No, its okay, and if you think it would help, go ahead, join. I really respect you for opening up like this. My father was a Finnish Alcoholic ( he didn't drink often, but when he did, it was to get drunk) and he joined AA and it helped. I hope you get you life back on track. I support you, and am praying for you. Thanks for sharing, that takes a lot of guts.  (and I got that F.A. thing from National Geographic)

I would probibly be on the "world of monkey island" forum, wishing I make a game like the old masters, now, I am on the AGS forum...wishing I could make a game like the old masters ;D

I heartily agree, lets stop, lets discuss some of our fave IF adventures, wwhat we liked, what we didn't like, but lets not start a war.

Good grief! There is 5 whole games considered worse then "An Instagame: Luke's Existential Nightmare" they must be VERY bad.

Use doesn't have to be that simple, it can add to the interactivity, or it can detract from it. if its the only word used, (OR NEARLY) yes it can be a bugaboo, but if its only part, and not used for puzzles, it can make the game world a less frustrating place. A verb that can be used on practically anything, (but never anyone) so that if you are extremely frustrated, and you want to see some new text, besides the ones you’ve seen over and over again, just USE something, I find a computer telling me use is a naughty word is a greater destroyer of my suspension of disbelief, then using something, maybe it will turn a light on, maybe it will turn on the radio, maybe it will get you killed, but at least does something. its good for those stressful moments when you want to kill the parser. Like when YOU ARE A TOTLE NEWBIE!

I think "use" can have a place, but only for the "default" uses,(such as use phone, use shower,)and almost never for solving a puzzle. as well more complex synonyms should be included ,as in "use phone" should be equivalent to "answer phone" , but "use phone" should not be equivalent to more complex things, "use phone" shouldn’t mean "dial 555-1493"
just because Infocom's parser is so great, that doesn't mean there isn't room for improvement, especially in games for beginners,
btw, has anyone used the AGS parser engine to good effect?

But is a commercial musician, who has a contract and makes oodles of money doing hack work, (99.9% percent of music) an "artist"?

I tried "child of the moon" and I found the mousing impossibly difficult, maybe some kind of mouse trail would help poor inepts like me.

If I find a puzzle with a slide puzzle in it I shall KILL the developer(s)
{the previous statement was purely the opinion of the entities Id, and is not in any way related to the opinion of the entities Ego, or Superego, we say we bust their kneecaps)

Besides, there is PLENTY of home brewed interactive fiction out there, quite a bit of it higher quality then this, though the IDEA (a I.F. version of an old GRAPHIC game) sounds interesting.

I don't like gratuitous violence swearing or sex in movies, but I am quite willing to put up with it if it fits the story. For example, as a young lad of 12, I saw a movie where this Irish family got sent to prison for bombing a restaurant, but they didn't do it. it had Ben Kingsly in it and any way there was a LOT of swearing quite a bit of violence, and a bit of nudity, but for the movie it made SENSE, they were in a prison, it made SENSE for those items to be in there. On the other hand I have seen movies where they added swearing violence and sex just to make money, and I found that distasteful. If it fits the world of the movie, fine. If its a money grab, I hate it.
*EDIT* Darn me and mine bad spelling :-[

Please TRY to improve it, oh great and mighty Pumaman, it helps us newbs (as far as programing is concerned I am a total NEWB) if you can find it in your CJ heart to help. Save us Pumanman, from the awful grim grip of Raw Code! :D

As kid (a younger one anyway) I played a few. One was huge at least 300 pages long, and it had MANY endings. One that I thought was cool, as a kid, was where you are sent back in time,( from the future) and were reading the book, a nice pop of suspended belief

As far as I know, the wax tablet was used more by the Romans, not  in medieval times, but who knows, maybe he reinvented it ;D Anyhoo, It has always been a favourite invention for me, for it combines to areas, simplicity, usefulness, and ingenuity

My condolences, I can not imagine what it would be like, haven never lost anyone close to me, I can not even begin to understand what you are going through, but I will try for your sake. My utmost sympathy.  I'll be praying for you.

Yes just like a game can be drowned by story. but I can see what you mean by puzzles tend to mean "use thing on other thing" but that is but one type of puzzle. though the word is rather mechanistic, ( makes you think of jigsaw, or *shudder* slider puzzles) it can mean so much more, like the silly bucket puzzle in "MI2: LeChucks revenge" or the coffee puzzle in Grim Fendango ( I wanna be a thunder boy!)
