I played The Crete Escape, a very good-looking game made with Visionaire Studio. I enjoyed this and agree with Lorenzo's comment above. The pluses are the great graphics, the characters and their dialogue, helped by some good voice acting, while the puzzles are a tad easy and at times a bit of a pixel hunt. It's a good production made by a heap of people.

I also played The Toilet Zone, made with Unity. Okay, so someone made a game about being dragged down in the toilet and becoming a part of the war of turds and flies. The toilet humour is a vital part of this game, and it was funny and well made. Recommended if this kind of craziness seems like your idea of fun. But if talking to and befriending animated poop people is not what you call a good time, then this is exactly not the game for you.  :-D

And I played The Nymph's Laugh, made with Visionaire Studio. This is interesting seen in the light of the recent forum discussion about AI art, as it is a game using exactly that. It looks stunning, and while it's basically only one long puzzle, the game hits the right folklore nerve and tells a good story through said puzzle. It's really worth checking out.

I've played through it and got two of the endings. Will try to find the third as well.

This a quite good first game. You can certainly draw, so your game looks good. It's first person, meaning no animation this time around, but the game works fine without it. You've written a logical crime story, and the signposting is good enough that the player knows what to do next and when he's finished for the day. Even though the story is sad, like murder mysteries tend to be, I was entertained by it. Well done!

Some things that can be improved: I guess English may not be your first language? The game could benefit from some proofreading. While nothing was difficult to understand, there are numerous errors that somewhat disturb the flow of the game because it breaks the immersion.

The game is silent. (As was my first games, too.) There is music available for free at this very site, so you can easily find some tunes with a noir quality. Sound effects can also be found for free if you don't want to dabble into making your own.

There is some lack of polish. Some hotspots are still named "Hotspot 2" and similar. Ideally, they will have names and give feedback to any type of action the player makes. Likewise, there are locations that doesn't serve a purpose in the story. I don't think you need the bathroom in the apartment or the outside of the police station - when going to the station, the player could just as easily be placed indoors. Last, I'll mention that some locations have exits while others do not. It took me a while to realize that I could use the map on top of the screen to exit any location.

Thanks for the game, and I hope it's the first of many!

Played courtroom drama to an end and enjoyed it immensely.  (nod)

Edit: Bug report:
Spoiler
The game crashes if you try to load a saved game before making your first save.

The nurse is called "she" and "her" during the first testimony, yet turns out to be a man. There's nothing hinting at cross-dressing or anything, so it looks like a mistake.

Agreed, the topic is super! I hope lots of AGS-ers jump on this one.

If anyone more artistically inclined than myself need a hand with story, dialogue or puzzles, feel free to give me a shout.

The Rumpus Room / Re: Name the Game

(laugh) I have no idea if that means I'm miles off the mark or not. But okay, I'll make up some more generic titles and see if one sticks.

The Sword of Truth!

The Shield of God!

The Knight of Heaven!

The Secret Agent of the Lord: Mysterious Ways - Wetworks III

Oh, it's a Christian game. I haven't played it, but don't they have titles like "Soldier of Light" or "Soldier of Faith"? Purely guessing here.

Completed Game Announcements / Re: Siren

I played it, and it's a good game! I'm not all that fond of using the darkness and finding my way through pixel hunting, but I forgive it readily when it's an integral part of the story. I liked the two puzzles outside the best, though. (The ones inside are classics, but I've done variants of them in other games.)

Is it just me, or are these walkcycles unusually good? Also nice use of light effects and a very appropriate tune from Eric Matyas. And the title fits to a t.

Turn lights back on, then exit car and inspect surroundings.

