He means in the actual script editor.

Isn't the script editor open source?

Isn't there another script editor that someone here made? I searched the AGS resources and download pages and couldn't find it.

I seem to recall when you were working on this. The finished products look great, I will check out the rest in a bit. I'm not in need of it right at the moment, but I will need to compile a manual for my current project once it is finished. Could be weeks away, could be months. I'm still waiting for some people to get back to me on some character sprites so I can complete all of the art.

On yet ANOTHER unrelated note, any new developments with AE? I posted a question about it in the tech forum but it slid away somewhat unnoticed I imagine.

Goldmund: I agree, for a game that you play for five minutes, it's pretty silly. But, for a project like Fatman or FoY I can see how the developers would want to package it nicely. However when someone makes a one room one puzzle game and says that SuperDuperMegaGames, Inc. DEVELOPED this 1337 game...well...I agree.

EDIT: 22.9MB!!! Ouch...this will have to wait...

On a related note...Do you know of any free help file creators? .CHM Format preferred. I have one that creates a more simple help file...but it looks like poo ;D

I agree that can be a pain in the butt. Any other suggestions?

I think I finished it:

I will have to include a manual with the game on how to use it I think. Basically, you log on using a access code(IP Address). Then you must use the decryptor to break the password to the system you are hacking. Once inside you must have your Trace Blocker on. The system you are hacking will begin to Trace you. Visually you must move your yellow Node (on the green grid) to an open port (a blue one) to access data. Red ports are ports that are being monitored by the System Security Node. These change as you are acquiring data. You must move about the grid avoiding the Security node in order to slow down the trace time. If the trace time reaches zero you are kicked off the system and lose any data you have acquired during that session.

Let me know what you think!

Ptraci: Although I have BASS I have never completed it. I REALLY need to, I have heard nothing but good things about it and the little I have played is really nice.

Las: Looks like instead of Tetris, I went with Q-bert :P.

EDIT: Oh yeah, Mr. C, thanks for the Uplink suggestion, very inspiring stuff. And Panda, although I didn't like Decker I did use the grid idea. Thanks guys!

Hmmm...I agree that SSH Development is the best. Perhaps SSH-Dev.com if it is available.

Do you have a host yet? I strongly recommend:

http://www.totalchoicehosting.com/

After domain registration it's only $5 a month. The best deal for your money I've ever seen. LOTS of bandwidth and storage space (10GB and 500MB). They do automatic billing from your bank account and since I have had them have NEVER been down. Very friendly people, 24hour online live tech support.

good luck,

I almost cried when Ironhide died.

He was my favorite autobot.

Starscream sucked. I wanted him to die.

Soundwave is just the baddest ass Decepticon ever. Of course he didn't die.

I always hated the "new" Megatron (Galvafuck).

The movie and killing off characters is nothing compared to that horrible atrocity that is Beast Wars. What a waste of a perfectly good toy line.

Toys the rocked when I was a kid:
Star Wars (Not including Jedi)
G.I. Joe
Transformers
Army Ants (I bet nobody knows what those are)

I tried watched GI Joe the movie lately. That SUCKED. I didn't make it through it. Transformers the movie holds up pretty well, that is if you can block out the soundtrack.

Alynn: duh! Shadowrun...why didn't I think of that....I will have to check out how they did the Sega Genesis version...now where'd I put that emulator...?

Eric: Downloading the demo now, looks interesting.

Panda: Checking it out now.

Thanks folks!

Well...I'm talking about hacking a bank. Not Joe Schmoe's computer.

Besides, what fun would there be in a miniGame if all you had to do is type in one number ;D.

I'm thinking of a visual way to get past security points, enter a access code, navigate a maze of sorts, hide from the security scanner...you know...all TRON like.

PS: IP is a BAD word. Designates timeframe :P. Think 100 years in the future.

I am going to have a recurring minigame where the main character must hack a computer to acquire information or in some cases control devices. I'm not sure how to go about doing this. I would like to avoid things like firewalls, viruses, packets, etc. (things that would give away a specific time period). I would like for it to be visually based and not text based. It does not have to be completely realistic, but, perhaps somewhat realistic. Any help is appreciated!

Thanks,

like Liam Neason?  :P

I have a book entitled the Course of Irish History... there are only 4 pages which include mention of Mr. Collins.

I personally never learned anything about Irish history in school.

I am part Cherokee and part Irish. Those are two races that the American system doesn't really like. The idea of being taught anything about them in a general American school curiculum is just...well, it doesn't happen.

Everything I know of Irish history is self taught. So in short...I don't think anyone is going to be able to help you.

This is the American way though. I have enough Cherokee blood in me to be legally a Native American. However, my birth certificate says that I am white. Which, I am NOT. I cannot legally change this because the american system relies on "rolls" (basically a census of American Indians) from the turn of the century. Well, American soldiers rode into my great-great grandparents village, murdered them, and took my great grandfather and raised him white...or tried to. So, of course his birth certificate says that he is white too. Even though my mother as a child recalls my great grandfather not being allowed to enter a restraunt because they didn't serve "redskins".

