Blockbuster... Hollywood, or what have you, whatever.

I wasn't saying that to disapprove of any of the games that are nominated in lots of categories - I was simply saying that very notable games that manage to attract lots of interest among the gaming community will always be, say, present in a way. I was going to compile a long explanation, but I think Goldmund already put it very well.

The AGS awards are for the AGS community, and games that make it beyond those forum and community borders and are well received deserve community awards both for drawing attention of the Indie gaming world to AGS and for helping the genre. And giving out AGS awards also means: giving fans of the genre who do not know much about independent game development, yet, a lead.

Think Hollywood. Blockbusters are nominated for the Oscar in nearly every category. There are some obscure names coming up once in a while, but in general, it's the same names all over - which only means that those were the most popular ones.

It seems, however, that lots of people just chose their favourite game and voted for it over and over again - I loved A Second Face for example, and I think it deserves all of the nominations it can get, but the player character was really not very notable. Well, nothing to worry about.

On another note: I am really surprised by the nomination of Man Boy for best audio - now vote the crap out of the establishment!

I say make it simple and turn that into your style. Seen Blake White? Simple as hell, stylish as a frozen popsicle.

Focus on what you consider your strengths, and if this is storytelling, well, run for it and try to build your materials as you go along. You'll lern a lot and produce some neat stuff on the way.

Ha! They took game mechanic idea #1 from Squidi's game mechanics blog and just did it! Cunning, cunning...

Ill see about that   :) First I have to finish my exams (chinese is not to be taken lightly). Im really glad you all like it more than hate it. My previous games were a failure (for the players), so Im happy that this one is better. Thanks a lot.

Hey, I just played the game you made for your Chinese class, and although I did not completely understand it (Czech vs. Slovak vs. Chinese), I liked it a lot! Very charmingly designed, nice graphics and animations, absolutely no failure. Yeah, so much for off topic, back to noblemen being tortured to death.

I'll have to agree with bicilotti, my first try was very enjoyable, you've created a very special game here. I managed to escape, but I suppose my virtual alter ago was just too daft to survive. Heretic sailors are just not what they used to be...

I've just been playing for a while and only stopped to review before the enthusiasm wears off and fades into a too clinical point of view - I've played all of your games before, and I really feel that at that point, all the dispersed elements of your talent have finally come together.

The clean, slightly Bauhaus-style of your architecture, the feeling for classical composition, the writing - all melt together to one epic adventure game. Epic both in terms of storytelling and - hopefully - actual impact on the independent gaming world.

Excellent work.

I've been playing the demo for some time now, and I must say that as a preview for people who'd like to buy the full version, it is not very suitable in my opinion - Maybe it's just me, but the gameplay and interface frustrated me thoroughly in this short chapter - Hotspots did not give any interaction responses, the "click person and draw attention to something else" system sounded very innovative to me at first, but I don't have any idea how it works, as of now.

I can see that you've tried to choose the most dramatic chapter of your game to attract interest, but after playing a demo that has frustrated me like this, I'd rather not consider buying the full game...

Hey - I am clearly logged in, as you can see, but in none of the four browsers (Firefox, Opera, Chrome, IE) I have tried I seem to be able to go to the nominations page, it always keeps on telling me to log in - ironically, it then redirects me to the forums and I am logged in again...

Hah, I'm terribly sorry, Jaime - I really did not know that the background was included in the Instagame package! Of course, there is absolutely nothing wrong with using it - and you have even improved and adapted it a bit.

I am owner of one Ending Man BS 500-AS. It is no happy ending man, believe me.

Hello, I have now ready my backgrounds, my only doubt is in this one, wich represents a cave. I take it from the web and make some changes, but now i see it too simple. Has someone some ideas to make improve it? I just tried to put something on the walls, but I can´t do it well...

Thanks !

Hey, that cave reminds me an awful lot of Babar's game "Alien time zone" - in fact: It is the same cave! Now what?

We should also thank kaputtnik for demanding that module :)

It has been a pleasure. Demanding things and getting credit for is so top notch, I think I'll make this my professional goal. I will now go and become a film producer, see you soon.

Well, how about The last tryst of Don Juan, the grammar nerd?

Critics' Lounge / Re: Punk Short

Well, it sounds like punk, in a pretty stereotype way. The way punk "should" sound, now, after it has lost any importance or feeling. No offense, but guitar punk music combined with sequenced drums is a thing I absolutely cannot stand, it sounds completely ridiculous in my book, especially if the sequenced drums keep on clicking like a clockwork, but in front of it is an average guitar player (no offense) with timing flaws and just tears the whole thing down.

If you want to record punk music, the first thing to do is to stop caring about things like a drum sound. And if you want to record punk music, don't try to do *punk music*, but punk music.

kaputtnik, and then bring your mother as your wingman and say "My mom was just saying that you're no good for me but I think you're very pretty..." and now you have a common enemy and she has something to prove.

I doesn't even have to be your mom, you can just go up to her and say: "You know, that guy over there paid me $10 to tell you he thinks you are fat - but, man, is he wrong!" - that way you will even outsmart all the losers who have read the book, but are too shy to insult their victims themselves.
#259
How about the next time you meet a girl, you start a conversation about that book you've read, and how you totally felt that this was the wrong way to approach a girl like her, because she is just too special for the professional pick up book to handle? - Bingo, I'd say!

Fine tuning the output of the translation sources. It would be very nice to have one file including character names which is sorted by rooms and GUIs, so there won't be so much confusion anymore when translating.
