General Discussion / Re: Your best euphemisms
Sat 10/10/2009 11:21:00
Just now I have received news! "Obama caught - hot!". Man, was I disappointed when the content of the male mail was about nothing but "humongous fang power" and "She wants real male rimllpwat".

Rimllpwat. Now that's a new one.

Checking my spam folder, I quickly realized that there is virtually not a single word that can *not* be used as an euphemism for genitalia.

- "Torpedo her all night! "
-  "Her soft dunnage looked very inviting."
- "Let your terrifying man splinter growl!"

Well...

Aah, alright! In that case I guess you'll have to wait for Helme, he added that puzzle after I had been testing the game, heh...

Altough:

Spoiler

I do remember what his burial object was, and why you couldn't find it. I think you'll have to find his herbs that are hidden somewhere, so he can remember it - maybe this'll help you?

Glad you enjoy the game, Stefano!

Spoiler

Limfor always smelt a bit strange, that's what the others told you - to help Limfor remember who he was, you'll have to find something that feels and smells equally strange.

The birds and trees and the squirrel are just nice to look at :) - at least they were the last time I played the game

If I remember correctly:

Spoiler

You have to enter the kitchen and resurrect the druid before you can note tombstone inscriptions - they are not good for anything as long as you have not resurrected the druid.

Triple alright! I seriously recommend everybody who fancies some full length amateur adventure puzzle solving to give this a try, you won't be disappointed, I guarantee you. And I will furthermore fortify this with a short list of things that make this game worth YOUR time:

- good characters!
- good music!
- good puzzles!
- good font!
- good length!
- okay graphics!

See? It's good!

Arjon: Bill there, Stan that: http://erdbeertelefon.net/en/soundflies

Get your Awakener soundtracks while they're hot, people, and them drop 'em like they're broken!

Well, I am ashamed to admit, but I hired a freelance ghost piano player to help me create the soundtrack this time and that guy cursed me after I didn't pay him, and now the whole place is haunted and I have these terrible nightmares of soda machines and unholy relics...

Way to go, Ben!

The only thing that really bothered me was the english (I think I even missed some of the jokes because of that).

I know my english is not on a top level. Unfortunatly my proof reader didn't make it in time.
was eaten by spider...  :P

Come on, that's clearly barbarian grammar.

But just so you know: For the upcoming Cold Meat, I can be held responsible for any typos, grammar flaws and whatnot. So you don't blame poor Helme who did a great job in putting that all together, doing graphics, sound, puzzles, dialogs, story, animations and all.

Yeah, and I'm completely with abstauber here: Within the limits of MAGS, this can almost be considered a full length game, and I also found the dialogs very amusing, even if there were some mistyped words or some shiny happy grammar in between. Take it as a feature!

Hey, I was absolutely sure of that, too! This can't possibly be a hat, this haircut gave the dung shoveler so much personality...

Other than that, fantastic work - just like on your NecroQuest figurines.

Well, son! A merrily random combination of 50s-Rock'n'Roll lyrics, hot dog flavoured jokes and puzzle ketchup you served here! And I knew that Norway was not the vapital of Sweden, the capital of Sweden is called "Farthinder".

No/yes you are right. Any computer that doesn't go online will always be virus free. When people buy computers they should buy 2. One for net, one not. The net one will get infected, but its okay, it will always just be the less important virus net machine... The other PC need not ever believe in viruses.

This I would have seconded some months ago, but meanwhile I have had the displeasure to meet a whole new breed of viruses: Bit devouring USB flashdisk viruses! If you're collaborating with lots of people for university work or creative stuff, even your clean machine could have trouble with them - they nest in the USB disk's boot sector and you better not be around when that USB disk is plugged in!

Well, it's not really that bad, my AntiVir removed all of them until now. But they do exist!

They can now be found on my site, via the link Arj0n has already posted:

Yes, very true - the tracks aren't altered very much, but I have polished and filtered them before setting them into a new synth context, and as much as you might enjoy listening to the original tunes, I think mine are really something different. No offense to George Schweinfest, William Moriarty, Nicholas Scholl and Ruby Brooks, of course, I tip my edison cylinder before them in sincere appreciation.

Oh wait, you call these things top hats, right? And the whole joke goes down the drain. Anyway, enjoy. And thanks for your appreciation, Arj0n!

A big barrel of 'awesome, thanks' to all the people who enjoyed the soundtrack - it was, as was Ben's whole effort, pretty much an experiment in which I wanted to try and see whether:

1. mixing completely different styles and periods of time in music always has to sound like Moby
2. it is possible to work some synthesizers around an actual song without changing the song structure
3. people could actually enjoy a soundtrack that is sometimes distracting and probably not a very typical "adventure game" soundtrack at all
4. I could match Ben's experimental design effort with my own experimental soundtrack

Hey! Good to see this is finished, I enjoyed playing it very much; I also enjoyed fiddling with a tracker for the first time ever very much - and for all the people who can't get enough of cheap Roland MT32 samples arranged in a quite dubious way, I'll upload the soundtrack soon.

Now on to disk 2-5!

So if you like to leave a message there as well, don't bother :)

I think what he meant to say was "just go ahead!". Good old abstauber, always in for a puzzling contradiction.  ??? 8) :-X

On another note: We (Which is Ben and abstauber and Kastchey, but not me at the moment) are actually making progress of a most delectable kind. Action-packed action, love-packed love and acoustic guitar-packed guitar  - this will not fail to impress even the most hard-boiled adventure game aficionado!

I recently watched a documentary on satellite TV about the frequency domain. God, everything felt so static. I mean, everything is changing, but it still remains the same. Which reminds me of a song, but I forgot the title.

It was a pretty good song.

Don't ever do the 128! All my early composition and part of my mp3 music collection is virtually unenjoyable because I stored it in 128kpbs. The Hihats gargle and the voice bubbles and it sounds like something imported straight from underwater hell - just because my old speakers did not reproduce the massive loss in quality.

If I were you, I'd go with variable bitrate Ogg Vorbis, starting at 160kbps. The ogg format sounds much nicer in my opinion, which is absolutely subjective of course.
