I have this thread in an open tab. The plan is to write something.  :-D

I used the mouse, too. But I found it fiddly to go to the next room, so I used the cursor keys for that. Didn't notice the signs, sorry.

That was fun! I got some FnaF vibes here. The graphics are eerie, especially the dark child spirits. The music is frantic and fits the story well. My main gripe was the controls. I'm not used to keyboard movement, and I needed it to be able to switch rooms. I also repeatedly accidentally ditched my friends and had to go back and get them to follow me.

So, what does

In June I played Slasher's MAG(S) entry from June 2016, Blackudder: To doubloon or not to doubloon. The theme that month was "Neglected Historical Eras", interpreted as historic settings not often utilized in games.

This game uses the British comedy characters Black Adder and Baldrick, cunningly disguised as "Blackudder" and "Baldick". The plot involves overhearing Sir Francis Drake planning to grab treasure from wrecked Spanish galleons, and Blackudder hatching a plan to get there before him and nab the gold. The end goal is to get rich enough to buy the queen a birthday present and avoid being beheaded.

The actual gameplay doesn't take up very much time, but the presentation with cut scenes and the title song does. The comedy is very much in the vein of Black Adder, but of course cannot beat the real Rowan Atkinson and Tony Robinson. Still, I was entertained and smiling the entire time of playing. There are a few puzzles along the way, but grabbing the treasure is quite easy.

But getting away with it is not.

Gameplay is largely first person, while the characters are shown in small portraits on the bottom of the screen, animated while they talk. The game doesn't feel like it's lacking animations, but if you pay attention, you'll see how cleverly the walk cycles have been skipped.  :-D

All in all, a fun feel-good piece that's funnier to fans of the Black Adder tv series, I suppose.  (nod)

The Funny Boneyard bigger demo can be found on itch.io and on the archive. It has a Games in Production thread, but was never added to the database. This one is absolutely worth playing. The graphics are in DOTT style, and the dialogues are full of jokes (which you can decide to read or not, if you want to get on with the game). I liked the humour and the character-driven puzzles. Here's hoping the game doesn't stay in limbo forever.

In the GAMESEEK thread, Cyrus posted these links:

The project is officially cancelled, but what exists of the game can be downloaded here:

Or played online here:

Apologies for bumping, mods can lock the thread; just wanted to let you know.
This is mostly just showing the locations and graphics. You can walk around, but not really do anything. Pity, it looks good.

This is also just a demo where you can walk around in the Monkey Island world, but not do anything.

QuoteDriftwalker
This is a very nice game where you have to go around on a space ship and try to save your crew members and find out who the impostor is. It doesn't feel like Among Us, even though there are some similarities. Even without polish, this one is well worth trying.
QuoteZap and Andy
This is as NSFW as it gets, I guess. The player takes the role of a demon who gets different odd jobs or quests in hell. All the characters, both demons and damned humans, are flamboyantly gay and horny males, and the sex scenes, while cartoonish and exaggerated in style, are very graphic. There are mini-games and actual puzzles to solve, and it's pretty well made, even though it won't be everyone's cup of tea, to put it mildly.

QuoteBest Buddies In : Corporate Espionage
This one is a Buddymon fan game. I'm not familiar with the franchise, but had no problem playing the game, which is a pretty straightforward breaking and entering game with some mini-games and code puzzles. The game mechanics relies more on code breaking and understanding the mechanics than traditional inventory puzzles.

Hints & Tips / Re: stuck in cloud game
Thu 27/06/2024 14:09:02
@bertolino
Please include the title of the game in the thread title, otherwise we may offer hints to the wrong game.

I think what you ask of may point to Jake's Very Last Journey, though I may be mistaken.

You can find hints in this thread. Please update this thread with the name of the game included in the Subject line for the first post. Let us know if this was the game you want help with or not, and whether or not you found what you were looking for in the thread I linked above.

