I've been using this lately:

http://www.free-codecs.com/download/K_Lite_Codec_Pack.htm
- Freeware media player with support for most audio formats. Uses a windows classic media player interface. Very simple and not bloated.

You just need to click add game, navigate to the directory that FotAQ is in and add it.

I'm willing to bet you are actually opening the directory that FotAQ is located in. Don't open it, just highlight the folder that it is located in and click choose.

That should solve your problem.

Good luck!

HELP!!!!!!!!!!! YOUR POST IS TOTALLY UNHELPFUL!1!1!one!  ;)

How about you try that again in a less frantic manner.

What game are you trying to get to run?

What is the exact problem you are having?

Have you checked the ScummVM website and readme's?

I use ScummVM a lot, and I think many others on here do to. Just let us know what is going on and we'll help out.

So, I finally saw F. 9/11 yesterday. I was very pleased. I'm really not sure how anyone is going to say much about Moore "fudging" facts. Most of it was interviews with people and stock footage prooving his points. I'm sure some things will be picked apart but, whatever. The movie, as a film, was VERY well done. At one point, using stock footage, Moore has a scene from 9/11 that is almost beautiful, it's just so well done. I honestly didn't learn much from the movie that I hadn't already learned on the web. I'm sure most of it is stuff that your typical American is unaware of. The film has my thumbs up and five stars and all that hoopla. The audience I was with applauded at the end of the film. Oh, and my favorite "quote" from the movie:

"If this were a dictatorship, it'd be a heck of a lot easier..."
       - The President of the United States of America, George W. Bush

I dug around a bit and found it quoted on several sources, including CNN, oh, and in the movie, there is video footage. So, it's not something Moore made up or fudged. I found this on the web:

http://www.cnn.com/TRANSCRIPTS/0012/18/nd.01.html

"If this were a dictatorship, it'd be a heck of a lot easier, just so long as I'm the dictator."
     - George W. Bush

Oh, and Mr.C and Sutebi, by chance could you start a new topic with your discussion. I know I have contributed to this thread going off topic a lot...but, now that the movie is out (and will be out on the...9th? in the UK) it would be nice to see some proper discussion on it. Thanks. ;D

QuoteI don't want to reelect Bush either, but is this the.. er..Ã,  SAFEST way to fix things?
No. I don't think so.

I agree that the whole conservative vs. liberal thing is a little carried away. Attacking Michael Moore isn't going to solve anything just as much as liberals attacking Bush. I mean, I can't stand the guy and all, but investing so much money to talk trash about him is a little counter productive.

On the other hand if Moore's original point was to make the nation aware of the Bush-Bin Laden connection, then I think that's okay. Problem is he's taken it up as a crusade to "remove Bush from power". Or at least that is the spin the media is putting on it.

I think Kerry has the right idea. Stand around and don't say much of anything and let Bush get himself voted out of office. I'm not sure if it's working though. As little as I currently like Kerry I can't really say I'm 100% ready to throw my vote his way. Right now the only reason I would vote for Kerry is to vote Bush out. But, I don't need Michael Moore for that, and neither do most of the Americans that would agree with his movie. Really all Moore is doing is making those that are on the fence with Bush just go ahead and stand firm on his side(Bush's).

Once again though, I don't think this was Moore's original intention, I think the media and fame has turned his point into something else. Maybe I'm wrong.

EDIT: I just wanted to point out this article. I found it a bit shocking. (WARNING, there is a picture from the prisoner abuse at the link which is somewhat disturbing.) http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/world/americas/3834089.stm

I'm just confused as to why my country needs immunity from a war crimes court?

LOL!

I forgot all about the 13 year old's dressing like whores thing. I try to block that out as much as possible. I think that ties into my whole feminism rant. Those whore-sluts who lip-sync are young women's role models!? WTF?

Interesting idea.

[disclaimer]I will answer this thread on one condition. It is to be understood that these are my personal opinions and are based on my experiences as an American. If you think I am wrong then you are wrong from the outset, because these are my opinions and I am not pretending to be stating facts.[/disclaimer]

QuoteDo you really make that "parties" in the funerals, american guys?
Of the funerals I attended while growing up, I must say many of them felt more like a really serious family reunion rather than a funeral. We had dinner for three days, went to the "viewing" and after the funeral had another large dinner. At the funeral home we all sat in the lounge area. Everyone talked, drank coffee, and smoked cigarettes. While I don't know about "parties", I could easily see how this would be interpeted as a party of sorts.

