I started a new version of the classical Larry Vales Theme by m0ds but sadly ran out of time, I'll have to get to work quick now! Anyway, here it is, the far-from-finished version for you to have a look at: Larry Vales, Ho-Dad!

A game about a pirate who wants to become a jew? Downloading right now!

~edit: Oh, it's a story about a mop boy who wants to become a pirate, or rather decides to become a pirate. The rooms are pretty big and empty, which means long walks through okay graphics, the music is quite distracting and the volume levels are very unbalanced. The spelling is a bit off road, I'd say, but not annoying. Yeah, and the story...well, it features pirates.

I like the inventory items, though.

Completed Game Announcements / Re: Damsel

Hey - this was good! The voices really added to the characters (The interpretation of Damsel reminded me heavily of that MTV show where rich kids are being given Landrovers for their 16th birthdays, forgot the name...). The graphics and animations were very nice, and I also liked TwinMoons music and the sound effects very much, it was all very well concerted.

And as a man who patiently sits in his seat in the cinema until everybody else is gone and his girlfriend is getting considerably nervous while he is still waiting for that special moment at the end of the movie that only he will have seen because all the other impatient not-nerds have long left - I have to say, I've been rewarded once again.

Usual trip in space ship can turn into hardly believe adventure in the middle of the heartbeat. Can you fight with unexpected destiny and save yourself and anybody else? Sympathic adventure for everyone.

These Czech guys - adventure lovers with pure hearts and a sense for sunshine grammar. But for something not completely different: The occasional gamer is occasionally game for reviews. This time: The Vacuum

Found it first, hahah! No, actually SSH found it first.

I can't keep track of this. I don't know why I am here at all. This isn't a job for a human, this is a laser's job, or a mutant's, or whoever is willing to devote his time to such a petty exercise, or at best doesn't even have any feeling of time. And these cheap parking tickets don't even stick in this freaking vacuum!

Also, I really can't see the point in dealing out parking tickets in front of a 4D shopping mall. People could be parking all over the place, and if there is an emergency the diametrical history controller will be set off, rewind time to eliminate the trigger of the emergency and that's basically it. Well, of course, the job pays pretty well, but I once imagined my life to be filled with meaning and immanence. I imagine I'd wake up and tell myself: „This will be another fine day in which you'll aid the progress of humanity and also further the development of your own personality.“

But, what do you know, Amy got pregnant, I had to get a job fast, we moved into that apartment in a not-so-bad part of Zorbax 5, Michael was born, I had to accept responsibility. But then, there are these days. Days like today. Days all I wish for is to return to my former existence. Once and for all leave this godforsaken traffic department and all of my freaking companions in this interstellar misfortune, created in an act of paranoid bureaucracy by the only race in the whole galaxy living in the dreadfully traumatized state of compulsive control. I'll leave it all behind! Buy me a flute and a gun that shoots. Finally feel the feeling of transcendence and immanence again, and be the man I used to be such a long time ago.

AGS Games in Production / Re: Boryokudan Rue

I really don't want you to give away anything, but I've got a question about the title of the game: Boryokudan, as I understand it, is the Japanese term to describe organized crime. Is "rue" also a Japanese word, or is it the French "rue", meaning "street"?

I really like the title, it is very original.

Edit edit: Um...does anyone here speak Czech? This is a longer review of the game than I would have thought possible.

Yeah, these guys from plné hry always write escalating reviews. It will definitely take me longer to translate it than it took me to play it (no offense, my Czech has been going up-around-the-bend since I've not been using it much lately), but I'll try to give you the gist:

The article starts by explaining that it was a reference to American McGee's Alice but notices that this time the original tale of Alice in Wonderland had been twisted even more. Oh, and that the Soviet hymn was playing in the main menu. It then goes on telling the story quite depletively ("Little Girl was a normal girl, but one morning she awakes and receives bad news from the mouth of a coarse man and shortly thereafter starts to fall down and lands on both feet in Underland.")

