Hi.

Hopefully at least a small number of you haven't forgotten about this game... I took a break from it to work on some other things.

Sydney Treads the Catwalk his on the very edge of completion.

I'm only waiting on Steve to complete is wonderful soundtrack. I've drawn a cartoon to help remind you why you should look forward to this game! If you haven't seen the show Dexter the reference may be lost on you, so just enjoy the fun drawings!

In other Sydney news, I've been working on a 16 page comic titled, 'Sydney and the Quest for Eternal Enlightenment.' The first four pages will be on my blog shortly. In the meantime, here's a sneak look at the art style:

If you want to play Sydney Treads the Catwalk, and you can't wait, then bug Steve on his blog!
Happy happenings!

Thanks for the support SuperDre.

I haven't given up on this project, but I have been slightly distracted with other endevours.

I have coded around half of the game and Pixel Blink has been sended several songs that he's either completed or working on.

I've always intended on having the option to switch the voices on or off according to the players liking. I feel like CosmoQueen has the best plan.

If people are enjoying the game when I do release it then I might decide to spend some time on the voices and release a voice pack afterwards.

Cheers peeps.

Sorry for neglecting the thread, and for bumping it now. I do have good reason though...

But my main reason for bumping is because I have a question. I'm currently tossing up whether or not to do the whole game with voice acting. So my question is:

Would you prefer waiting for the game with voices or have it sooner without?

Your deserve to have your ego stroked twice daily PB! It's rare that an indie game gets an original soundtrack, let alone one that is both uniquely suited to the game and brilliant as a stand alone body of work.

And thanks cosmoqueen, I really appreciate such positive feedback!

Thank you all for such a welcoming response.

In answer to Stupot's question:
The game is going to be slightly longer than the first one. Unlike SFE, it will be broken up into four different acts, so it will just be a different structure. It's more narrative driven, I guess. I'm trying to make the series evolve naturally as I get better at puzzles and stories.

The soundtrack will again be made by Pixel Blink. We might take a different approuch to it, in terms of how many songs we use, but the style will still be the same. I am pleased that you appreciate all the work PB put into the game.

Thanks again.

On an update, all twelve of the backgrounds have been drawn!

Thanks for the constructive comment Snarky.

And you're right. I've been working really hard this time round to include as many original reactions to different actions. It doesn't take much of my time to do so, and it improves the sense of immersion instantly. Particularly using items on other characters. But I like to include a lot of hotspots in the rooms, so that the answers aren't always obvious. So I've got to find a balance somewhere.

Thanks again.

Thanks for all the encouraging words so far, people.

I've drawn two new backgrounds and two new characters since the first post. The coding has also progressed.

I suspect this game will take a lot longer than the first because there will be multiple playable characters according to where you're at in the story. It's also broken up into four different acts, but that's all I'll say on the matter.

I am stuck at a point not covered in the forum.
Spoiler
I have a bucket full of crap from Raj's restaurant. He won't let me in his store, I can't go anywhere because Sydney says the bucket is too heavy, I try to empty the bucket in the sea, in the barrels, on Raj and on the fisherman and nothing happens.
The things that I still got in my inventory are: rope, scissors, dust cloth, curry, driving license, walkie-talkie, collar, wig, blow-dryer).

Any hint is very welcome!

JustAGuest:

You must not have tried the right part of the sea. Remember that it only works as a hotspot if a description of the area appears in the bottom of the screen.

WTCQ:
I think there is an english walkthrough somewhere, but I couldn't tell you where. You can always try translating the foriegn one. Most puzzles are covered in this thread anyway.

Sydney Treads the Catwalk

Sydney, a bum turned star, finds his new career in the media has hit a hiccup when his television show doesn't receive the ratings it expected. Keith Corps (head of Business Corps) warns Syd that if he can't even compete with the fashion channel he'll be forced to axe the show and throw the lovable tramp back on to the streets.

After stumbling onto a string of suspicious accidents within the fashion industry Sydney and his friends uncover a mystery that could cost them their lives or worse- their limbs!

PS. Thank you to all those who played and enjoyed the first game. I hope I can address the mistakes that I made in Sydney Finds Employment and create another fun game for y'all.

Ali, I downloaded the patch and did what you said but...
Spoiler
Nelly still says that the moustache is a great disguise but she should only use it if she needs it.

Here's
my save file.

I could quite easily play through the whole game and get back to where I was, but it might be worth your time to fix it if this is a genuine bug. Thanks!

using the moustache

here did work that ?
Peter:
Nope, I've already tried that. Unless there is a certain place I need to click it. Thanks for getting back so quick though.

I also discovered a bug I forgot to mention:
Spoiler
If you talk into the pipe more than once it still runs through the fish-plane takeoff and disguise cutscene, which gives you an unlimited supply of vouchers which also means you can get several kinky undies. Despite having more than one pair of kinky undies-the Baroness still won't accept any from me!

Does anyone know how to give the kinky panties to the Baroness? She won't accept it from a pirate, but I don't know how else to give it to her. I tried using the moustache disguise again, but that didn't work. Any hints?

Great game so far, by the way! Even if I am more inclined towards pixel graphics, the game still has a strong visual sense and I like it.

I bit messy, nihilyst, but it creates a really effective atmosphere and I like your colour choice and I suppose it is meant to be rusty. Nice scene! I'm always happy when I see pixel art in the backyard blitz challenges.

Thought I'd just update this thread with info on the official soundtrack release.

All the music PB created for my indie game, Sydney Finds Employment, is now available and uncut for your listening pleasure over at SoundClick. Kudos to PB for writing up this list of songs which will eventually be printed out as a cd envelope to be distributed as promotional offerings, gifts for friends, and whatnot.

Thanks again Pixel Blink.

Very appealing little game you've made here MashPotato.

Normally I'd say that the main character sprite is too large for an adventure game, but you've managed to handle him and his surroundings nicely- and further more with style. Reminds me slightly of the style of a Cartoon Network toon 'Fosters Home for Imaginary Friends.'

It was surprisingly fun to experience the world of a depressed artist. Quite an original spin and I like the understatement of completing such mundane, daily tasks. The music was also well suited and puzzles logical, if a little too simple. All I could really ask for is MORE!

(PS. In my mind I'd like to think that the 'homeless man in the box' line was a reference to my game, but that's most likely wishful thinking on my behalf).

I've updated the download with a newer version with a couple of slight edits.

-TAB now has no affect on the game.
-It should be impossible to get stuck in the wall at the Pet Appreciation store.
-Sydney lets you know that when you start walking slow that you should try to find a way to speed up again.
-A couple of spelling errors have been fixed. If you notice any that I didn't, please tell me!
-Added a line to the note pad that lets you know you can skip the intro.

Thanks to Nostradamus for reminding me to do these things.

CosmoQueen that title you chose as your favourite happens to be the working title for the Sydney graphic novel I'm working on writing at the moment :)

Steel Drummer, the adventure would most likely be free on the internet unless I could find any publishers interested. I'd love to make it as a short animated film, but I have neither the money or ability. One day perhaps!

All my cartoons can be found on my blog. I still write the short four panel Sydney strips, but I'd like to do something longer.

There's probably enough clues here to get ANYONE through the game, but I've just recieved a walkthrough from peter. Worth checking out if you need it.
