I would appreciate if someone over here could translate content of this page for me. I think it's Thai language but I haven't found any free Thai to English online translator, thus I'm stuck...  :-[

Hi,

It's been quite a long time since I posted anything so here goes one little piece. It's a splash screen for a mobile game.

It's not finished yet thus the text as it is now is quite rough, the same goes for cloak.

Anyway, what do you think about it?

I just thought I'd share this neat clip as it blew me away. The ending in particular.

Soud on is a must!

General Discussion / S*T*O*R*M
Mon 19/09/2005 11:47:46
Hi everybody,

here I am with a little request. I am working on a mobile shoot 'em up which is going to be completed soon. The problem is we didn't have any good sounding name, only working title which can't be used for variety of reasons. But finally we've come up with simple name: S*T*O*R*M. It sounds OK for a shmup and it looks like an acronym of some sort.

Now, here goes my problem: I am not able to come up with any decent meaning for the acronym :)

Any suggestions? As you can see it's pure shmup set in three worlds (snow, jungle, desert). Primary goal is to save whatever has to be saved...

Screenie:

Here's my shot at it:

Special
Team
Of
Rescue
Missions

As you can see, it sounds a bit lame... at least to me. But, hey: cyborgname websitecame up with even worse acronym :)

So, if any of you have any idea, please tell me. Your name will be listed in credits and you will get a free copy of the game.

General Discussion / Priceless...

Heh, I just dug up a hilarious photo I took a couple of years ago, promptly lost and was looking for ever since. It's my friend at the end of our summer job.

Unfortunately I can't find a photo of mine at the same situation but it doesn't matter.

I played with Photoshop for a while to create MasterCard ad feel...

Critics' Lounge / Titlescreen (non adventure)
Mon 14/02/2005 15:38:59
I've been working on titlescreen for a mobile shoot'em up last couple of hours. This is what I have so far:

The rocket should be more crisp and metallic maybe... But I kinda like it this way. I don't know...

What do you say?

Critics' Lounge / My Pixel Thread
Tue 21/09/2004 18:35:13
Hi,

I should be working on MIA now, I know... and I am (don't worry, Foz) and I hope to bring you something MIA-related soon.

But for now, let me show you something different. It's not adventure related but still I would appreciate your feedback.

I was asked to do graphics for a mobile phone game (Moon Patrol remake)and I accepted. Yes, it's paid.

Now, I have no experience in pixel art but I gave it a try:

Original size

2x

It is not yet finished, sky could use some shading, the vehicle too and there are no enemies yet but what do you think? Would you like to play a game looking like this on your phone? Is there anything wrong with the picture?

Tear it apart, please, it' s going to be (hopefuly) a commercial product.

EDIT: New splash on the second page.

I just bought a computer magazine LEVEL which sells about 50.000 copies each month and guess what?
Coup de Cup is included in full games section of cover CD/DVD. But better than that: It has a review inside the mag (quite positive one) with screenshots and stuff.
Yay! I didn't expect this but it really makes my day.

Hi,

Let me present the newest System Cell project

Me and Foz decided to take a little break from our work on MIA and join this month's MAGS competition.

I won't give away too much since this game is gonna be released soon but I can tell you that it will feature:

a) Three playable backgrounds
b) Main character to roam these BGs!!!
c) Two other NPCs.
d) Verb coin GUI to love for those who love it and to hate for those whoÃ,  Ã,
Ã,  Ã,  don't.
e) Some other stuff!!!

As for progress, all the GFX are complete, the same goes to plot and puzzles. Now I'm poking Foz with a stick every half an hour or so to speed up the scripting a bit...

Well, here are some screenies:

OK, after translating yet another review from plnehry.cz I decided to set up this thread -Ã,  a complete overview of my translations. Also all possible future translations on request will go here.

EDIT: A sticky, huh?! I just wanted to say this: Should anybody else happen to have a translation of AGS game review, please feel free to post it here. You can add your comments on reviews too.

Hi,

doing translations from plnehry.cz website for people who asked fot it I took some time to browse through adventure games available at the site.
There is an anual independent gamemakers contest in Czech Republic sponsored by company that produces herb liquor called Becherovka. The task is to create whatever game under 5 megs somehow related to this spirit. There are quite interesting prizes thus the games are interesting as well.

I found this one called Becheruv sen or Becher´s Dream in English and it´s just sweet. It takes place at the beginnning of 19th century and you play Mr. Becher from Carlsbad spa - the founder of the company and it´s funny as hell. (At least in Czech, that is).

Here is the screenie:

It has only 4 megs and there is English version option too!!!
So don´t hesitate to download it at

Critics' Lounge / Landscape backgrounds
Tue 13/01/2004 08:31:58
Hi everybody,

I know this is kinda offtopic but it has some relevance to adventure gaming. Since I was tired working on my adventure game I wanted to take a little break. A friend of mine asked me if I could develop some technique for creating landscape backgrounds for an adventure/RPG that he would be able to create himself without using ugly tiles.
I gave it a shot, I found some textures I did a couple of years ago in Autodesk Animator, sketched some trees and went layer â€" crazy.

This is the outcome.

I think it doesn ´t look bad or too generic. And it´s easy to make at the same time so he could be able to continue on his own.

What do you think?

I don´t know whether it should go here, probably yes but...

While I use my home computer, I cannot see and click on subjects at forums. Everything else works just fine, I can see and click on who has started the topic and number of replies, but subject field is just blank.
I have encountered this problem at other YabbSE powered forums too. I guess it has something to do with my browser settings. I run MSE 6. I tried Opera but it´s just the same.

Any of you could help?

Thanks, jaz

Allright, I haven´t posted any artwork for a long time but now I have found some spare time. I even plugged in my tablet I have bought over a year ago. Till yesterday it was just sitting on my desk, yeah some fourteen months! I can´t believe it myself. I started to fiddle with this toy, only wanting to do some sketching, try pressure sensitivity settings and stuff. I didn´t have any intention to make a BG. I wanted to sketch a furnace because I´m working on a game where it will play an important role. Then I wanted to try some coloring then I added some stuff here and there and then it just snowballed.

Voila:

When I started I was a little bit disappointed because it wasn´t that easy to draw as I would have expected and the lines were a bit shaky. But then I was just like OK, don´t try too hard, make it your style.

So, any C&C on style are welcome. I probably won´t use this BG in a game  (but one never knows and I´m lazy....) and I know some flaws myself, but I´m considering going for this style. So what do you think? And what do you think about the character?

EDIT:

Since I had some spare time during holidays I was able to make a couple of things

Preliminary walkcycle:

movement still needs some tweaking, should serve as a base for further work

Character: how it should look in the game

NPC: a quick sketch of one NPC I did just for fun, but I like him so he may appear in the game...

Critics, comments???

And, yes!  Happy New Year everybody!

*EDIT* 0105/04: south walkcycle: Im not quite happy with this. Any suggestions? please read the lower post. Thanks.

Hey, anybody aware of this?

http://opentrap.narod.ru/

(56'ers note that it could take some time to load all the pics)

I have found this websit a couple months ago and quickly forgot it. Now I have stumbled over it one more time. These guys port old Sierra quests (SQ, TQ, KQ, LSL, Black Cauldron) to Symbian enabled mobile phones.
Since I have one of these gadgets I have tried the Time quest demo and it was cool, just like in the old days. I'm definatelly looking forward to further releases (that is, should they obtain rights from Sierra).

So my questions are:

Any of you tried this and if so, how did you like it?
Do you think adventure games on cellphones have some future?
