Ghost: I hope I have addressed some of your points without deviating too much from my original style. Rat folk in this mythos are are not really related to rats, they are just  a race who live in the underground sewers and caves and tunnels of this fantasy metropolis. This one is very cleaned up be cause he escaped this hunt/purge/genocide inflicted on his clan.

Ryan Timothy: I have I hope addressed some of your concerns. As for shading, I find that counter productive, in that it adds to the time needed to make the sprite, So it takes away from the spontaneity. As well, any shading would be rather crude, I only have ms-paint to work with.

Ben304: I am glad you like the varied line.  I am not sure what you like so much about the left foot, but hey, a compliment is a compliment. ;D

Maybe, maybe not. We really don't know either way about the afterlife. But the consequences in this life are mostly artificial. In a democracy if I could get enough people to agree with me, I could make murder legal, I could outlaw chocolate, and make the rivers run with pudding! And in an absolute monarchy, if I was the ruler, all I would have to do was say so. I am not saying you can't be a good person without religion, but it helps to have an excuse. Religion can be that excuse, or it can be an excuse to commit atrocities that should sicken any human being alive. On the other hand, it has given people the courage to do great good.
But on your own, your like on a floating island in space, nothing underneath, no foundation except a vague concept of human decency. If that is enough, fine good for you. But I don't think I am strong willed enough to create my own good like that.

I created this character to be like a swashbuckling rat man. I worked hard to try and work on my foreshortening and stance, as well as folds and drapery.
I think its OK, but I wonder what you people think.
It took me about a day, not including the time it took to come up with the basic rat folk type.
The stance is based on the figure on the right in this picture. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Image:0408_USA_Olympic_fencing.jpg

{Edit}
Wow, thanks for all the responses. I agree He could look more rat like. In fact I have made some edits to the image, both for stance, and for rattiness. He can't look too ratty, thats not part of the character or the people, but he should look MORE ratty. Here he is

Note the new non-sword hand and the slightly changed sword.

"You can lead a horse to water, but you can't make them drink." I wouldn't however just say "Christians" however. Those who want to be brainwashed would be brainwashed on something, Christianity is simply their soap of choice. If it wasn't that, it would be something. As a Christian who likes to try to think for myself, I agree that God gave us freewill, to explore this wonderful universe that He/She gave us.But I think in a way, we are all brainwashed, we all have some assumptions that we hold dear, to a degree greater then the evidence warrants.  In fact in some cases, there can be no evidence, I once asked a bunch of scientests where the energy/matter in the universe came from, if it can not be created? They had no answer, and said there was no scientific way to HAVE an answer. Which just shows there can be very physical things beyond Science, not just the metaphysical.
Religious zealots rather freak me out, especially when they use their energies for destruction and death, things I do not believe are part of what God wants us to do. To me, we are here to help our fellow men and woman, to love our neighbors as ourselves. Anything else is just dogma and additions.

True, it is more the journey and the round of beer afterwards that matters. Still, last times efforts proved the axiom "too many cooks spoil the broth" By the end of it, I don't even think we were making broth anymore. Still, to extend the metaphor, if the chefs have fun, and are they themselves the ones eating it, then what the heckles cakes.

I hope to gods that isn't your only file. Here is a tip, never, ever, save pixel art, to jpeg. It just blurs like somebody spat on your hard drive.

Maybe the 'I can't do that yet' puzzles are a reaction to the ease of acquiring walkthroughs, trying to force the player to follow the story.  I think it can theoretically done right, but is certainly a challenge. I believe it is very much of the linear/nonlinear curve, trying to between  railroading the player, and simply leaving them floundering.
Of course, adventure game heroes are kleptomaniacs anyway.

Besides, septic means infected, how the heckles cakes does a wound get septic before the ambulance arrives? I admit a gunshot wound to the gut could and would be likely to kill a man, but get your own facts straight before you haring others
Besides, the playable character is the hero of the story, and what is a hero? One who makes enormous risks and attempts dangerous feats, and lands them. In short, a hero is a fool who succeeds. Sure you can make an adventure game about a hero who fails miserably, a fool, but it would hard to make very enjoyable. And people play games to be entertained.

General Discussion / Re: Language Rules.

I think a better way of putting it is that we make the rules, in a fashion that means it is highly unlikely, but still possible, for one person to make significant changes. Of course if someone is famous enough, there actions can significantly face the lingual landscape, but usually, things take time. Language seems to change fastest during times of upheaval, as slangs and terms are invented by various factions, as well as when new words are brought in by people in interface professions, like merchants and sailors. This is why during the start of the Age of Exploration, so many new words were added to the English language. Also, when one culture conquers another, the new ruling class adds many new words as the society reintegrates, such as the Norman Invasion of England. I love the English language, it is such a melting pot, with sometime seeming to have more exceptions to the rules then words that follow the rules.  SO do your part, work to change language, but don't try this on your English Teacher, it tends to make them ticked.

Thank you, like I said the poster is placeholder, but would you happen to know of a away distorting images so they fit? I alas do not have photpshop, and my computer lags when running gimp. If not, I can always make a different different image. If you know a bit about computer history, you may get the 'joke' the poster implies, I was wondering if anyone did, or is it too esoteric?
[edit} here is a slightly changed image, I changed the window bars to be a bit more rounded, and hopefully helped the perspective on the poster text. I did it the old
fashioned way, made 8 blue bars and 'carved' the letters out.
Any critiques are welcome, but please be informative.

My newest background for my oldest project, I am resurrecting it it because. . .I want to. This is the bed room, some objects , such as a door, will be added as well, objects for animation purposes. Other then that, I want your opinion and critique, especially on the color scheme and perspective. This took me about an entire evening  to do. The character walking around will be very green. The poster at this time is placeholder, but I like it anyway. ;)

A Grim reaper suit - Grim Fandango

Actually, I never remember the Grim Reaper suit being part of your inventory. Oh, you wear it once while playing the game, but it was no more part of your inventory then Guybrush's shoes. I don't have it now, because, I lent it to my sisters, so I can't check, but I have a good feeling I am right.

Unused inventory items

A bucket of teriyaki sauce.
A comb carved from a butternut squash
A souvenir snow globe for Hell
Slippers for your pet monkey

QuoteIf we do another chain writing activity, I would throw out the suggestion that we have two teams of ten people instead of one giant team and start them both off with the same theme or even the same 200 word intro.  Then, the turnaround would be shorter and we could see how different the two stories turned out.
I like the idea of starting with the same original paragraph a firm idea and theme and two teams seperating off.It will take longer, but hopefully it will weed out a bit of the, "joyrider" element.  It will probably still be crap, but hopefully it will not make my head implode this time.

I am sorry, but I really didn't like it. I guess what turned me off was eating the heart, and then the spider man and then the confusion and then...*runs away screaming*

I shall take my share of that as a compliment  ;)

I finished it with what I believe to be the spirit with which it was written.
Here it is, knock yourselves out.
