I found this old webcam photo of me on an old backup cd. As you can see I was always a beard man.

Why not use some free ttf fonts you can find on the intertubes?
Or maybe http://www.americangirlscouts.org/agsresources/fonts.html is more to your liking. Or maybe look into the Font Editor on the tutorial page.

Quoteyou can get almost completely realistic music on a PC with MIDI.

The obvious problem here is that no two soundcard developers use the same instrument set (hell, quality differs widely between the sb16 and awe32), resulting in widely different playback quality.  These days, General MIDI is just not a logical choice for any musician who wants his music to sound the same for everyone.
Wasn't the first "plug-in" for ags some driver that made all the midi sound the same on every system? And by the way, what can be done with midi can also be done with modules.

And now for something completely different.

(We have a wiki?)

But these "ideals" are just personal opinions, not researched facts, conclusions and/or polls about design.

Character size:
I agree that Nelly is big, but I don't see the problem. She's a lot smaller than a character would appear in an animation or a film. Could it be that we are used to seeing tiny little character sprites, so this seems strange?
I didn't noticed how big the characters were untill Nelly started to block the items in the background that I wanted to interact with.
Guybrush in Monkey Island 3 is huge too but he's also very thin (even compared to the other characters) so he never blocks the background. I don't know if they did that on purpose but it works out.
But I can understand why you don't want to rescale the characters. It affects everything.

And the more I look at Loominous edit, the more the original screenshot bothers me.

Nice work, Densming. I've added them to my favourites.

The game runs suprisingly smooth. I honestly can't understand why commercial games like BS4 and Black Mirror can't pull that off while an indie game engine can. -Oh wait. I just figured out that the characters are still sprites.

Visual style: good- I don't mind the black outlines at all. I also don't mind 3d characters in hand drawn world.
Interface: good (as long as you played Full Throttle GUI games before)
Voices: I imagined Nelly's voice having a higher pitch, she is very petite after all. Accents are good.
Previous style to new style: No more rough pixel edges. Nelly looks huge!-  She fills up a large part of the screen.
System: Game runs perfect and I got a medium PC (build: 2004).

Interesting. This article digs a bit deeper behind the two cancelled FT sequals. They explain the plot summery and show some concept art I haven't seen before.

Damn, now I'd really like to play FT: Payback...

Petting a hungry cat is NEVER a spooky happening.

Ah BS4. Still collection dust on top of my pc. My computer can handle Oblivion and Half Life 2, yet moving the mouse in Broken Sword 4 is like wading through lead. WTF.
The screens has as much detail as an Unreal level. That was 10 years ago! And those levels are ten times bigger! WTF.

TIPS FOR MAKING ADVENTURE GAMES FOR THE MASSES (i.e. making adventure games main stream again):
1.) 2D, 2.5D or 3D it doesn't matter, the detail or characters, backgrounds and animations has to be detailed. Crazy detailed. Clothes have to be layered, characters need the right weight distribution and inertia when animated, backgrounds need to be detailed and dynamic, light and shadow too.
2.) No need for those weird arcade action sequances or what not. The pointing and the clicking is hard enough.
3.) Invest in music and sound. Voice actors too.
4.) Fast controlls and loading time. There isn't a ttime pressure and most of the time the character just wanders around, but when a player gets a brainstorm and want's to try something out in another room the character needs to get there lightning fast.
5.) Super crazy details. I mentioned this before but this is the most important tip if adventure games want to be main stream again.

edit: this and this seems to get the point.

Was it a remake or an original story? Was it parser or point-n-click?

I never understood these browser discussions. Everybody I know screams firefox. As if a webpage content suddenly becomes "better" when using firefox or chromeTM.
Whatever.

Well I have got an old laptop lying around (32 meg ram haha), and I found its sound card plays midis with a really old school feel -- almost like those of Lucasarts, but not exactly the same. Really similiar in fact. So what I was thinking of doing is sequencing the tracks in midi, loading them onto the laptop, then connecting a cable from the line out into the microphone port on my other pc, and recording them.
Quite a tedious method, but I was just wondering if there wasn't perhaps a software solution out there.
Windows has a Sound Recorder, you can set it on digital input or something and you'll record what the speakers play. You can change the quality or the recording too. Still tedious but in most cases it sounds better that with a cable (unless the system slows down because it's recording and playing...).

I once tried to record sound from my old computer to my protalbe radio with tape deck, then play it back and record it on my new computer. Horroble, horroble. And that was before mp3.

Oh man I've seen those bg's in that resource pack that you could download on the ags home page waaaaayyy back.

Abstauber, you could upload your backup to http://rapidshare.com

Camtasia might not be the best editing tool but I never had much problems with recording.
Set the recording screen at 320x240 (0,0). change your game so the cursor is hidden. set the game at full screen. if it looks negative set it on windowed. Produce video as avi.

Yes, lets never discuss adventure games again. It's just not worth it.
