Not that it matters...but why the HELL did that work!!?? ;D

Thanks foz.

I figured it would be a simple solution...but that simple? Heh.

I would be most interested in your enemy AI. Heck, would you be interested in sharing all of the source with me? You would most definately earn a place in the credits.

Thanks for the star solution to, I'm going to give it a go.

thanks,

I have begun work on my new project which will allow for jumping from Adventure style gameplay to Platformer style gameplay. I am, of course, using 2ma2's Platformerius: the Ninja Incident as a base. I have put together this small demo:

http://www.juncmodule.com/AGSfolder/ADVPLTsample.zip

It is a mostly functioning version of what I want. However I am having problems with the Platform part (imagine that ::)). I extended the length of the room from 320 to 960 and things got all funky. Mainly with the hotspots, in game they are not where they appear in the editor. Very odd, but I assume a simple scripting tweak will fix it.

I would also like to make the "star" disappear once it gets about 100 or 200 pixels away from the character. Currently it travels to the end of the screen before going away, and you can't fire again until it's gone(which is fine, I just want it to go away sooner).

My final thing to tackle, which I haven't even touched yet, is enemies. They will be pretty dumb. Just run from right to left shooting. Some will just stand and shoot. I will wait until I have basic gameplay taken care of before I try this though.

Okay, so the point of this thread:

A. Get help with these problems here.
B. Get someone to join the project and provide help by email. A co-scripter ;D.

Sorry for the "help wanted" flavored thread, but if someone doesn't join me, I still need help, as I will try to tackle these problems myself. Just so you know, I've been pounding at the misplaced hotspots and star thing for several days before posting here.

Thanks,

Quote6) Be able to save with errors…sometimes we don't have time to debug it when we have to leave the computer!
Plz.. Plz... Lol... How about a box like Do you want to correct it now? And you have the choice to save anyway.
I did a lot of work on some interfaces once  and made an error in one of them, I couldnt save cos of it and I oculdn't find the error. So I lost all my work when I had to go.

That's insane, just comment out your new code dude!!

Anyway, I do agree that there should be an option, not something automatic. Could you maybe add a checkbox in the settings to disable this. I see why others would find this useful, but I would get annoyed by a box that asked me every time.

ahh, I see. That makes more sense.

From my first impression (mainly just looking at an image and reading a little on it), I would say that the 550 would be a good "lower end" version of it.

Have you looked at the $500 range Rolands? They have a few decent ones too.
#206
If you can afford a Tyros WHY on earth would you consider a 550!?

Honestly the Tyros would be a waste of money. If you are going to buy that just pick up a Triton LE with some expansion boards. Or with ALL of that insane money pick up a nice Roland controller with weighted keys (around $500) and a really nice sound module (around $1000).

Timosity, you have way too many HD and way too many upgradeable OS's ;D

Okay, I REALLY don't recommend keeping the stuff you are trying to keep on any of the drives you will eventually format. That is REALLY risky. One screw up in the "copy from one drive to the other" process and it's gone forever. If you can't back it all up on CD another drive or whatever I would seriously consider removing the drive from the case. I've done this in the past because I don't trust myself.

Anyway, your plan sounds good, and yes install 98SE over 98 before adding Win2000. You will be able to install WIN2000 in FAT32, and then XP in FAT32, it will give you an option.

After you install Win2000 it will give you a bootup screen to choose your OS from. Upgrading XP from Win2K gets tricky here. I've never done that, so I assume you will want to select the option to replace 2K, but be careful and make sure it doesn't try to replace 98.

TK: Format both for FAT, Partition the 98 portion with a minimum of 500MB, I would recommend something more like 5GIGS. So long as it isn't less than 500MB you are okay. If you format for FAT you will be able to use the other 75GB from within 98.

I have tried to use it. It just doesn't feel right. I just couldn't make the transition. I can produce better art with just the mouse. I have been drawing with a mouse for years, so it's not much of a surprise.

If you want to think about it for a few days that's fine. We can also find an alternative way to tell your mom.

If your not cool with it though, I understand, it makes sense.

But, if you would still like to take some photos of Ireland and post them here that would be great.

Ding, Ding, DING!!

LGM gets it...now will Yufster?

Jeez...

Okay, here's the deal:

First: The camera isn't that bad. Besides, you obviously feel bad that you don't like it...sort of. So, first thing, give the camera a chance.

Second: I want pictures of Ireland. Streets, country side, nice buildings.

Third: Go give your mom a hug. It was a really nice thought and she probably thinks she was doing something really big for you. Photography=ART. Maybe she just doesn't understand. Mom's can be that way. Just be grateful that she's trying.

If you do these things I will send you my Wacom tablet. I've never used it in the three years I've owned it. So, someone might as well get use out of it.

It's a little one, but it works great. When you get a nicer one, send it back to me. It's like a rental. Due to our massive age difference and the whole scary interaction with people on the internet thing I would appreciate it if you ran this by your parents first. If they want they can contact me and discuss it.

Happy birthday.

Yufster, you should pay attention more.

Do you care what kind of Wacom you get?

This surprise is slowly starting to slip away...
#211
What kind of Wacom are you wanting? Do you have your heart set on a specific one, or will any do?

Will you maybe use the camera at some point...Digital cameras can be really cool...

Be sure you respond to this...I might have a surprise for you.

LOL!

how the hell do you know those names! Please god tell me you looked that up...and why do I recognize those names.... :-\

EDIT: Wait...I'm stupid, nevermind...

I thought those were that names of the carpenter and stunt man before the movie advert/anti-piracy thingy...

