I don't get it? All the multi-lingual people are taking a stance that I would assume only people that speak one language would take. Personally I don't speak German, but if I went to Germany I would expect that people would prefer that I spoke German. Same goes for any other country and any other language. You should at least TRY to speak the native language...it just seems more...respectful.

As for game translations. Since most of us only speak one or two languages obviously that gives us only one or two options. So, unless if you are offering to translate it for us...

If you are offering to translate...go for it! I think it sounds like a great idea. For some reason I thought there was an entirely German speaking AGS forum...did I just imagine that??

EDIT: This is the original post, please see below.

I guess just polyphony for wav/mp3/ogg

Is this possible or just too difficult to implement. I tried to make a drum machine a while back with AGS. It worked great but when a snare drum and bass drum played at the same time, one cancelled the other out. I'm assuming this is a limitation of AGS. Is there a workaround for this or is it a feature that would have to be added.

As for why I want this: I make electronic music and would enjoy using AGS to perform songs in. Obviously I can use other things and it would be easier and more friendly. But, I like AGS more. :-*

QuoteStand in front of the computer whilst your mate turns the lights on and off.

Hey, it works for Kraftwerk.

Pretty much where I stand right now. I think I am going to go to some cheap department store and buy some of those kid's DJ lights and hack them together and use that for a light show.

Quotefind a good vj and place some large screens in front of the stage. then you can stay away with your laptop.

Great idea. WAYYYYYY too expensive.

Quoteput three (semi)naked women on stage with big boobs dancing and you'll have enough entertainment on stage

I'm thinking more like buy three friends lots of alcohol, dress them up in bunny suits and have them wear plastic baby masks (like at the end of Brazil) and fist fight on stage. It would fit my music better.

Quotego find some video clips of orbital playing live.

heh, my two live performances looked more or less like that. Minus the expensive light show and light-hat-thingy. Just me surrounded by three keyboard stands piled high with gear.

Pretty much I expected a lot of “go guitar-bass-drums” responses. That is just out of the question. I don’t do “bands”. I really don’t like people and to share the creation of music with them is like asking me to…do something really hard. Not that I haven’t tried or that I have anything against other people in bands. It’s just not for me.

As far as how I intend to actually perform on the laptop. I have a few ideas for now. Perhaps create a massive Flash movie with timed scenes. Each scene has a series of buttons/mouse overs/key presses that trigger samples for each song. To eventually get that screen on a overhead would be nice, but way down the road.

In my opinion most commercial software sucks. Then again, it depends on how you use it. Fruity loops is really awesome if you don’t use ANY of the built in samples or effects. I can hear a Fruity Loops song from a mile away sometimes. Same goes for a lot of commercial software. Not to mention it just seems…weak…to not do it yourself somehow. If AGS supported more sound channels I would actually REALLY like to use it. Maybe I will request it in the Tech Forum. If I could write my own music software in C++ that is what I would do…but that is a bit of learning away.

Thanks for the suggestions, keep em’ coming.

When I’m not procrastinating about making a game with AGS I spend most of my time procrastinating about making experimental electronic music.

Lately however, lately being the past 2 years, it has not been procrastinating, but just down right failing to make anything. I’m in a rut musically and I keep on buying and selling equipment, just trying to find my “voice”.

So far everything has failed. At the heart of my dilemma is the burning issue of “Laptop vs. Gear”. Gear would be electronic music hardware, drum machines, synthesizers, etc.

I have released about 5 albums (independent releases, no label, but with a decent response). Of the five all but one were made with both computer and gear, predominately computer. I have performed live twice, with all gear and no computer.

So, my problem mainly lies with Live Performance. Is seeing a guy playing music on a laptop all that exciting? Personally, I enjoy watching someone tweak knobs on hardware, but…a laptop just seems dull. So, what the hell do I do?? Has anyone here ever seen a Laptop musician perform? What did you like about it? What would YOU want to see in a live laptop performance?

My solution in the past has been to possibly have robots on the stage, I have two Omnibots and thought about buying some other little robots and having them running around on stage as visual entertainment. If I could afford a projector I would do that, but those are too expensive.

Anyway, there it is…help?

General Discussion / Re:The Matrices
Fri 16/05/2003 18:11:27
Hmmm...I thought it was cool to like the Matrix...guess not :P.