I LOVE THIS COUNTRY!!!!

sorry...got a bit off topic there...then again perhaps that is the example you are looking for?? Mr. Collins may not exist in many of the ways that my Indian blood "doesn't exist". Some countries like to forget their history.

Quote
...and Michael Collins from the IRB as the ruthlessly efficient organiser of the military resistance which opposed British attempts to smash Sinn Fein.

...It offered what Michael Collins called the 'freedom to achieve freedom'...

......In the course of the civil war, Michael Collins was killed in an ambush (22 August 1922).

Quote16 bit at 800x600 rez (better if possible) and should be truly visually appealing

:o URK!

Wow, you just cut the available artists for your project to pieces. There are only a handful of artists that can produce stuff that good around here.

As I am not one of them, I will offer to help with coding, but I have the impression you intend to do that bit.

Well, good luck. I must say, I would encourage you to lower the color depth and resolution and go for a RETRO look, and promote it as such. You may have an easier time at finding folks.

Okay. That makes sense.

I guess I should direct my efforts toward developing my own functions in conjunction with CCS maybe...? I've never really thought about that but, it could work.

Off I go into function building land!

I was just wondering if there had been any developments with these two things, or if any are planned?

I am nearing a point in my current project where these things will be used and was wondering if there are any new ways to handle it.

Also, if I could take this opportunity to make an official request to Chris:

NPC Functions?

I know in the past I have been told that it is not plausible, or at least not convenient to implement at the time. I was wondering if there would be a way Scorpiorus's CCS plugin could be sort of built into AGS, or at least something similar.

Perhaps a series of functions that could ONLY be called from the global repeatedly execute. NPCMoveCharacter(), NPCAnimateCharacter(), etc.

I can not begin to express how helpful this would be.

I'm just not sure if this has ever been officially requested or put on the tracker, so there it is.

thanks,

Trying to make my NPC's walk around before finding Scorpiorus's CCS plugin was probably the most headache-inducing scripting nightmare for me. Then of course, CCS is a nightmare to put together too!

I spend most of my time with AGS fighting to understand other peoples scripts it seems. Proskrito's SCUMM templates, while great, are a scripting jibbled nightmare.

Also trying to find a way to seperate Rickj's BlueGUI Animation Engine was a task. I finally did it, only to realise it wasn't what I needed.

NPC's are STILL my biggest scripting problem though. I would rather not rely on plugin's so heavily, and CCS has some limitations.

I really wish it was plausable for Chris to add some NPC handling functions to AGS. :'(

oh well...

The Model T ford is a classic car.

If you put it next to a 2003 model car, it would suck.

I think the problem with the debate going on is the use of the word "timeless". Barcik is right, it is not "timeless". However, it IS a classic. Otherwise we wouldn't be talking about it.

Problem is, there are many things that are "Classic" that I don't like. That doesn't mean it's still not a classic. There are plenty of classic movies that I think are crap and should have never been made. However, I would be an idiot if I assumed it still wasn't a classic. It just isn't a classic "for me".

I think this is the seperation regarding Sierra games. Some think they are not classics for "them", some do. But, I'm sorry to say, no matter how much "you" hate it, it is still a classic game, and a true pioneer in Adventure gaming.

King's Quest is our ugly, beaten, stinky father.

There is a Sierra SCI VGA resource extractor on the Ultimate AGI & SCI site I think. If you can't find it post again and I will try to dig it up...

General Discussion / Re:CJ is not Jesus

QuoteBoyd, Bodyart, Terran and some others are obviously trying to do just that

Yeah, sorry, that was worded poorly. I only meant that MORE people were not trying to hurt her feelings, yet still disagreeing with her. I think a majority(? or at least the posts that stand out) of the people that posted were responding in a civil manner.

I just kind of try to ignore the CRAP posts.

EDIT: I just went back through and checked, of the 40 something posts so far only 4 or 5 are insensitive.

General Discussion / Re:CJ is not Jesus
Wed 12/11/2003 16:49:30
Wanderlady, I appreciate what you are asking but, I'm sure you understand it won't really happen. Perhaps your plea was a way of venting frustration. I think all of the replies have conveyed the general idea that we do not intend to hurt you or your religion with these statements. If it does hurt you personally, then we are all good, kind, and loving folk who do not want to hurt you. You should know that some of us, if not all, are sorry that we hurt another human beings feelings. I hope you can see that these comments are our attempts at humor and not to hurt you though. If not then I believe you need to rethink the situation.

Another thing I must point out: I believe you are failing to see a positive point to the situation. We are not trying to insult CJ. We love CJ and appreciate what he has given us. In our mass appreciation we jokingly equate him not to Allah, Jehova, Vishnu, but to YOUR savior, Jesus! We, a WORLD community recognize your religion first. I believe you should reevaluate your faith and how you view the world as a whole. For you to not see this positive point may in fact put your own faith, and more importantly the practice of, into question.

If my post offends you, I apologize, it is not the intention of it. It is simply my intention to encourage you to see the positive in life and not the negative.

I believe that GOD is a loving entity. Non-believers, non-christians, and blasphemers alike may enjoy their place at his side if inside they are truly good souls. If you believe otherwise, perhaps you should ask whether or not your soul is worthy to sit next to him?

EDIT:

Bruised: LOL! I love you.