Hi Emmanuel! We're glad to have you here. It will be interesting to see what you bring to the adventure table, seeing as you've worked on a lot of other game genres before. If you plan to make adventure games, that is...AGS can be used in a lot of ways. Welcome!  :)
#351
@Cyrus - thanks for posting it. Is this demo/prototype open-ended? Or does it have a scripted ending? It looks like the Mansion and the cemetery are the available locations.

Quote from: Schedina on Sat 22/06/2024 10:29:48I have an AGS game that is not in any database..

I once uploaded it here with a lot of description as to what it is, what's the reason, etc.
This thread is meant to provide access to AGS games that otherwise are lost or difficult to find. If you have a link to your game, we would be happy to play it. But I'd rather have it in the regular database, where it would get more views and playtime and feedback. If you have uploaded the game here before, I guess it must be under a different alias, as there is no easily found trace of it now.

Quote from: Jordanowen42 on Fri 21/06/2024 04:33:31Awesome but how do I implement "SayAt?" The dialogue page doesn't give me a place to enter code, just dialogue options.

Example:
Code: ags
// Dialog script file
@S  // Dialog startup entry point
 cAlfred.SayAt(454, 74, 100, "I am happy that Master Bruce values my input.");
return
@1
 cAlfred.SayAt(454, 74, 100, "Perhaps I should prepare a simple meal?");
 cAlfred.SayAt(454, 74, 100, "Some Mulligatawny soup?");
 cBatman.SayAt(483, 225, 100, "Tempting as that is, it will have to wait.");
option-off 1
return
// cAlfred.SayAt(454, 74, 100, "Hello, old chap. Back so soon?");
// cBatman.SayAt(483, 225, 100, "I am Batman. I never left.");
@2
  cAlfred.SayAt(454, 74, 100, "It might prove opportune to get a good night's sleep for once.");
 cBatman.SayAt(483, 225, 100, "I manage on micro-sleeps and this tantric meditation technique that allows me to rest far more effectively than by regular sleep.");
  cAlfred.SayAt(454, 74, 100, "If you say so, Master Bruce.");
option-off 2
return

(From my dialogue-only short game Prep Time in case you need to see it in action.)

This should be displayed in a window to the right when you are in the dialog editor. You can see that the dialog script commands (option-off, return) are used without indentation, while to use normal script commands, I have pressed space to indent. (Showing this warts and all, with some places one space and other places two. Will make the better coders here a good groan, I'm sure.)

If I recall correctly, the first two numbers in the paranthesis are coordinates, and the third one is width before line change.

Quote from: Snarky on Fri 21/06/2024 07:00:47In general, this whole approach is probably not the best way to do what you want. (You'll also have to deal with the text advancing on timer or when the player clicks.) I would suggest using a GUI with a Label. Then you can set the text however you like.
This is what I was hinting at in the first reply.
Quote from: heltenjon on Thu 20/06/2024 08:46:18I'm not sure using the dialog system is the best way to do this, but ok.

Quote from: Jordanowen42 on Thu 20/06/2024 02:19:47Hello all-

So I'm doing my first dialogue section for my game. It's actually the dialogue system being used to allow the players to read journal entries from a computer screen. To that end I need to be able to make the text appear on a certain part of the screen and only take up a certain block of space rather than covering the whole screen in the center. Any advice on how to do this?
I'm not sure using the dialog system is the best way to do this, but ok.

You could either make a character cJournal that is invisible (a pixel in the same colour as the background will do) and place it in the correct spot. The dialogue will appear over its "head".

Or you could uncheck the "Say" box in the dialog editor, and instead use the SayAt command, which gives you the opportunity to give coordinates for the lines of text. (You can use regular script commands in the dialog system if you add a space or two before entering the command.)

QuoteAlso- I have set up the dialogues so that each one goes to a separate screen where the person talking appears on one side of the screen while their words appear next to them in a black void. I did this by making a second room from dialogues. To that end I want to make the last option of each dialogue menu be "EXIT" so as to allow the player to return to the previous screen. Any advice on how to do that?
I think you can simply change room to player.PreviousRoom (The same as above, you need to indent by a space or two before using a regular script command).

