I could repeat what most people already said. I think this game is a classic in spite of its flaws.

However, I just wanted to say that I played this game on Linux using Wine 0.9.40. It worked flawlessly. It's the first AGS I came play to conclussion with Wine while being able to load and save games.

However, Wine still doesn't work very well for AGS games that use the standard AGS load/save dialog. For some reason it won't respond to keyboard input.

The plot was transalte quickly with a translator. The translation form Saw 2 has been improved because 4 persons have worked in this game. Two of them have stayed living in England, other is from England and me.

Hola, Pedro. What came first, the chicken or the the egg?

I'm afraid to tell the English audience that the Spanish version of the plot, which I read on the game's website, looks like an automated translation of the English translation. In other words, it's also plagued with grammar mistakes and leaves your head spinning around trying to grasp the contents.

On the other hand, the game looks very interesting, from the images that I've seen on the website. Congratulations on finishing another full-length production, but gamers on this forum seem to take first impressions seriously and robot-written plot descriptions seem not to be attractive enough (unless we are dealing with a game about robots working at a plot-writing factory ― that would be awesome).

I am stuck at the begining, I am Jack aboard a horrid ship with some parrot food. What the heck do I do?

Look around closely...

Spoiler

There is a spot marked "hole" way below the water gush. I assume that's all you need, because I couldn't find it either, but once I knew it was there, the rest of the puzzle was obvious to me.

Now Jack and Elizabeth are marooned on the island. I've no idea how to find the rum supply. Jack doesn't want to walk out the jungle and there's nothing you can do. What the f I'm gonna do?!

Think what you would do in his place.

Hint:
Spoiler

What would you use to explore an unknown place?

Solution:

Use the compass on the jungle.

>:( Stuck again...
Sure the solution is to simple cause again there's no puzzle:

Spoiler

I'm on the interceptor with Will and a Navy Guard standing on the deck.
I can't do anything cause there's nothing to do ???...
Will, the Navy Guard & the Sea are the only active objects here.

Puh-lease hide the spoilers!

However, there is a puzzle this time. Don't forget that you are carrying around an inventory :)

Spoiler

You have to throw something into the sea. I don't remember what exactly, but you don't have many things anyway.

I'm stuck on the Interceptor when the Black Pearl catches up. I need to find more firewood. I've got the oars and the staff/stick but can't find other woody stuff. Got a lot of metal though plus some gun-powder.

People, please surround your spoilers with the hide tags...

Hint:
Spoiler

Look around more closely. Look again. Hey, one of the items has firewood *and* metal. I'm sure you can't burn metal, so why don't you get rid of it?

Solution:
Spoiler

Cut the shovel in two with the saw. Now you have more firewood and more metal.

Sorry about revealing some important stuff, I'll try the hiding next time.

So, it's possible to get stuck if doing something in a incorrect order? No reversal (apart from loading an older saved position)?

I don't know, you'll have to explore a bit more. But basically, what you did is all that there is to do at that point. Maybe Marion can add something?

I hope you kept frequent savegames, it will save you a lot of time. After 15 years of playing adventure games with one or, at most, two savegames, I finally learned that the hard way a few months ago, while playing a couple really buggy AGS games :)

I'm now hopping between two ships

Spoiler

managed to give to undead monkey a banana but nothing else. The crew is behind a locked door on the Black Pearl but the key I got from ghost pirate 4 doesn't open the door to the crew.

Eva, please enclose your questions between [ hide ] and [ /hide ] (without the spaces) so you don't spoil it for the people who haven't gotten that far, yet.

It seems that you are not doing anything wrong (see that I asked a similar question above and you'll find the answer I got). However, you don't really need to hop around if you get the yellow item that you mentioned from the first ship before going to the second. Maybe that will help? I also didn't give away said item until after having tried to open the door first.

I hope that helps.

After getting Jack out of prisson, somehow I can't
manage to get of the island/on the interceptor.

Your right , now I feel stupid...

Ah, you shouldn't. That "puzzle" caught me off-guard, too.

