Nice! Congratulations on the release, and don't forget to add it to the database.  (nod)

I'll be giving it a go shortly.

EDIT: Game added!  :)

You need to add some more things to this, like code for actually opening the door, but one error I can spot right away, is that you need to use double equals when checking a variable:

Code: ags
if (hDoor1.Enabled == false)

So: single equals sign when setting or changing the variable's value, double equals when comparing.

From the online scripting tutorial:

QuoteChecking variables

Obviously we need a way to find out what value our variable contains, otherwise it's useless. We do this using conditional statements, called if statements. An if statement looks like this:
Code: ags
  if (myCounter == 5)
   {
     myCounter = 0;
   }

what this means is that if myCounter contains the value 5, then the script inside the { } brackets will be run (which in this case changes the value of myCounter to zero).
If myCounter does not equal 5, the script inside the brackets is not run and execution carries on from after the } .

I can help, if needed.

I played the game. The story picks up where the first episode left, without much recap. (Perhaps it would be nice to offer this to new players?) Anyway, the player gets some assignments and runs errands for the other characters. I felt that this chapter for the most part is for getting to know the environment and meeting some new people, as the story doesn't progress much, and the tasks are very easy. The game is still an improvement from the first chapter, because it's easier to understand how to do what you are supposed to in order to progress.

I have one gripe: the Sierra template is clearly the wrong choice here. The only useful verb is "use", and walking only slows the game down - there's instant transfer if you use the exit instead of walking there. I think the BASS template or something similar would fit the gameplay better.

I agree with Bicilotti. It feels like a meditation exercise. The music was very soothing, as well.

It directs to Khris's shared files. I think he's the safest one of us all.  :)

Like the others, I've been following this for a while. Great to see the game released! Congratulations!

Two fun games! My thoughts are as follows.

Hoopoe's Inferno:
Spoiler
The animals look realistic, but are talking and behaving odd. There is a kind of odd decrepancy there, which I chose to ignore. Noone seems to be too bothered about the fire, either. I like this type of game where you go back and forth between characters and sort out what they want. Even though these just seem hungry.  (laugh)  Lots of nice little touches, like the confused animation of the lead bird, or some funny dialogue writing. The graphics are cool, especially the bird. The game lacks polish, and one-time actions can be performed multiple times, resulting in having several of the same item available even if it's not supposed to be more than one. Likewise, dialogues may repeat after they ought to logically be turned off. I put this down to the team producing this quickly and in time for the deadline, and none of it is game-breaking in any way.

Becalmed:
Spoiler
Like Cat wrote, there may be areas here, too, that could have used more polish. And according to the other players, there may be some bugs making the game unwinnable. I, however, didn't run into them. The game is crammed with lore and details about the life and superstitions on the sea, and it's integrated into the game in a masterful way. There are lots to do, and it's fun doing it.

Although wine receipe calls for stopping fermation with green fruit, it seems there no need doing when making wine, is there in game wine being used more than once?

If I recall correctly, it was only needed once. You can easily pick up more, though, so it could have been two times.

The game doesn't quite have the production values of the former mags entries of yours, but it was still very enjoyable. I especially liked the latin talking bears and the turnaround of the squirrels. And the final battle had me laughing, too. Nice touch about the map getting new areas when progress was made.

Did you use Brewton's Kyrandia module when making this? It was a nice change to be a bird with limited inventory.

Hello Kitty! (Sorry...)
I don't know if you even remember being stuck here, but here some late help.

I've been busy testplaying another game, but got to this tonight, and played it straight through without encountering any bugs (other than a small graphical glitch with the lookout).

Great game! I'm amazed at the number of puzzles and all the lore you manage to cram into a game with relatively few locations and characters. It was a mix of known and unknown superstitions for me, but all well written and explained, yet not straightforward to solve at all. Also looking good.  (nod)

Quote from: Grim on Mon 29/07/2024 14:31:08Hi,

I think it's fine as it is - the original Downfall only being available as a free bonus with the Steam version of the remake.

Regards,

I'll try to update the info in the database entry to make it reflect this.

@DIYDylana - Thanks for giving notice.

Quote from: DIYDylana on Sun 28/07/2024 11:02:50Hey there I can't seem to find any download link for the original downfall, the archive.org one simply links to the demo.
Someone on here asked for it in 2012 yet nobody responded :c. I wonder if it's included in the remake? I could just buy the remake if the case,  but I was curious precisely because I thought the original was free. Or was it changed to be paid, considering only the demo is up??

edit2: Turns  out it IS included in the remake! Should I upload the original somewhere?

Thanks for notifying. I didn't know the archive version was not the full game.

@Grim - Do you have an opinion on this?
(I figured it's best to ask the creator, as he was active here not long ago.)

We can either make the full old game available through the database, or keep it as it is and post that it's now only available when buying the new version. I'd prefer the first option, but will listen to what Grim says.

If the creator has removed the free download but it's being offered as a bonus when you buy the remake, then you probably shouldn't distribute it separately, no.
I don't think that is what has happened, Snarky. I suspect the old download link pointed to a now non-existant site, and that I or some other database admin have repaired it by linking to the archive, not knowing that this was not the full version. Could be wrong, though, so let's hear from Grim first.
