The problem, at least for some of us, is that he's compiling against a more recent glibc than is bundled with our systems. Including glibc this way might or might not work, but it will definitely be a very large download in comparison.

Woody has the super club, obviously. You need to beat him to a golf game. Maybe you should take a few shots of practise at the driving range.

Where do i find a better club?
Is it the wooden club above the bar? ( which i can't reach anyway )

Spoiler
The better club is in plain view, but it's not the wooden one. Maybe you need to talk some more to the other characters in order to find out who'd have a super golf club.

How do i hit Mary? Lula's head is on the way. I even aimed the silver plate but only managed to hit Bobby.

I never liked that hideous silver plate myself. If I had the guts to, I would redecorate the bar.

None of the platforms you mentioned are that great with forwards compatibility, for what it's worth. I've heard you can't expect much backwards compatibility from Windows Vista nor Mac OS's in general.

Although Ubuntu is probably what I'd use if I didn't use Debian, I'm quite happy with the latter for now. But thanks anyway!

Actually, they are great with forwards compatibility. Sorry, I swapped the forwards and backwards earlier :)

Really? So you say that a program compiled for Windows XP will run on Windows 95? Or a Windows 95 application will run on Windows 3.1? Let's not even suggest the dready Windows 2.0 or 1.x. I'm not sure, but many applications targeted to Windows 3.1 probably didn't work on Windows 3.0, without its truetype and printer spooler support. Of course, I doubt you can get any of the latter to run in a modern computer without too much pain.

Apple never cared about backwards compatibility at all, and much less forward compatibility, so I don't see your point. I don't know much about Solaris, so I'll have to take your word for that one.

Anyways, this is all off topic. I hope glibc 2.5 gets into Debian/unstable soon, or Wine gets better supporting AGS, now that they finally seem to have fixed DirectInput.

Some of us have completed the game a couple times already, perhaps if you didn't ask him directly you could get more help ;)

now I have questions,
Spoiler
I only have 2 drinks, a beer and a glass of wine, bartender won't give me coffee, tea, water, whisky, spirits, scotch, etc. what's the 3rd drink?
Also, I can't seem to get how to get the girl to the match. If I give her the flowers first, she follows me and it won't let me go to Tiger to challenge him for the match, If I challenge Tiger first it won't let me go give the girl the flowers. I've got to be missing a step, but what  ???

Spoiler

The third drink might not be very important. I think the manual lists them all.

Regarding Lula, I wish I could say I can't get girls to stop following me. However, thanks to her auntie's obstinacy she is very obedient and will accept your word for it, if you tell her that she has to stay and wait.

Same here. Glad to see this finally released, and I know you'll hate me/us for asking, but is it possible to link statically against glibc for now? As strazer said, Debian only includes the new libc on experimental and it's not going to enter unstable at least for a while. Definitely not until after the release of etch and the chaos ensuing right afterwards.

Edit: oh, well, I think it's not that bad to setup a chroot environment with Debian experimental to run AGS, is it? :)

I did, to be honest ;) I got stuck about three times while playing, so I agree it's tough at some points.

You need to create a distraction for him. It also seems that the Earl is not such a good golf player after all, and he might require some interdisciplinary help.

Remember, the puzzles ARE logical, but the game is quite absurd, so play with that in mind.

OK, I've stumbled my way through the puzzling world of Earl Bobby on my own till now, but I'm stuck.
Spoiler

I got the canvass on the mole hill/ crater, but it says I don't have enough tees to tie it down. I've picked up the tee guards also but I can't combine them with the tees and I don't have enough of them to tie down the canvass either, am I missing something??

Please use [ hide ] to hide the parts of your messages that contain spoilers.

If the Earl says he doesn't have enough of those, then yes, you must be missing something :) It suffices to say that they're all in plain view.
#153
Do you always use your right hand to scratch your left ear? :)

Not only is this harder on the developer on different levels, but it also doesn't address CJ's concern of disabling this feature for the final release.

Edit by strazer: No need to quote the whole post directly above yours!

Yes, this was a tricky puzzle and I also needed hints to complete it. Don't forget to ask everyone about everyone else. Sometimes they'll give you a piece of useful insight (however, some hints are not obvious, so use your imagination a bit).

There is deliberately no feature to do this, because game developers tend to want to be in control of translations that get released for their games.

If you could just compile one yourself, then people could start releasing unofficial translations of games, and the game developer would have no control over the quality of these, and so on. Therefore, it has been a deliberate request that users are not able to compile the translation themselves.

What if this were only available for debug builds or something along those lines? I don't want to compile the translation, I just want to be able to check my changes without having to go through the developer each time I make a few modifications.

Can't you run it at all in Mono (on linux)? I don't know how good the forms support is currently, that was very much in progress when I last looked at it.

I haven't looked at it that way. For now, it's a Windows application and doesn't run on Linux like that (no .Net-support in Wine), it would need to be ported and I can only hope someone will do that someday.

No, you are wrong. Mono is not a Windows application. Not only was it actually started by "UNIXers," but it even runs on Windows. Try it for yourself: http://www.mono-project.com/ (already packaged by Debian and other distributions). It might mean that we don't need to use Wine anymore to run the editor.

Hi,

I'm currently proofreading a translation for a soon-to-be-released game, and I'd like to try the corrected translation as I go. Is it possible to use the raw translation file to that end instead of having to send it to the developer every time? It would really help to see that dialogs have good cadence (i.e., that the characters don't repeat each others' words, etc.) and so I can progressively test each screen as I go, without bothering the developer all the time.

If this is not currently possible, could it be implemented?

Thanks a lot.