Well, then it says that there were practically no puzzles, but it was fun nevertheless because of the good story. The dialogs were also very well thought-out, the jokes will make you smile etc, etc. The author (a girl, by the way) then compares the characters to their role models quite elaborately (white rabbit, statue of liberty), devotes some extra space to the "magic stick" and discovers that it was actually a "rapid fire gun" ("rychlopalná střelná zbraň", what a nice long word).

And now the downside: It was too short. And the action player-wise consists mainly of hewing foes. If it wouldn't have, the game would have been rated with an 8 at least *honk, honk*

Good topic, good question. I will convert it in a chinese translation version for my girl friend.

Why, you naughty spammer! And to disguise this as the totally romantic effort of translating an AGS game for your girlfriend...Shame on you, Xuewen! If I ever need a Chinese translation, I'll make sure I won't entrust it with you!

I played what seemed more than halfway through it. The game is pretty relaxing indeed. Puzzles were quite easy, but nevertheless well thought-out, there were some nice animations - not much of an elaborate story or deep characters, heaps of spelling glitches and typos.

But then again: That relaxing muzak. And my favourite quote in an AGS game in a long time:

"Poor guy! As long he has this cheese round his head he loses his memory."

General Discussion / Re: Uninstall The Orical

Man, I really thought somebody had created a game by the name of "Uninstall The Orical".
The name rhymes, looks good and promises at least 15 minutes of excessive nerd adventure game trash.

What a shame.

The game itself was nice already, but the unlockable bonus? Motherfucking Karl Marx on a bicycle!  :o

That said, well done.  :P

Yeah, that was a really successful allusion to the good old kolkhoz joke:

"Did you see that functionary on his brand new bicycle?"
- "No, I only saw the skidmarx."

Uaargh! That bastard bouncy wall is communism's best friend! I keep on bouncing on and off and never really reach the ladder, and if I do, I miss the next plateau and then time runs out and the game quits without any further ado.

I really like the style of the game and it plays pretty well - there are some glitches, but they didn't quite annoy me. I fell through the wall behind the first ladder, for example, and died a horrible death in underground concrete, or I slipped behind the bouncy wall and bounced back out. Oh, and the bouncing is really very hard to control.

Nonetheless: Really good handling for an AGS made platformer.

Thanks for the fast reply!

Disabling some dialog options temporarily would be a must for what I am doing. I also suppose that it will not be possible to implement this just that easily, because the switching of the dialog options is called by another (pretty complex) module - perhaps I'll just go with a nicely designed screen-wide GUI for that part of the game and hope it won't break the immersion too much.

I suppose nobody will say no to a quick "overwash", as I'd like to analogously call it. Criticism: Drums too boring and lacking clarinet solo. I fixed it.

Good evening.

I'd love to know if any of you know if the newest version of AGS has made it possible to implement scrolling dialogs via sliders or buttons. I realize that monkey05_06 has released a module for this, "ScollingDialogs", but I fear it is slightly outdated, having been released a good two years ago.

In a certain situation, the game I am working on will feature way too many dialog options for a normal GUI to handle, so I will have to find a way out of this. Now, while I was browsing the manual, I found the new commands Dialog.OptionCount and Dialog.DisplayOptions. I've got the feeling that it might be possible to implement scrolling/sliding dialog options on a GUI with these; I can't, however, come up with an idea how this could be done.

Any suggestions how or if this can be implemented?

Hey, wait a minute! The puzzles were really well introduced and completely logical, if you take the time to explore the game and get into the game's sometimes twisted but nevertheless coherent logic - I was not stuck at any point of the game, enjoyed all of the text and finished it without ever feeling the idle feeling I get too often these days, running around in home brew adventure games trying to find the cheese for the door. Pardon me, the key, of course.

Some music on the other hand wouldn't have done any harm, this is true. Especially since this is - somehow - a music-themed game.

This game rocks quite hard! It's all in it: Diametrical (or even asynchronous?) storytelling, character development in several directions, elegant mixture of a whole conglomerate of graphics styles and jolly interaction responses. Hint: read the game and don't complain about the text.

Humbolt Steelwheels, you have really prettified my day! Not like the other guys with similar names like yours who are only trying to prettify my p3n1s via email...