Regardless I enjoyed both the first and second(saw it last night) as films.

I also enjoy the fact that it brings Baudrillard to the masses without them even knowing it ;) (no the Matrix was not stolen from Dark City, they were both stolen from Philosophy/Critical Theory/Old-school SciFi, as well as every other "World-as-a-simulation coupled with robots-have-taken-over-the-world dystopian future." ;D)

Yes, rubbery CGI, a bit overdone and not needed, that's what was so cool about FX in the first movie, that "effect" was done with REAL cameras, which is why it was fresh, CGI is anything but fresh now-a-days.

Perhaps people are expecting too much and trying to get too much out of the Matrix. It's just a movie, not an academic presentation. Who cares if it is original, unique, or whatever. It's just a hollywood movie. Does hollywood REALLY produce that much "good" entertainment? Perhaps I'm missing something?

Anyway, I liked Reloaded, it was an entertaining few hours and I'm really looking forward to Revolutions. It didn't educate or massively inspire me.

Then again the last movie that inspired me was "The Hours"

You may not want to search for a controller keyboard. They tend to be a little on the expensive side and are hard to find used. A good example of what I mean is the Oxygen 8, it has 2 octaves and costs over $100, NOT a good investment(although I bought it for the size). If you are willing to spend $200 then I would recommend something like a Casio CTK-671. It is along the same lines as MonsterSasha's, but without the lights ;D. Keep in mind I'm talking brand new, so I imagine you could find something used for half of that price, at least.

I just tried to look up the E-35 and couldn't find anything on it. If it looks like a decent keyboard I would go for it.

Anyway, my recommendation is to not look for a controller keyboard, just concentrate on a cheap keyboard with MIDI. That will be hard enough to find.

Sony used to be one of my favorite game companies. This is just stupid though. It doesn't make any sense that they made an entire model of the playstation that is having errors and haven't done something about it. I guess it's that whole, "It costs more to recall than to take lawsuits and do repairs, so we will just DENY it!"-thing. Not that anyone is going to sue Sony over but...someone should.

Sad thing is, only a few months ago I was dissing Xbox for the same EXACT problem. I was playing on my girlfriends brothers Xbox and it would read half of his games. He told me it's his second Xbox. Now the PS2 is doing the same thing!?

I expect buggy things from Microsoft...but not from Sony.

It's funny because I feel like I really can't complain, they are fixing it for free. Tricky bastards.

So I must rant about this...

For the past two days I have been taking apart and putting together my PS2 in hopes of fixing a disc read problem. I found all of these websites about how to fix your ps2 and how common Disk Read Error's are (they are even called DRE's for short because they are so freakin' common!)

So, I'm adjusting and tweaking and doing this and that and FINALLY the thing starts to read CD-ROM based games, but still no DVD's. So, I give up. Decide I will just buy another PS2 when loan money comes around. It seems that my specific version of the PS2 is likely to have these problems. If you have a SCPH-30001 treat it nicely...not that it will help.

So, today I go to the Sony website and right there on their forum is a sticky topic that says "Disk Read Error - Please Read!" I think, "oh! My problems are solved!" No, the tricky bastard just direct you to tech support.

So I call tech support.

They are waiving my repair fee. I just have to send it off for a month and a half. They will fix it for free and send it back.

When I asked the tech person about the problem and how common it is she gave me this canned response of "Sony stands behind their products" blah, blah, blah, "we fix it for free"....blah, blah, "good monkey"...blah, "buy more sony"...blah blah...BLARGH!!

THEY KNOW ABOUT THE PROBLEM!!! Why else would they fix it for free!? Grrrr...

Okay I'm done.

Thanks... ;D

Has anyone else ever had DRE problems?

Are you still going to do something with that 2ma2? I recall something about you seperating/cleaning things up so it would be easier to put something together with it?

Perhaps we need a Platformerius Template ;D

I will second the anti-GeForce MX statement. I own one and it is REALLY bad. It will play all of the new high tech super duper games like nobody's business. But, open up microsoft paint and start working on a 50x50 greyscale image...and poof, crash!

My understanding is that Intel has moved ahead of AMD in the processor world. I have AMD though and I can't say I have any complaints about it.

