Sure! I will extend the deadline to July 26. :)

I made two backgrounds, because I wasn't happy with the first one and... I'm not really happy with the second one, either.
I don't know if it's allowed to have two entries in the same competition; if it's not, I'll remove one.

Nixxon: wait until you hear about my Advanced Pixel Art Techniqueâ,,¢, which consists of drawing a big picture and then resizing it to fit 320x200. Can't get any more advanced than that!
I hope you manage to make an entry, I'm curious to see what you come up with!

Completed Game Announcements / Re: Hang On

I played Hang On yesterday, what a charming little game! After finishing it, I went and tried The Treasure of Loch Inch too. I love these small games, long enough to entertain you, but not too demanding. They really cheered me up after a bad day.
Can't wait to see your next project!

A bar at the top of a skyscraper, what a cool idea! I already like the look of it, it makes you want to grab a cocktail and admire the view.
If you (and others) need more time to finish your entry, let me know and I will extend the deadline.

I'm working on a background. I don't know how it's going to turn out, since I'm not very good at drawing low resolution stuff.
I love the new template, by the way!

Please do, Stupot, if you have the time. :)

DBoyWheeler: it's such a cosy looking inn! Except for the garlic, maybe. And such a great game, too.

Rocchinator: come on Rocchinator, you can do it! The Background Blitz needs you.

Ooops! (laugh) Sorry!
I've changed it, now.

THE CAFÉ

What better place to gossip, have a drink, and annoy other patrons, than the café?

Spoiler
(from left to right) Vincent van Gogh, Café Terrace at Night; Edward Hopper, Nighthawks; Neuromancer; Gabriel Knight; Jean Béraud, At the Bistro; Quest for Glory IV; Interior of Seth Kinman's Table Bluff Hotel and Saloon, 1889

Your job is to draw a café, whether it's an elegant French bistrot, a cosy English pub in foggy Victorian London, an eerie tavern near Dracula's castle, a neon-filled futuristic bar, a sleazy saloon in the wild west, or something else entirely.

Deadline: the 19th 26th of July 2017.

Voting:

Concept: your background should tell us something about the kind of patrons that regularly visit the bar.
Playability: does it have clear walkable areas, things to interact with, etc?
Artistic Execution: what's the feeling of the place? Does the image convey the wanted atmosphere?

Have fun and good luck!

Great entries everybody and thanks for the votes! :)
I'll try to come up with a new theme as soon as possible.

The Rumpus Room / Re: The Big Blue Cup Gallery

Here's a "medium sized blue mug" from The Journey Down:

and one from Adventure Island:

I hope I'm not too late to vote!

Concept: Blondbraid â€" your image gives me nostalgic feelings about all the hours (mis)spent as a kid playing fighting games. I'd love to play a Mortal Kombat stage set in your background!

Playability: DBoyWheeler â€" nice use of colour, great contrast between the red sky and clouds, and the blue platform. It's the perfect place for a fight against an evil wizard, with clear walkable areas and hotspots (I must destroy all the crystal to beat the final boss, right? I'll better save the game before trying it, just in case).

Artistic Execution: Nixxon â€" what an ingenious idea and great execution! It'd make a perfect background for some wacky cartoon â€" and I'd love to play around with that interface.

The other entries:

funnyboy044: your background has a very adventurous feeling. I like the contrast between the brown of the cave below and the yellow at the top.

Misj': what a lovely entry! It reminds me of the Franco-Belgian comics I used to read as a kid. Although, if you remove the characters, there isn't much to interact with in the background.
Still, a great image: if it were a comic, I'd buy it in a heartbeat!

@DBoyWheeler Can't talk about that â€" I'm silent as a tomb.

@Tycho Magnetic Anomaly Thank you very much, Tycho! I, too, have an interest in ancient Egypt, so I had a lot of fun drawing the background (and looking at pictures of tombs and sarcophagi for inspiration).

@DBoyWheeler (laugh) "Come here, boy, and your mummy will give you a big hug!"

@Rocchinator Thank you! No wonder the snakes look hungry, they haven't had a meal since the previous archaeological expedition...

If you manage to pass the snake pit, the mummy awaits you on the other side!
