Here are my thoughts this month.

The Roadtrip by 4KbShort
Spoiler
The game has a creepyness to it, but the mood is broken by comments breaking the fourth wall and talking directly to the player. The giant fuse was amusing, and I liked the shack in the woods. Pretty straightforward in gameplay and puzzles.

Mad Max Jack: Brakedown Shakedown by RootBound
Spoiler
This one-room game kept me entertained for a while. I had fun trying to combine items and using them on the vehicles. I haven't found all the achievements yet, and after finding most of them, I kept wishing that I could control which vehicle should appear next in order to try out my ideas. But the game deserves credit for effective graphics, nice Matyas music and satisfying sound effects.

I voted for
Spoiler
Brakedown Shakedown, because there are more puzzles and longer playtime than in the other game.

@4KbShort, please add your game to the database on the game page!

The sense of humour is great, and the premise is well executed. I got to 42/55 achievement points and really have no idea what more to do. I hope the ones I am missing are actually stuff it's possible to think of trying. I must admit I got some by luck.

Nice work!

In the dialogue script, you can use normal script commands if you start a line with a space or two. You should be able to use this to add this animation/change view at the start of the dialogue, and remove it when your character says "bye" to end the conversation.

Does that help any?

Big congratulations to everyone nominated and awarded! I haven't been able to be very active in the community lately, so it was really great to tune in and meet the flock (I guess we need to be called that now...) again.

Apparently, I was, unbeknownst to me, cast as this year's trophy thief. As fortune would have it, just as I was put on stage to grab NewWaveBurrito's runner-up MAGGIES prize, my pc finished its countdown to an update, making me seemingly disappear with the stolen trophy. Some gags can be classified as "you had to be there", but this one is clearly a "you had to not be there".  :-D

And who knew that the Great Prophet Zarquon was a sheep? (Maybe only DualNames will get that one.)

Quote from: tag2015 on Tue 21/03/2023 11:55:24About the other entry, the author is "Luis Angel Aleixandre Arnau" and the game looks a lot like his unsuccessful kickstarter "The Seeds of Vala".
He probably reused some of the assets for this AdvJam entry.
Yes, I noticed that, too. He's not been active on this community since 2019, but you could try reaching out. Seeds of Vala uses the nine-verbs, though, while the jam game looks like it is made with the BASS template. The settings look a lot like the gameplay video posted for Seeds of Vala, so you may very well be right.

This one look like a MAGS game? probably around 2007

This is from an hourgame contest. It's included here: https://lost-ags-games.itch.io/hourgames-collection

The thread on this site is here: https://www.adventuregamestudio.co.uk/forums/completed-game-announcements/hour-games/msg381242/#msg381242

Hope that helps.

Quote from: Snarky on Tue 07/03/2023 13:08:57Is it just me or is there a notably high number of commercial titles this last year?

Quote(Personally I solve this by only considering commercial titles for nomination if they are games I would buy in any case.
It certainly is a lot. I solve it by watching videos before nominating. One can get a feel for art, animation or voice acting just by doing that, though I would be hesitant to actually votefor a game that I had not played. So I guess I'll binge play some commercial titles in the interrim between nomination and voting deadlines.

Quote from: lanchong on Tue 28/02/2023 05:36:17What are the controls? Clicking with the mouse doesn't do much. Maybe because I'm on Linux.

I love all your games so I look forward to playing this one :)

Thanks
The screenshots look like a text parser, so you'd better get typing!  (nod)

Quote from: cedricl31 on Sun 26/02/2023 20:20:10Thanks Heltenjon for your response
For Shades of Grey, my missing game is "Shades of Grey" without a final e to "Greye".
This proximity in the title is very confusing and does not help the search !
I think that if the only reference you can find to this game is in the list in the ScummVM wiki, you may assume that it's a spelling error.
QuoteI'm going to download the demo first chapter of Grandma Badass to see if its recognized as confinement by ScummVM

Edit : first chapter of Grandma Badass is not recognized as Confinement
I have no experience with ScummVM, so pardon me for asking stupid. Do you get an error message? @adipson first released this game's first chapter, called Confinement, then withdrew it because he changed his mind away from doing the game in chapters. I believe he may have changed/updated the first part of the game as well in the process, but I only have his devlog on Itch and a couple of PMs for sources. Of course, if you understand French, you may check the French forum directly.

Edit: If you see the database page for the first chapter, you'll see why I guessed this would be your game.

New Edit: I was wrong. Wohoo! More games!  (nod)

This is now linked to the AGS depository and should work.

Edit:
Perhaps the "Confinement" game is the first chapter of Grandma Badass? It's now commercial (although with a free demo) on https://adipson.itch.io/grandma

Quote from: cat on Fri 24/02/2023 16:30:53Two days left and only 21 people have nominated so far  8-0

We need more nominations to have a result with some significance.
A game needs to have at least 5 votes to be nominated. Currently, this does not apply for a single game for Best Character and Best Short game.
8-0  8-0  :(

Perhaps people are not aware that you don't have to do it all at once? You can send in, and then amend the list later.

I added five more games to my short game list in the hopes that it will help.

Quote from: Stupot on Fri 24/02/2023 01:01:56As well as not being posted in this thread (yet - there's still time), it seems as though Bowsette's demo was also started considerably before this topic was announced.

I'm inclined not to allow it this time but am open to change my mind if others think that is too harsh.

You are totally right, I posted without thinking. Sorry.

Quote from: eri0o on Fri 24/02/2023 01:33:26@heltenjon hope you get well soon, our eyes are super precious things. :(
Thanks! I'm on medication and getting better. Not really a hardcore gamer/coder right now, though.

Quote from: Volcan on Thu 23/02/2023 22:57:32BowsetteGamer released a game in february. MAGS is selected.

https://www.adventuregamestudio.co.uk/site/games/game/2659-ultimalatin-demo-fangame/

I don't know why the user didn't post it here.

I doubt @BowsetteGamer knew about the contest. However, her demo fits the rules this month, so why not? It's in Spanish, though.

I was considering making something small this time, but got an eye infection and haven't been doing much of anything, neither AGS nor IRL.

Using "whose severed head is this?" would work in a context of executioners discussing their technique or which weapons produce the desired effects, prompting a "It's one of mine" answer. I doubt this is relevant to the game you are making.

If you need some discussion to arise, one could always make a point of someone pointing out that in a given time, all heads are effectively the ruler's property, or perhaps that a slave doesn't own his head. However, this kind of bickering probably fits better for darkly humorous games, and I have an impression that your project is more serious than that. (The Norwegian word for salvation, "frelse", literally means "fri hals" - "free neck/throat", which in viking times meant that a thrall could be killed by his owner like any livestock unless he was given his freedom back.)

Nice! Congratulations on the release!  ;-D
#738
Wow, that was fast! Congratulations on the release!
#739
Yeah, it's off-topic until you decide to include it in the game.
Spoiler
Perhaps as a solution to a puzzle with regards to breathing in space or on a planet with a toxic atmosphere.

Anyway: [offtopic]I actually know a guy who, for a joke, posted a bag of "glacier air" on ebay. (He works with tourists doing glacier walks.) To his astonishment, someone actually wanted to buy it, for a stiff price.[/offtopic] :-D

Looking good! Some nice nods to adventure game history here - the street from Monkey Island, of course. And I'm not quite sure of this one, but the round windows in the underground cottage reminds me of some old The Hobbit game.

Best of luck with the production!