When it comes to soundcards SoundBlasters never seem to fail. On board sound is sure to suck. Then again, if your budget doesn't allow for it right now just hold off. It may not be that big of a deal to you. As a musician it makes since for me to drop $200 on a soundcard. Might not for others.

Good luck!

What's wrong with RON?

It sort of might be like RON. Depends on the response. I was thinking of something more along the lines of a poorly drawn InstaGame.

BALANCE THREE BISCUTS ON YOUR HEAD WITH A FLUTE UP YOUR NOSE TO UNLOCK THE DOOR!!!!!!

This will most definately end up in my game!!

Actually, I think I may turn this into something more than a quick whatever game. Maybe some kind of community bit of stupidity, something like RON games except, different.

Flute Biscuit Characters!!!!

I will make the most poorly drawn game ever!!

My screen sizes are going to be 80x50 :o!!

EDIT: Can a moderator move this to games in production and change the title to Flute Biscuit -- Plot by the AGS Community! Please Contribute!!

Nobody is too late because I went to bed. I'm not very good at this whole 1 hour game thing....Perhaps it will become a 2 day game! :D

I think I will use a combination of all of the ideas above somehow...

This is good:
QuoteThe man needs to build a machine to transform the monkey in an identical copy of himself so the monkey can do his boring, pointless job and he can go home and work on his game about a monkey and a man.

The monkey can be an annoying bastard and do this:
Quotethe monkey swallowed the car keys and you need to get em out

Perhaps a key component to the machine instead.

And then the plot twist:
QuoteThe monky is actually Satan!

Keep em' coming!! This could turn out to be very interesting :P!

:o The Flute Biscuit DEMO is available!!!!!!!! ;D

Okay, I like this idea, so hopefully this will be moved to the Games in Production Forum. Please add your game ideas, try to keep the plot so far in mind!! Have fun!

NOTE: If your idea(s) don't end up in the story, please don't be offended. I will release all of the sprites as public domain so that anyone may continue the series once I finish!!

;D I want to see how fast I can make a game...mainly because I'm bored. I drew a man and a monkey... Something really simple but with an interesting puzzle. The more absurd the better.

I want to keep the environment/characters simple. Something that lends itself to comedy well. Perhaps just suggest a setting...whatever...anything might help!

Hmm...I just thought of a way this could be useful...I have a car and space ship that are moved from a top down view (Think Police Quest). By allowing rotation this could be done with one sprite instead of two or four. I don't think it is a priority, but I suppose in special circumstances it could be useful.

The game that psygnosis forgot.

http://brataccas.juncmodule.com

The first game Psygnosis ever made was the legendary Brataccas. Not really all that legendary...but damn cool in my opinion. Next to impossible to control and very odd. I intend on porting it to windows via AGS.

As far as ripping from screenshots: There are a LOT of characters in this game. It would either take forever to do or just be impossible. I would rather pay to have it done this way. Some guy was ripping them for me...but, then he just sort of disappeared.

The site above is my dedication to the game. It is one of the most original games I have ever played. Most people hated it ;D.

Hello, I would like to hire someone to extract all of the graphics from the game Brataccas.

The total game size is less than 250kb. I would like them to be actually extracted, not taken from screenshots.

So, this would require someone with a little bit of reverse engineering skill I suppose. I am willing to pay for this service. I do not know how much work is involved.

If you would like to take a look at the files in question you can download them HERE

The game and Atari ST emulator are available HERE

If you know someone who may be capable of doing this please point them to this thread. Any help would be appreciated!!

Michael Moore is from my home town, Flint, Michigan. He made the movie "Roger and Me" where he pursued the president of GM to confront him about the loss of jobs in Flint.

I'm really happy to see Michael's success. Nice to see that I'm not the only person that made it out of that town. I still have a lot of family that live there. Not a pretty place. The economy just doesn't exist anymore. GM closed Buick City a few years ago, which was once the largest auto plant in the US, and now there are either thousands of people unemployed, under employed, or that have just left the city.

I just finished it. SWEET! Very nice.

Everything is so tight. I went back and played it again and it just flows so smoothly. Great music, amazing graphics, cute story. It would be really great to see something longer from you of this quality.

So where is RK3? Huh, where is it!?
