Most of the Reality-on-the-Norm games are not in the database. At RoN's own gamepages there are 84 titles plus demos and specials. At the RoN collection on the archive, there are 124 titles, some of which are different versions of the same game.

EDIT: Another place on the archive to download all the RoN games is https://archive.org/details/reality-in-the-norm-complete , which includes all released before January 2023.

Likewise, only a few of the Maniac Mansion Mania games are in the database, while the bulk of the 100+ short games usually are available at HTTP://www.maniac-mansion-mania.com At the time of writing, the site seems to be down, though.

Another game by Leafthief is A Heart Between Parts, which finds us playing the role of Frankenstein's Bride. She's been locked in the cellar, and has to escape. Yes, it's an escape game. Well made and fun, with proper old English in the dialogues.

Ben304 made PISS as a part of the Summerbatch 2012. It's high quality, as expected. Don't be fooled by the name of the game.  :-D

Another well-known Ben, Ben Yahtzee Croshaw, made the demo Lee and Perrin: Paranormality, which was abandoned in favour of other projects.

Quite alternative storytelling in this one. It's a science fiction dystopia story concentrating on storytelling. The puzzles mainly consist of finding the triggers for advancing the story, which I liked, especially the story narrated by the moon. (It makes sense in the context.)

This is a game drawing heavily on Vampire: The Masquerade lore. It's wordy and may be a bit off-putting to non-fans. That said, the game is well done and I found much to like here. If you don't find vampires fascinating, you may be a bit at odds with the game's central premise, though.

This is another mood piece from Leafthief. Our heroine wants to skateboard again. Why shouldn't she? The reasons become clear soon enough. Sad, yet hopeful game driven mostly by conversation, but there are also other puzzles, including some fiendishly difficult jigsaws.
QuoteVexation Island The Game
Seriously, google this and read what this is a gamification of first. Played on its own, this is a prank and a very bad game. I can't recommend this. Maybe to art lovers who don't play games.
Spoiler
The movie by the same name goes in a loop. And so does this game. It's all slow walking which will eventually get you nowhere.

Nice music and waves, though.

All in Spanish. This is a short escape the room game. There are lots of jokes, most of which were lost on me because I only understand very basic Spanish. Fully voiced, beautiful graphics (the creator makes comics) and clearly great stuff for our Spanish-speaking members.
QuoteAnimal Agency
So, here's another game by Uma. This one is even more alternative, telling the story of dreaming/sleeping next to animals and avoiding a breakdown. I think. It's more of an art project than a game, funded by FACT Liverpool. I guess this may appeal to people into introspection or to alternative ways of telling a story, or perhaps light symbolism. I must admit to being a little bored.
QuoteEscape the brothel
This is an easy escape the room game. It comes in two versions, one probably made while quite young, and one with updated graphics 10 years later. Not really offensive, despite the settings, but not really worth the time playing either, except for completionists. A few minutes playtime.

Quote from: Radiant on Fri 31/05/2024 20:53:10Blackbird Pie
You control a flock of blackbirds that deliver pie. But first you have to deliver milk and flour to the bakery (to make a crust) and get the crust and topping to the confectionery (to make your choice of various kinds of pie).
Impressive!

I played around with this, but only managed to make money from lemon pie, and only at the confectionary and the trash. Am I doing something wrong with the other two pies? I thought I was to deliver them at the sites showing the corresponding graphic, but I don't seem to be able to. I played until my money count was more than 24, just to see if that was a win condition, but I guess there aren't any?

Very creative and nice concept! Even as a prototype, this was fun. And juggling three birds was difficult - I frequently ended up filling a site with only one type of item by accident.

Quote from: mkennedy on Wed 29/05/2024 14:31:07Another guess would have been bee hive as that is a house for the bees and contains sweet honey which is a type of food, but it has openings for the bees to go in and out of so I wasn't sure if those would be considered doors.

As for the correct answer,
Spoiler
for animals they could eat the house with the food

.
Yes. I think the reasoning behind it is
Spoiler
either that the chick eats the egg from the inside and out, and has to break the shell to get out, or (more likely) it's simply an observation that it's food (for humans) in its own container.

Anyway, the riddle is solved, and anyone can ask a new one. (Or new old one.) Doesn't have to be the one who solved this one, unless you want to.

Quote from: mkennedy on Wed 29/05/2024 11:50:02With regards to doors, would any opening be considered a door?

Spoiler
Another guess would be an egg, but considering that most animals likely eat the shell also I'm not sure that would count.

That is the correct answer! Yay!  (nod)

Stupot, I liked your answer, too, but the expression you guessed, doesn't exist in that form in my language, and the riddle is an old one from folklore.

