well, being the best n00b ever sounds nice.   i'll try and throw that in there for the regular ending, for the people not astute enough to figure out the obvious astuteness. it's less of an easter egg and more of a transition into "normal backgrounds".

I'll make a note of your suggestion. while i may not have the sprite for a stapler, i'll look up something farfetched and have that be the wife. maybe a wooden plank, or something. i'll have to work on cutscene programming and such. the dialogue will be no problem. thanks for the suggestion, i'll see to it that it appears in the "alternate" ending.

I'm not sure exactly what went wrong, but i think you're right. i also had a previous "UseInv" function in the events pane, and once i deleted it from that, the problem went away.

I copied it exactly and used some minor modification to fix it to what i wanted. i'm not the best programmer but yes, i did just use it to the room script. i'll remember that setup for future reference, in case i want to make a RON game after i'm done with this first-ditch practice exercise. Thank you SO much for assiting a noob. it worked fine! you'll be my go to guy for everything now, i suppose

well, i'm trying to get the well in my game to only respond to the use of the cheeseburger. (it's a drug game, so don't question it.) but everytime i use any inventory command on it, even just the plain old "UseInv()" function, it tells me :
"Error: prepare_script: error-18 (no such function in script) trying to run 'hHotspot3_UseInv' (room 6)"
i have tried rearranging the command to every possible thing i can think of, have searched the tutorials to no personal avail, and cannot seem to figure out a way to get it to work. would this have something to do with the inventory item itself or is it more a problem with the hotspot? i even tried writing " hHotspot3_iCheeseburger_Interact()" like a genius, since it compiled, but wound up falling flat on my face again. if anyone can provide hints, or even better, the bit of code i need, it would be much appreciated.

I'm currently working on "Super Drug Adventure 2011" (since that's likely to be when i finish with it.) It's more of a parody game than anything else, as indicated by the character taking LSD and being eaten by an anime chick, traveling through the bowels, coming out the anus, and landing in a robot town filled with robots that give away ice cream, a well that demands cheeseburgers, and a racist robot who hates "White recycling" ("anyone with a sophisticated sense of humor should be laughing right now"). i only have backgrounds i managed to swipe from google images that looked remotely like a good background, but none of them are connected in any way, which is why we're calling it an "LSD trip". if there are any other ideas, comments, or general scripting things that you'd like to see/be credited with "I could use you as a character!!!" let me know and i'll be glad to incorporate you into the game. (which you just lost )

as far as the game is concerned, i'm not really sure on a set level of the game, since i'm not sure how to end it. but i will say i am, at most, 25% done. as far as graphics is concerned, like i said, the background are all ripped from google images.  and the sprites i have plenty of so far.

i found the RON packets, downloaded sprites from that. i'm currently (as of 12-23-10) planning to work on multiple endings, (thought i'm not sure how to officially make it "end") currently, i've added an easter egg, the ability to get married to a bush that you engage in pleasant conversation with, all the while talking about "(Amaryllis Belladonna)" [anyone with a level of botany should be laughing.] and they loves the (Amaryllis Belladonna)'s (Felinus Domesticus). and possibly a robot in a wheelchair. the good part about finding the easter egg is indeed the bush, since our hero likes a trimmed bush, but a self-destructing robot, and i'm about to add in a court scene, (all of these things only happen once) with a large amount of dialogue and false accusations. what he's actually being accused of, i'm not sure. but this path will invariably lead to the character never wanting to get into drugs again, and Darth Vader telling him that's a good decision. the other path, while longer, won't have all of the fun stuff that the other, more obscure path will have. maybe it will, but regardless, the best path has to be found, right after you're swallowed by an anime chick and pooped out into a large robot town.

graphics: at least 75%, going to add more as i please
sound: none yet.
programming: bleh. going to fix typos such as "annoyjing text boxes" and make the character walk everywhere. i'm also giving people the chance to write in their own WTF moment to appear in the game, since it's going to be a one hit wonder, and everyone will love it and think i'm the best noob ever.

12-25-10...finished the court scene from judge rudy. (trying to figure out how to draw him behind a background and such.) such accusations include a unicorn engagin in overly excessive incestrous homosexual intercourse, which must have prevented him from being at the sex panther's house doing drugs. the ending will end at a police station, where they get turned in, have another excessively crazy dialogue, end up losing the bush that the player married (if you talked to him.) to slake the policeman's insatiable hunger for inanimate object action. [maybe i'll throw in some sort of shock ending. i'll have to delve into cutscenes, once again.] the other part of the story, always available, will travel through a market square, with a store that sells "everything you don't need" (cue optional crazy dialogue where you're almost being forced to buy "magical beer") and will end with the darth vader ending i mentioned. but i'll be sure to throw in some sort of epileptic seizure background. flashing light and such. thanks for gathering a nice little crowd. i'll post more screenshots of the crazy dialogue moments soon.

12-26-10...Before i head out with The Texas Tech Goin' Band From Raiderland for the bowl game, i'm taking care of some things. Today, i managed to create a rough ending to the alternate, "easter egg" game path, including the wife of the main character, a chicken, running off and marrying lola, (think of the song Lola.[LO LO LO LOLOLA!]). then, lola kicks the bush out of the house and the character is left with nothing. the worst part is, the drugs wore off, so the ending was "reality, bitch!!!". i'm about to work on the other ending, but taking a possibly weekend break till after i travel to the bowl game. maybe i'll lay the foundation and storyboard tomorrow.

12-27-10...managed to get close to the ending of the "regular" part. i think i'm just going to have the game end the same way for everyone, but how to get there is up to the player. one problem i have though, is i'm unsure how to upload the game to the server once i'm finished. other than that, this will be a soundless game, since it's a first. the stuff looks pretty good so far. i'm planning to have the "credit room" consist of the character being able to relive the dialogues from the game, though that may be a little out of my ability. i also have a brand new idea for a brand new game, but i'll post about that later.

12-28-10...Finished! i believe i have finished everything necessary for the game, i'm just unsure hows to go about posting the game.

yes that does! i also found a little action for the room itself, for "first time in room", which was an easier way of doing what i wanted. excuse my noobiness for a little bit. but i'm currently working on a "drug adventure" game.

I'm a Noob, sadly, and can't manage to figure out how to get DoOnceOnly to work. i have only a very rudimentary knowledge of Java, (i'm assuming that's the scripting language) and am not very technical with this stuff. i wanted to get to know THE ENTIRE SCRIPT for something of a message to display when you first enter the room. i've read the tutorials but run into problems with the "Game" variable already being defined. this is driving me crazy to no end and i would like a complete script so i can use it for future purposes. i'm unsure where to put the whole "static bool..." thing, since "static" only refers to"member variables" or something like that. help a N006 out and i'll make it worth your while!
