captain still in space, can time be saved the next time? Uh-uh!  8-0

Thanks for a game that was fun and challenging to play!

Quote from: rattusrattus on Wed 13/11/2024 19:25:39Thank you. I just felt embarrassed for announcing my game when relatively it took much less effort and is of lower quality than most projects posted on this board. I did not realize this before posting. I will keep creating but I won't announce it here next time lol. Sorry.
On the contrary, please do announce it. We have thousands of games in our database. They vary considerably in size, scope, style and quality. And while we celebrate the gems, we also want to include all who create. Your game isn't bad, it's just short. And it shows some talent, which I hope you can use on longer projects in the future.

I played it. I thought it was pretty nice, especially for a school project. If I were your teacher I'd probably ask for sources, and that's common outside of school, too. Like, where did you get your sounds, music, game engine. So I'd have tagged on a credits page at the end, or as an option to choose from the start screen.

You use sound nicely to create atmosphere and emotion. The switching between text screens and interactivity gives a sort of documentary feeling, and I also liked that you have added a couple of things the player can actually do.
Spoiler
Dog, coins.

There's no need to be embarrassed about this.

We welcome all games, big or small, bad or good, as long as they are made with AGS. We even want them in our Database.

As for the images, you need to post an url inside the img brackets, linking to a webpage that hosts such pictures. Until recently, imgur was a good choice for this, but I'm not sure if it still is.

Some feedback for @Perpetuall (Patience is a virtue):
Spoiler
I played your game several times, and I managed to beat the demon. Yet, I didn't like the gameplay. Here's why, and some suggestions.

The biggest problem: Typing something is not really fun. Speaking for myself, I don't know Bible verses by heart in English, much less from a medieval version of the text. I get that this one holds a special place in the heart for some people with English as their native tongue, for some reason, but not so for an international audience. (I'm Norwegian, for the record.)

So what did I do? I had the text beside me, and it became a typing game with a time limit. Could I type fast enough and accurate enough? This is old English, and it has to be exact to count.

Any gamer will try to find the best way to beat a game. The shortest verse in the Bible is "Jesus wept", so the typical gamer would type that one over and over again - if that worked. Not so here, the player needed to find verses about patience. (I'm happy I only had to search the Psalms!) I found the shortest one and repeated it until I won. I barely had time to look at the graphics, which is unfortunate, as they were pretty good.

Okay, how could this be made more fun to play, while still being a game about Christianity? I would advice to drop the entire typing approach. It's not fun, and it caters to someone who already know the Bible by heart. I guess that's not the ideal audience.

I'd rather present the player with several Bible verses and let the player choose by clicking on the one that is best in the given situation. This would make the player read the verses, and also contemplate what they really mean. If different demons would be defeated by different virtues presented in Bible verses, I think that could work out. A player could play by clicking, it would reward reading more deeply, and you could play it without being familiar with the Bible passages from earlier experience. Whether that would be fun, would be up to other aspects of the game, of course, but I believe it would be more entertaining than typing accurately. And I think it could "Preach without being preachy", if you know what I mean.

This is meant as constructive criticism and not as a personal attack, and I hope it doesn't come off as such. You must have worked hard to include all that text, and I respect that, but I think you ought to rethink your approach before you code the entire Bible in this way.

This looks like a promising project! I feel an urge to play your first game while waiting for this one.  ;) While no big rpg fan, I have a thing for westerns, and this made my trigger finger itch.

I'm in a hurry at the moment, but here are some quick thoughts:

Hour Al (by jwalt):
Spoiler
Funny, as usual. I like the 3D renderings and the story is fitting for the Alien theme. It's mostly an animation, though, not all that many game elements.

The Sphinx of Time (by Babar and jfrisby):

This is the most complete game this month, with puzzles and story, music and all in place. It got my vote. I will post a more detailed feedback in the game's own thread. when I get the time.

Chupacabra Crunch (by VampireWombat):
Spoiler
I'm so glad you finished it! Even though this is sort of a training game for you to get your chops back, I bet it feels good to finish and get something out there. Hope to see more from you soon.

MvM Demo: Patience is a Virtue (by Perpetuall):
Spoiler
I managed to both lose and defeat the demon, but most of my games either froze or I thought they did. Now, you deserve some praise for making this game the way you wanted it, but it didn't work for me. You deserve some more thorough (hopefully constructive) feedback, and I will post it when I get the time. For now: I liked the graphics, a bit mixed about the music, and didn't like the gameplay.