He says that Brok the InvestiGator by @COWCAT won the award for being the most accessible game. You get an idea why on this section of the game's home page. It looks well deserved, too. COWCAT is on the forum occasionally, so it would be interesting if he could share some thoughts about what kind of tools would be helpful. Even if Alan's ultimately right, I guess I agree with Snarky that it would be nice to know more.

Bump! (I almost forgot about this. Will try to come up with something.)

The sea!

It's full of edible fish, but there are no doors in and out of the sea.

Good guess, but no.
Spoiler
There are rivers and canals. In the spirit of this riddle, those are "doors".

Yes, I didn't realize it until after you posted your answer.  (laugh)

Still no correct answers. Mkennedy has been closest.

I thought that was what Stupot was suggesting. Anyway, while technically correct, it's not the answer we're looking for.
EDIT: Ahhh....sorry, Stupot. My pun mode was not activated.

Nuthouse

Nuts are a kind of food, and there are no doors in the sense that they're not allowed out.

That is an answer that is correct, but it's not the original answer to the riddle (according to Norwegian folklore). If I were to give points, I'd give full score, though.  (nod)

No, that would have two "doors" in a sense.

Cool guess, but no.  ;)

Suggesting some Maniac Mansion style games for the OP: Trapped on the Balcony, The Castle (very close to your described dream game) or simply Thimbleweed Park (which may be too tongue in cheek?).

Quote from: WeeklyJournaling on Sun 26/05/2024 22:10:39Thank you for your interest :)
Yeah, it needs more work and I wanted to copy a bit from the game little two shoes where it's a blend of rpg and visual novel.
You may be interested in checking out Marion's games, as she frequently makes games with AGS that mix these genres. She also changes viewpoints occasionally, like you did when you command the executioner in one scene, so you could steal get inspired by some of her techniques. ;)

I also played this, and I agree with the others that the art is cool, and that the interface is a tad confusing.

There seems to be no need for walking around or examining things, and interaction and talking could easily be the same action. Of course, it could be that you are planning things for later episodes that make the Sierra template the better choice for the whole story, but I think you could consider rather using the BASS template, and even so, perhaps simplify it to using only left click and inventory. Having the small "me" walk around in the background while the portraits show was only confusing.

I struggled when I was told to use the notebook, and didn't notice the marking where I was supposed to click. Clicking everywhere eventually made the game progress. Later on, the circles of colour are more visible. But this is not supposed to be a puzzle, I guess, so simply clicking while she's holding the book seems enough to tell me that she's using it.

The art and animation style I liked. It stands out and give the girl character. The two assassins a bit less so, but they make up for it in dialogue. I liked that
Spoiler
they were late for the execution. Very nice story idea.

We've seen too little of the story to tell yet, but if the goal is to trigger the players' curiousity, you succeeded. I want to know more of the story.

Whoops, Iancu is a boy, not a girl, you write in the game description. I'm not familiar with names in your language, so I guess I was fooled by your voice.  :-D

Usually, the games I like the most are the games someone else made that I didn't know I wanted. The ones that surprise me. There have been made lots of games either set in the Maniac Mansion or using the same style and setup, but they are unlikely to make the same kind of impact as the first game one played in that style. That being said, I'd love to be proven wrong, and there are many sequels that surpass the prior game in a series. But usually, they add something to the mix, or change it around a bit.

But I'll bite. Personally, I'd like a Batman game with no action scenes, only investigation. A detective game. (Could be that the TellTale game did that - I haven't played it.)

The new art looks stunning!
#397
Congratulations to you on the release, and to all of us for having this available. Lucky us!  ;-D

The AI graphics look nice, but fake in some way. I guess it's because the interactive bits stand out and lack shadows and the like. It reminded me somewhat of those toys with movable stickers (or magnets) on set backgrounds. Or the Kalkitos rub-off non-removable stickers from my childhood. Ahhh. [/Nostalgia mode] Anyway, it would be easy to slag off the game for using this tech, so I won't do that.

The story is silly and the humour darker than one should expect. I liked the interaction with the old man, while the puzzle solution left me wondering. Heavy spoiler:

So, I basically murder the bus driver, steal his keys and drive the bus to my home. The main character is ending up in jail right after the game ends, I guess. There's an explanation problem with the bus parked in the driveway.  (laugh)

I know, I never complained when you had a whale with a cell phone in Nauticell, so I guess my sudden bout of realism here is my problem. But this story didn't quite stick for me, and I ended up not liking the character I'm playing. Good to see you making games again, though.