Congratulations on the release! Here's hoping for a cameo from Person Dressed as a Cup from your last game.  8-)

Thank you! I suspected it might have been something like that. I think I have played the games many years ago, but the images were completely gone from my mind now.  :-D

Inspired by @jwalt and his recent RoN games, I've begun replaying the series in order. I recently played The Postman Only Dies Once by @Dave Gilbert himself. The game is choke full with jokes and connections, and I was wondering:

When Max talks to Davy, there are three transformations where Max (once) and Davy (twice) are replaced by other character sprites. I have a feeling I'm not getting a joke here... Are the other sprites characters I should recognize? From other games, perhaps?  :confused:  ??? The sprites replacing Davy for a few seconds look vaguely familiar, but I can't place them.

@Blackthorne and the others at Infamous Quests made a one-screen tribute game to Stranger Things. They got the vibes right! The Completed Game Announcement thread is here.

Quote from: tag2015 on Tue 11/06/2024 12:01:23Developer Theo Brochet (aka Rural_walker) https://rural-walker.itch.io/ released several short games which are no longer available on itch.io.

The only one I could find elsewhere is Le Lac https://www.moddb.com/games/le-lac
I copied this from the GAMESEEK thread in order to have the working link for Le Lac here. This is a visual poem of sorts, or perhaps a poetic walking simulator. The player walks along a beautiful landscape, while lines from the titular poem appear along the way. Beautiful and relaxing, but all the player does, is clicking to keep walking forwards. The game aspect of it is very limited, in other words, but it works as an interactive animation, interpreting the poem. (Which is in French, but there are translations easily available.)

This one is in Italian only, and it's quite wordy, especially in the dialogues. I played it with a phone translator and escaped. I doubt I would have managed without reading the clues.

This game is designed by a child 4 1/2 years old, it says. It's very charming! Kid's drawings and voice makes it hard not to smile when you see this. I suspect there is a bug somewhere, as I and my kids couldn't finish it on our first go, but it made my day anyway.
EDIT: Finished it...I now think I just couldn't get into the mind of a 4-year old the first time. :-)

QuoteKidnapper Escape - room escape
If not for the blue cups in the files and the setup program, I wouldn't have thought this was made with AGS. It's a short escape the room game, 1.2 Gb of hard disk space and five minutes playtime.

QuoteElvves
Soundless Gobliins-type game, albeit a lot easier. The player has to make a strong elf and a clever elf work together to get Santa ready for Christmas.

...and even more games from Steam that are tagged AGS. I cannot always know for sure if they are tagged by mistake, so corrections or comments are welcome.

Lost in the Tomb looks like a Sokoban clone.

Ghostman: The Council Calamity seems to be a space comedy with rudimentary graphics. I think perhaps the author has used AGS for some smaller or unfinished projects, as well. Will edit this post when I have checked his itch.io content in more detail.

EDIT: Yup, on his itch.io page we can find two unfinished projects that are virtually unplayable, called Murder on the Starlight Express Demo and Ghostman (probably a prototype). I made them run using a copied acwin.exe file. Absolutely unrecommended unless you want everything someone has put out there made with AGS in your collection.

The Antidote is a game where the player is hallucinating and tries to find the antidote. That means that normal logic won't apply much, according to the comments. The game has a Completed game announcement thread in our forums.

Space Raven Quest - Tiny Planet seems to be a short point and click with mature references in the dialogue and descriptions.

Another game with NSFW content is The Secret of FYNDEMOOR Park. This game also has an entry on Abandonsocios, linking to Steam.

Al Emmo: Postcards from Anozira is a hidden object game using the characters from the Al Emmo adventure game. The Completed gane announcement thread is on the forums.

Weed Runner is an adventure game that has the player grow and sell drugs.

The Last Pirate Adventure: Drake's Treasure is a pirate adventure game, of course.
