Lovely background Cassiebsg! It has a nice RPG vibe and I can imagine some head-scratching puzzles involving that tapestry.
I love the other entries too, so many different styles!

I'm still working on my entry, hope I can finish it in time.

I'll give it a try in the next few days, but I've never seen Speed Buggy â€" I don't know why, because I've watched many Hanna-Barbera cartoons as a kid. Although I must say that those Photobucket screenshots don't look too enticing ;)

By the way, did you use the same explosion in this game intro and in Rotary Club? I would recognise that explosion anywhere, after having seen it so many times (damned spiky mountains! (laugh))...

Tycho: orange is fine, thank you. :)

horusr: that's what I was thinking too. Voting will be tough!

QuoteAll contestant must draw an Isometric Background
Ouch! I'll give it a try, but I expect terrible results...

By the way, what are the games in that picture, Rocchinator? I think the fourth one is Veil of Darkness, but what about the others?

The story sounds intriguing and I love the graphic style! Good luck with the production, Rocchinator.

I have associated your avatar as being an artistic representation of you so much now that playing the game will seem like playing as you lol
I'm glad to hear I'm not the only one! (laugh)

So many great entries, it was a hard choice.

Concept: 03 â€" Nixxon. Great art style, fantastic colours; Roger's sprite just fits right in.

Playability: 06 â€" Abstauber. Such a clean, uncluttered background, with clear walkable areas and precise palette. It's really good. I think it would be a great choice for the template.

Artistic Execution: 05 â€" Rocchinator. I just love that view of space! The ship feels a bit big compared to Roger, but I'm sure it can be fixed with a few touch-ups.

Fantastic image, Blondbraid! I love the subtle way it tells a story. The jpeg compression is quite aggressive, though, and it ruins the picture a bit.

It's time to vote!

Entries:

1. Stupot's café in the sky!

2. horusr's Ottoman café!

3. Cassiebsg's tropical bar!

4. Rocchinator's biker bar!

5. xBRANEx's animal-filled pub!

6. Blondbraid's wartime café!

Voting categories:

Concept: your background should tell us something about the kind of patrons that regularly visit the bar.
Playability: does it have clear walkable areas, things to interact with, etc?
Artistic Execution: what's the feeling of the place? Does the image convey the wanted atmosphere?

Voting is open until the 1st of August.

Hey Blondbraid, can you manage to finish your entry by tomorrow? Otherwise I can extend the deadline by a day or two, if no one minds.
#972
Great image, xBRANEx! Wonderful characters and atmosphere, so many nice details too. And the pixellated Van Gogh on the wall? Absolutely fantastic. (laugh)
#973
Lovely graphic style, it reminds me of Lara Croft GO, which was a pretty nifty game.

Thank you, Blondbraid and Cassiebsg!

This is such a nice game! It takes some time to get used to the controls, but after that is really fun. And heartbreaking, when you lose your fully upgraded helicopter because the cat decided to distract you at the wrong moment.

QuoteI was just hiking, when a crazy guy/gal in n helicopter hooked me up... And all just because he/she earned money for every "rescue" done...
(laugh) I think we've just discovered the true, evil nature of the Rotary Club.

Rocchinator: how did you manage to make the toilet even more disgusting?! Great colours, they give the image a nice comic book feel.

Misj': that's too bad :( I would have loved to see your interpretation of the theme. If you feel like, you can show us some of those sketches, but I can understand if you don't want to.

I don't know if I can extend the deadline, I already changed it once. Having two background contests overlap probably didn't help. :-\
#976
Stupot: that's a nice improvement over the previous version! Too bad about the tables and chairs. :(

Rocchinator: I love your background, Rocchinator! I hope you'll be able to find the time to keep working on it, but it's already great in its current state.
#977
I agree with Tycho, great background Cassiebsg! And the patrons seem to be enjoying themselves too... except that guy on the left, he looks rather depressed. Nice attention to detail in the characters' pose!
#978
Great entries so far!

Nixxon: fantastic background, with great colours! I love those winding roads, they give the image a nice sense of depth.

eri0o: great atmosphere there, and nice palette!

Rocchinator: lovely spaceship interior, it really fits with the theme. And that view of space... wow!
#979
Nixxon: thanks! I wasn't sure about my backgrounds, so that's a relief. Now, go finish your entry before the 17th! ;)

CaesarCub, dactylopus: thank you! :)

Mandle: (laugh) If I ever make such a game, you'll be the first one to know! ;)
#980
horusr: that's a good start, I like the hookah and the lamp, you should keep working on it! At the end, even if the result it's not what one expected, it's always a good exercise. Practice makes perfect and all that! ;)

Stupot: there's no better reference than real life!