Quote from: Jabbage on Sun 25/09/2022 10:37:20The big positive is that I've got a built in audience. I've been making webcomics for the best part of a decade and getting anyone to look at anything I've made is such a difficult slog, then with this project I released few videos and screenshots of what I was working on on social media expecting nobody to look at it and before I knew it I had hundreds of people following along and sending me questions and asking when the game will be released. I had to curb expectations and make it clear that it's probably going to take me a couple of years! The enthusiasm was so refreshing though.
This. There is so much content floating around these days that most blogs/books/games/videos/facebook posts... will gather very little attention. Then there are a few that go viral, partly because of the sorting algorithms of search engines and the social media themselves. It's no fun feeling like you have poured your soul into your product (games, on this site) and then get the big silence in response. But there it is.

Making a fangame practically guarantees some level of interest, especially if using the correct keywords, making it available by google search. I guess a Holmes fangame called "The Symbol of the Five" would risk being overlooked.  :-D  And who knows, perhaps some of the fangame crowd may decide to also check out your other efforts. I do that myself, at least.

I've played the two AGS entries (Where did the Humans Go? and Saturday Night is the Loneliest Night of the Week 2 and given proper feedback in the Completed Games threads. Both games are good and well worth playing!

I also played Fish the Detective, which is a Godot game that I can't really recommend. Basically, the player controls a fish in a square and must try to steer it into buildings that surround it and trade the item in his inventory for something the character in that location has. The game has some funny written lines, but annoying music, little graphic flair and lack of signposting drag the impression down. The game would have benefitted from having a visible inventory and giving proper feedback to the player. As it is, the only hint to what you are carrying or if the trade was successful, is watching if you scored points. I solved the game through trial and error.

I finished playing The Stinker, and have to admit that I thoroughly enjoyed causing wanton destruction. (laugh)

On the construction site, I could break a window without the pebbles. After that, the chapter would not end, so I guess that window didn't count into the score.

That's another great story from you. Congratulations!

Praise first. As always, the art is magnificent. I don't think I've ever mentioned the font you use, but it's a marvellous fit for the speech balloons, emphasizing that graphic novel feeling. The music chosen also is appropriate for a sci-fi feeling, and Eric Matyas' tunes sound professional while not stealing the spotlight.

The story and characters also work very well. There's both comedy and tragedy here, mixed together to create a story worth thinking about and discussing after playing the game. I liked the tailor and the cook best...given more time, perhaps even the guard could have played a bigger role?

Then there are the puzzles. I didn't have any difficulties, but still felt very satisfied while solving them. There's quite a lot to do, and the way you keep track of it, is also very nice and user friendly. It's hard to rank difficulty, but I'd guess it's about average - perhaps going on easy for experienced adventurers, like most of us are. It'll be fun to read how people outside the Blue Cup Community do.  :-D Favourite puzzle - getting the steering rod. (I laughed!)

Any gripes or suggestions for improvements I may make, are hardly fair, given that you made the game in 14 days for a jam.  (laugh) But if you decide to tinker more with it, I guess there are room for more animations (which I always love to see how you do) and "unnecessary" actions. I would have loved to see the pilot have a go at the  static training cycle, for instance. Some sentences (especially questions) have what I guess must be Italian sentence structure: "Why there are (...)" instead of "Why are there (...)", and some dialogue options may be removed after they have served their purpose. The tailor can still be asked about his hat after you have taken it.

Even so, I think the game is great and heartily recommend everyone to have a go at it. Play it through to the end to get the entire story!

I noticed that spoilers do not work correctly, instead the "hide" tags are displayed verbatim.
Did syntax change or they are broken? If syntax changed, is there a way to convert the topics to the new one automatically?
AGA wrote in the thread AGS Website Redesign, which probably is a bit misleadingly placed in Adventure Related Talk and Chat.

And...played it. Very nice! While there probably was more eye candy in the first installment, I think this is the better game. This time around we get puzzles! And good ones, too, I might add. There's a fun and confusing story (that's kind of the theme of the jam, so that's okay), with plenty of humour. And of course, you do know how to make it look good.

You had me at "tut".  :-D  Will download and try it out! The stills are looking good, and I can't wait to see them move around!