Wait a minute...this is funny: http://www.datelinehollywood.com/showarticle.php?articleID=110

Movies. They're Not Worth It!

I didn't know that happened. It's funny though, of all of the piracy out there I oppose movie piracy more than music or software piracy. Music makes a close second to what I oppose. I can't say I oppose software piracy though. $50 for a piece of software is enough. People talk about effort put into software...what about game companies that develop realistic physics engines, lighting, AI, etc., that MUST take just as much if not more effort than developing Photoshop!!?? Right? Yet hundreds of dollars seperate the two products. Hmm...

Software. It's Not Worth It!

Holy edited post Batman!

OH, and that's the other thing! If you want to have access to files between OS's DON'T format for NTFS when installing XP!

Also, LGM, doesn't XP take care of that during install? Formatting it's own partition to NTFS? I might be wrong...

Oh, and Timosity, forgive me if you know this, but it sounds like you might be new to this so I will explain it:

NTFS is a SUPER stable file system. Excellent to work with. I have heard of a lot of people having compatibility problems with software that may or may not be tied to NTFS. If you use a lot of older programs you "MIGHT" run into problems (that's a pretty big might, I think it's anti-NTFS propaganda).

FAT32 is a not so super stable. BUT, Win98 can only read FAT32, not NTFS. I might be wrong but I think XP can read FAT32. So, keep that in mind when XP gives you the option to format to NTFS.

EDIT: My personal opinion: Format for FAT, not NTFS. I know that NTFS is better, but, XP is soooo stable. I very, very rarely have any sort of crash on my (P)FAT XP installation. ::)

I'm not sure if there is a specific one that you are "forced" to install first. Boyd was talking about XP/Linux dual boot and since Linux needs two partitions I'm sure that caused problems. I would follow Toefur's advice.

Oh, and LGM is right too, you aren't "forced" to partition either if you have two drives. I have a removable HD one with 98 one with XP (those are cheap now!)

Also, if you do partition, don't use that partition magic crap. You are more likely to screw something up that way. FDISK is just fine, and too easy to use to screw anything up. Just make sure you only make the two partitions and that they are the right size. If you mess up, or think you messed up redo it before exiting the program. I'm about 99% positive nothing happens until you exit.

I have always done 98 first and XP second. Just be careful and read everything on the screen. Remember, if you screw up, just reformat it, repartition it, and do it right. Nothing is going to get broken by FDISKing and Formating.

good luck,

For what you are looking for I would say something between a Yamaha S03 or the PSR-540. Both are in the $500 range and well worth the money.

The S03 lacks and internal sequencer but has the entire XG library, an enhanced XG library, plus about another 100 or so sounds. The sounds are very very close to the S80 sounds (a $1000+ keyboard). It also comes with synth software (XG Works w/a plugin) or you can edit directly on the keyboard. Great keyboard, I really regret selling mine.

The PSR-540 is a lower end keyboard, however it has a lot of nice features. Has an internal sequencer with a floppy drive that can read from or save to midi format. Has the entire XG library as well as some enhanced XG sounds. No real synthesis ability. An excellent stand alone, but will work for all of your MIDI needs as well. My girlfriend uses this and makes some pretty great stuff on it.

If you are not willing to spend $500, well, you might be screwed. Keep in mind, those are brand new prices. Used you might be able to find one of those for cheaper.

You could go the super cheap route and just find some generic GM compatible casio or even yamaha for $100 to $200, but you WILL be able to notice that sound quality sucks (if you are into that sort of thing).

PS: I'm rather Yamaha biased because
A: It's what I try to use
B: They cater to low budget users
C: Roland has good and cheap "Groove" gear, but not much for the budget Synth user

I am in the process of searching for a SP-808, if anyone has one I will buy it off of you. Seriously, I need one NOW. Stupid ebay people and the not using Buy-it-now...bastards.

OH

MY

GOD!

I bought a Gamecube a few weeks ago and a XBOX yesterday. I was beginning to regret the GC until I saw that trailer. HOLY CRAP, that is beautiful.

What is the release date...?
EDIT: I see a 2005 release date at nintendo.com...bummer. Long wait, I'm sure it will be worth it though.

Scuthbert: Crap. I left those out. Is it possible to extract them without it being a pain in the ass though?

Well...all of them.

I'm sure I have various issues on various back up disks but that would suck.

So if you could just put them all together, zip them up or something...

thanks,

@Vel: Thanks Vel, that sounds like a good idea. Is there someplace I can find all of the back issues? I went to your site and found the site that Darth Mandarb made, but the back issues do not appear to be intact.

@Mats: I wouldn't worry much about MI1 or 2, I already have Elaine and Guybrush which are really enough from those games, maybe The Vodoo lady and Largo. Just keep in mind I'm looking for two guys and two girls from each game, and don't forget what I already have up at juncSource. Thanks for all your help on this.

It's funny, when I first started getting into editing SCUMM games I couldn't find any of the software anywhere. Now it just seems to come out of the woodwork. Nice to see that I'm not the only person hosting this stuff though, I don't think enough people are aware that it exists.

I never even knew that ScummRevisited 3 existed until you put it up on your site Scummbuddy, I always thought it was just 1 and 2. Same with Costume Viewer 2.

SteveMcCrea: Thanks! That will be up, great plug-in by the way.

Mats: Yup, I got him, thanks. Don't extract too much from one game though, I want to keep the content diverse.

I appreciate all of the help everyone is providing. Very cool. I'm going to wait a week or so until the suggestions stop coming in. Once I have lots of material built up I will begin to redesign the page.