QuoteDo you really shake the hand of the girls? We kiss them twice!
Unfortunately...Yes. Women's Lib in America is severely screwed up right now. In the 80's women went to work. The wore these funny penis shaped "woman ties" and joined the "man's" working force. They in turn raised children with a head for work, success, and college. This was good for the women of the 80's But, let me tell you, as a Male growing up in the 90's, parts of it sucked. Women of the 90's took ideas of feminism too far. Men couldn't open doors for women, kiss a girls hand, or say "ladies first" without being a sexist pig. The result of this is really sad. In the late 90's the new generation of women started rejecting feminism. It became a word associated with big burly stereotypical "dykes". So, women began to sink back into more submissive roles. As a whole generation it is much more pampered. Kids, male and female now live at home into their 20's. Growing up for me it was always, "18 and your out the door bub". Respect for women continues to decline on a more popular and general scale in America. I can only hope that the cycle will repeat itself and eventually women will shake off the stereotypes that hold them back.

QuoteDo you really know guys who carry guns to school?
Yes. This is just a fact of life. Growing up in Flint it was even more of a fact of life. I went to a very rough high school. No one was shot in my high school, however someone was stabbed to death. A girl at a prom was shot in the back of the head.

I also had this super christian friend who's mom hated me. She decided that I was having a bad influence on him with my "Heavy Metal". So, I was told I couldn't hang out with him. Well, he started listening to gangster rap instead, without her knowledge. About a year later he was kicked out of school because he was caught with a gun in his locker. One of those little victories in life for me. I have never carried a gun. Guess Metallica ain't so bad after all huh? Bitch.

American's eat Hamburgers, talk on cell phones excessively, and drive SUV's. I work at a cafe next to a ballet school. These sick "Ballet mom's", as we call them, fit this stereotype to a tee. They are all obsessed with the Atkins diet (LOW CARBS!!!), even though none of them are fat. They are loud and disrespectful. They seem to have cell phones glued to their ears. Really disgusting stereotypical Americans. It's sad to know that generalizations are based on something real. Oh, and of course these are the only types of Americans that can actually afford to travel to Europe and the rest of the world regularly, thus adding to the general horrible image of Americans. We call this creature "Yuppie". People like me hate this creature and all that it stands for.

I'm sure more Americans will rant more.

On another note Farlander. You have mentioned anti-Americans lately. You must understand the current state of our culture to understand where that is coming from. We have become very selfish. Everything is about "ME", the only catch is you have to make it look like it's about everyone else, but it's really about "ME". It's a disease that is eating America from the inside. Our drivers drive more aggressively, our politicians become more corrupt, and our patriotism becomes more and more plastic.

I bitch about these things because I am not content to sit back and just let it happen. If I were not anti-American I would be Un-American. I want the best for my nation and I do not believe we are on that path. So many Americans are apathetic about everything. They are content to let their freedom slip away. If these stupid terrorists launch one more attack within our borders we will become a "Patriot Act" nation. It will not only be the end of our freedom but the end of every Arab nations freedom. With this as my possible future, I do not like the current state of America. So, if I seem a little anti-American, just remember, I fight for my nation ever day by not being an "American".

QuoteYou can imagine, but in my case, you're wrong.
You are one of the very few.

Quotebut your insinuations that our textbooks are tainted with propaganda are frankly rude
NO! Wrong. It's not rude, it is true. As you said, in your case he is wrong. American textbooks are filled with propaganda. Take a look at other text books, not just the ones you were privilaged enough to read. My text books in High School were filled with American Propaganda, and even more in college are filled with it. I think you are being a little harsh and close minded there Shbaz :). Perhaps I've missed some other part of the conversation, and if so, just ignore me. The topic has strayed a bit from Michael Moore.

Speaking of which, didn't c.leks lock this!?

Thanks for that article DG, it was pretty cool to read that. Good stuff.

QuoteNah, purple was for the emperor to wear.

Yeah, I found too many conflicting sources on this, so most likely I won't be using purple at all. Besides, I believe the year may dictate that.

I'm am about 90% positive that I will be setting it in the Republic around 80 BC or so. This is simply because I am reading Steven Saylor's Roman Blood at the moment and the detail that he gives is crazy good. Between that and a bookshelf filled with books on Ancient Rome and a stack of about 10 from the library, I think I have a pretty good mound of material to pull from. For some reason I always read more about consuls than emperors anyway. Emperors are a really tired subject when it comes to Ancient Rome.

I'm also not setting this in Rome, I'm setting it in a large fictional city outside of Rome. This way I won't get buried in technical details about the city.

QuoteWhat kind of game are you using them for?
It is going to be an adventure game drawn in planometric style. Inspired by Darth Mandarb's JP and Cosmo.

thanks for the link, I had found that site in my initial searches, the image at the top of the page was used for most of my clothing!