Marion, I was very confused by the fact that the water that gushes from the hole is selectable for an action, so I couldn't find the hole on my own. I had to read these hints to make sure the hole existed (and it took me a while to find it even then), even though I was already on the right track to solve the puzzle. I noticed that some other objects in the game were also selectable, but had no actions nor name/title defined (e.g., water gush, behind the parrot food sack in the same boat and a couple other I don't remember now).

I just finished the game and I liked it (see my comment in the AGS database entry).

However, the user interface needs work. Not a lot, but as it is, it manages to get many things wrong without bringing anything new to the table.

Sometimes you can use the "pick up" command to grab objects, but some other times you need to "use" them to pick them up. The default actions are not very good most of the time, such as you "looking at doors" instead of opening them, and not getting any interesting response from the first action anyway. Also "talk" being  the default action performed on all characters, whereas 95% of the time the player character will just say "I don't want to talk." Finally, it would be nice if the status text were written in just one language, and not in Frenchglish, e.g., "prender the sword" (spelling?).

And last, but not least, thanks!

Off topic: what game is the art from the Star Wars area of LucasManiac! from?

What do I do when I've reached Elizabeth and the ghosts? I've tried everything I can think of to distract them, tried every item on each of them and also tried combining items but nothing seems to work.

I found this one pretty illogical, too. Especially since the character ends up contradicting himself.

Spoiler

Just talk to Barbarossa... which contradicts the character's reply when you try to talk to Elizabeth.

Now you are close to where I'm stuck, I hope you can help me :)

Maggie, this one is not obvious at all. In a stroke of luck I managed not to get stuck for than 30 seconds on this one, but it was one of those moments when you feel that it could have taken a visit to the forums otherwise.

Hint:
Spoiler

What does Jack say when you try to return the sword?
It seems Jack wants to do something else with it, and who knows one or two things about swords?

Solution:

Give it to your partner. He is a blacksmith.

Still, the solution is not very blacksmith-y, but... hey, there is a three-headed monkey behind you!

I'm stuck as Elizabeth on the deck of the ghost ship for the second (or third? time).

Spoiler

What do I do to get the prison key for "Ghost pirate 4?" I gave the monkey a banana, but that didn't seem to help. I went back to the other ship and I got another rope and bra, but I couldn't do anything with it either.

Thanks.

Ich gebe auf!
I'm stuck at the beginning.
Spoiler

I have one diary, the Luckenöffner@, the eight Knoppers, the pillow, the milk with sock (not sour), a charged phone (no PIN) and the flashlight. I don't know how to make any progress from here. Any help will be appreciated.

I'm stuck...

Spoiler

How do you get to the backup network? It says I should know the IP address if I have the proper clearance, but I don't know how to find it. I have the leech, lan_fool and password cracker programs.

I've read somethin about tracers, but I couldn't find any information about them inside the game.

Bug-free? Not yet, I'm afraid - see below.

I'm fairly sure this is the Gold version I'm playing.

For what it's worth, I just downloaded the GoldD version. Maybe you've got an earlier Gold version? Maybe it rusted?

Note that I had a Gold version without the extra D on my harddisk. I also haven't played the game, yet, so I can't confirm whether the bug exists or not in the GoldD version.

Make sure you have downloaded and extract the the midi patches file I talk about on this page to your game's directory:

http://drevil.warpcore.org/ags/faq.html

Hey Shawn, I'm afraid that the new engine (or maybe it's Allegro?) is looking for the MIDI patches not in the local directory, but in /usr/share/timidity/patches/patches.dat (thanks to strace). Is there a way to revert that behavior to that of the older versions?

I can also confirm that the engine starts on an up-to-date Debian/unstable now :-) Still haven't tried any games, though, but I trust that would work as well.

Also, are you still unable to use the ALSA driver of Allegro? Even with Timidity running as an ALSA MIDI server/client/whatyoumaycallit, AGS won't use that, because it insists on openning /dev/snd/midi*, which don't exist here. Still Timidity run this way seems to be good enough for dosbox and other apps.

Best luck.
