Critics' Lounge / Re: First Background

try changing the blue of the sky to a more natural blue. For referance look out of you window on a nice day or take a look at some other backgrounds.

Make the windows transparent and have a flat suface behind it with a texture mapped picture of a dark living room or some cutains on it. that will give it some extra depth without having to model the interier.

i like them, what program did you use to make them, i am interested in making backgrounds like yours for a game i am doing.
Thanks. I used crappy old paint for the outlines and paint shop pro for the details andeverything else.

ahm.....i have to go now

i like your backgrounds, the perspective of the second looks a little bit odd to me
Thanks for the x wing. The second one is a scrolling room so it doesent look as bad. It's the same sort of perspective as the first pic just stretched out.

The clouds in the third bg look very Apprentice-ish ;)

I think you should make the wizards hut a little smaller and less impressive. And, if you have textures in the grass, the path, the roof and the door, the walls should get some texture as well ...
Yes the clouds are sort of apprentice-ish because i used it as a referance on how to draw clouds. Wizard hut smaller? I thought I might have to make it bigger. As for the texture on the wall, thats kind of hard to do. Any paintovers welcome, just for suggestions.

nintendo has always been better than sega in my view. Why dont you get a N64? They should be pretty cheap.

Nes is the first nintendo console. Snes is the sequel so it's much better.

I love it. But if he's a SCi Fi fan then maybe you should put some space ships or something like that hanging in the ceiling.
Small tiny space ships are hard draw. They are only a few pixals so its hard to make them look like space ships.

Critics' Lounge / a bunch of backgrounds.

This is the bedroom of a sci-fi fan. The outlines are there to fit into the same style as the characters. The branch out the window holds a bird which you can talk to. So what do you think?

This is supposed to be a sci-fi convention but I ran out of thing to add (doing small pixally sprites is hard). The laser to the left of the screen is a time laser which shoots out a beam and pushes you into the past or future.

This is a wizards hut in the past. I tried to do it rounded but the roof and window was hell to work out.

Try checking other walking animations to see what they have that you dont. Also the feet need to lift of the ground not slide, and you should try moving the arms.

Thank you.
1) Hmm... I use this black space a lot as you can see to add details I could not paint inside the room ( like the vehicle in the second room, I couldn't paint it with colors and everything ), that's why there's a lot of it. Well, some people like it, some not, it's a question of taste, I guess, but I'll work on that and make it smaller the next time!

2) Could you describe what exactly you mean? Do you mean the sading in the walls? I am not too happy with it myself, but I thought it's better than having just flat colored walls. Give me some tips how to do walls better!

3) A window in the wall as often seen in those police offices in the 70ties or so, you are right, goél. It does not look quite like it I have to admit. It just lacks detail I guess.

McCrea: Thanks to you, too. I'll look into your suggestions and keep you up to date...
1) The black works ok, it's just that ther isent as much room left over for the main part of the room.
2)Yes the walls, And no I cant give tips as all my walls are flat so I know very little aboute shading. good attempt anyway. I suppose the shading makes everything look a bit more dirty and lived in which could work as a style.

i would guess its a window :)
Funny place for a window.

He's a bit dark, maybe you cold brighten him up, then hell fit in with your backround more easily. Also what has he got in his mouth, Im guessing its a pipe but it looks like he has a moustach that is as big as his nose. It looks weird.
#132
Hey pretty cool. I use mspaint with paint shop pro and 4 hours later my backgrounds dont look half as good.  The only thing's that bug me are
1) The black takes up too much screen
2) The shading looks weird.
3) What is that space above the computer?
#133
Looks very nice. Might be hard to achieve for the whole game (unless youre spending a while on it or having fewer backgrounds.). As for the tint, the top one looks colder, more of an unpleasant feeling. the bottom looks warm and welcoming. Choose whichever fits the situation.

I think the Logo  would look better in red or yellow. It shouldent be too hard to change.

Advanced Technical Forum / CD audio volume?
Tue 03/05/2005 12:45:17
Ive set up my game so that the music is either the midi files that I put in or a CD that they want on. On my options screen I have a gui which lets you controll whether you want midi or cd on. I also have volume sliders for music and sound. My main problem is that I cant change the CD volume. Ive set the master volume and ive set individuel channels but nothing works. How do you change the CD volume?

He look's kinda sad and huanted. That's kind of hard to do so I think you have done a great job.

yea I think youre right. Im now thinking aboute the wings, not much detail in them. I know its a concept sketch but the wings still need to be sketched in more detail (if they are wings) so you know how to do them when you create youre character.

Looks great, exept his skull thingy. Doesent he have any eyeholes? or does he somehow sense his enviroment?
#139
Looks great. The only problem I can see is that his arms are too dark. Maybe you should brighten them up a little.

Very nice progzmax the face does look better but it takes away from the look (sort of cartoony rather than more realistic). I will however take your suggestion on the arms. Thank's.