Added one with the purple stripe. I run into a lot of conflicting sources with the purple stripe. Some say that only emperors were allowed to wear purple. From what I was able to find there was a special office that was able to wear purple. Most wore red stripes. I will have to look into that some more.

These are character templates for a project I'm working on. The setting is, obviously, Ancient Rome. Mainly I want to know if I have the clothing correct. I am a bit concerned about the female matron. Something doesn't look right. I'm thinking of making the toga part colored and the tunic white...Most stola's I've seen look similiar to this, I think.

Thanks,

Wow. Great pictures (especially for a disposable!)

You are a lucky bastard. How cold does it get there in the winter (in Sydney/the south). I guess I knew it was winter there now, kind of screws with my head though. All of you silly "living upside down" people. So, let me get this straight, the idea was to find crocs...you are a fruit loop. Sounds exciting though.

So how hard is it to get citizenship in Australia?

Great stuff Timosity, thanks for sharing. I now hate Ohio even more :P

Are you running Windows 95 OSR2? If not then even if you find a card it won't help you. You have to have an operating system that supports USB. Odds are the hardware won't either. I may be wrong about that, PCMCIA cards can do some wonderful things. Problem is finding one that will work with it may be near impossible.

What are you trying to connect to via USB? You should be able to find a parallel port version of the same thing.

I totally missed the request for an emulator:

Steem with Brataccas
#136
-Dialogue in boxes appearing letter by letter.
-Jumping/pushing/running with different button presses.
-A 'stopping' animation after the player stops running (like skidding)

These things are the ones that would be slightly harder to script.

Everything else should be fairly easy.

Basically the general answer to your question is always "anything can be done in AGS" and it is true. However, it's true only with a really good grasp of scripting. So, I recommend that you try out a few simple adventure games first.

You may want to check out Scorpiorus's CCS system for NPC's.

For arcade style movement you will want to check out 2ma2's open source Platformerius game

good luck.

Isegrim: You might want to check out my Brataccas site HERE

Nice to see some Atari ST folks here...

Games I played and loved on the ST:

-Brataccas
-Black Lamp
-Typhoon Thompson
-Sundog
-King's Quest I, II, and III
-Police Quest
-LSL I
-Space Quest I & II
-Strider
-Defender of the Crown
-Mouse Trap
-Ikari Warriors
and more, but those are the ones I really remember...

I played a lot of Genesis stuff...for some reason that doesn't feel nostalgic-like when I go back and play it...Just the ST stuff.

Sounds like I missed something earlier this year... ::)

Sorry to continue to take the subject off topic...

At the http://www.mega-tokyo.com/forum/ forums each posters IP address is displayed where the "IP Logged" thing is displayed on these forums. Perhaps it is a mod worth installing? I'm not sure if Chris is aware of the MOD or would even be interested in it. After all, Andy Penis wouldn't exist if we had something like this. ;D

QuoteHeh but this makes no sense! If we did that people would have said "Now we're stuck making a game set in a town!"

No! :D I mean do it now, not if you had done it instead of. I'm talking about expanding IG.

For me IG allowed me to learn how to import things into AGS, so having characters .cha files would kind of take that away. How is anyone ever going to learn? They already don't have to create their own graphics. That type of person doesn't have the dedication to finish a quality game anyway.

Regarding the PCX thing, I can't imagine that there isn't something out there that is free that would open them. However, I think since BMP is more widely available it would probably be better to convert them to it.

So, Eric, do you intend on doing any more with IG? Or are you just wondering why there is such little use of it?

Insta Game is the reason I use AGS today.

I used that silly little alien and his little cave to create a small game where the character walked from one cave to the other.

That's it. Nothing else ever happened in my little game. Now, while many feel compelled to release works of art such as this...I did not.

Without something so easily accessable where I could import the backgrounds and characters and start to understand the basics of AGS I doubt I would have ever started using it. My little "demo" game looked really good (to me) and took only about an hour or so to make. The fact that it looked "good" is probably the reason I stuck with AGS.

On the other hand There was one problem with insta game. Unless if you were making a space game you were rather stuck.

I would love to see an insta game 2 where you have a basic male schmo, female schmo-et, with basic walk animations, and a basic small town for them to walk around in. I think this could open up the possibilities a little.

I guess my point is, I consider InstaGame to be more a part of AGS than even the real demo game. So it has served a great purpose for me. It has been in my sig since as long as I have known what a sig was. So, thank you Eric and Sylpher, and please, make another one ;) It will get used. Just because you don't always see it doesn't mean it doesn't help people out.

InstaGame changed my life!

:P
