OK, with most games almost every room will have dozens of hotspots, objects, characters etc... and with these there is a need to provide some sort of interaction for the user.

How would I go about creating a global random displayspeech that would have 3 or so messages for each interaction (lookat, pickup etc...). And with this I could call upon one of these (random choice which one) for any object or hotspot without a designated interaction.

Could this be done and if so, how?

Has anyone made anything with this so I can take a looksie?

isn't that an invasion of privacy? anywho....

The Rumpus Room / Re: Sam and Max 2 Cancelled!

In this month's issue of GamesTM Magazine I found a small article on Sam and Max 2.

QuoteMaxxed Out

Those of you hoping for the return of everyone's favourite freelance police, Sam and Max, following their cancellation by LucasArts last year can stop holding your breath - it looks like you're out of luck. Despite German developer Bad Brain Entertainment hinting that it was working with LucasArts to resurrect the canned title, things have come toa  close. "Negotiatons with LucasArts failed," said the developer. "We won't get Sam and Max 2 - not the code, the artwork or anything else."

I can't say I enjoyed the puzzles or gameplay within the Dig, but I found the cinematics, story and graphics really quite entertaining. As for full throttle, I like the fact that it was relativly short, it's got a great story to boot. It's one of those games I can play over and over.

Yes, I've finnaly upgraded to a .com domain with all it's juciy goodness. For those who already knew I've removed the 'Under Construction' page and replaced it with content and a new design.

Check it out at http://www.magintz.com/

If anyone wants to add a link from my site to theirs there is a link on the links page.

Well, that's about it then.

Wow, thanks!

Quite a lot of stuff to take in there. ATM i'm not looking to fork over any of my hard earned, and quickly depleating money so I may check out some of the free links. If I come into some wealth i.e i actually get a job :P, then i may buy something a bit better, but I like to check out all the alternatives before buying so it might be a while before i'm creating anything nice.

Anyway, I'll check out some of the links tonight probably.

lol, good to hear my game name is famous :) and no it never happened, although it most likely won't anymore as I recently formatted my PC and being the stupid fool i was forgot about AGS, and the only thing i keep backed up is my current game in production. C'est la vie I suppose.

I may get round to making it again, but starting from scratch isn;t too appealing. Who knows I may have it stored on a floppy disk somewhere to start work on it again.

Your idea of the staggered release sounds good, if i wait till part 2 is done then it will press me onward to making it. I may try that instead. I'll give it some thought over the weekend.

General Discussion / Music related help

I need to get myself into some form of sound production for my games, although I have petteri to make some A class midi's I'd really like to begin to develop my own sounds, sound effects and that sort of thing.

If anyone can help me out by pointing me in a good direction e.g good programs, good tutorials etc...

I've used fruity loops a bit before, and i've heard cakewalk is rather good, but if anyone can help i would appreciate it.

thanks

Ah yes, Cirque, that was funny, i loved the beginning part... "so you'll save my daughter and in return I shall send you home....." - "nope!" very blunt and unexpected, yet funny all the same.

I also though Day of the Testicle was rather funny in a m0ds sort of way, that made me laugh. And noone has mentioned 1337 Pete or whatever it was called, i liked the bit with the chalk outline of a tellytubby.

Anywhoodle, i've said enough.

excellent, should be good. Thanks for the advice, my internet is down at the mo i'm in the library at the other end of town right now so i'll try to get all my bugs cleared out by friday or saturday and return back here and post it.

Thanks for that, but i already have the f3 command implemented into the last version i made

I know I've been promising an update, but I now promise to get three new versions out by easter.

Versions 1 will contain the template, thats it.
Version 2 will contain a demo game to explain everything.
Version 3 (still in concept) will be completley different. It will contain a form of Artificial-Artifical Intelligence and will pick up on certain words and grammar points such as questions, store items in selection of strings and reply back e.g:

What is your name
tell me your name
i would like to know your name
what do people call you

would all respond the same, and the system would also learn, if you told it your name it would look for key features such as name and my etc... and store into a database "name", and next time you were to interact it could respond back with "it was Magintz, wasn't it".

To begin with it will start by learning names, dates and other important information and maybe branch off.

I thought the whole idea behind mags was that you did it all yourself? better check up with Klaus about that one.

Larry Vales is my altime funniest... "Points Kerching!", and the "Blade-run like heck" moments were special :)

JAPACA made me laugh, especially the introduction... what ever happened to that game's sequals?

Captain Muchly Drinks Bleach was funny, but it was more of a "laugh at" than a "laugh with", the idea of it all and the shortness of the overall quest was rather amusing, I hope it was intended to be that way.

I've now completed part one of my game. It has just finished it's beta-ness and I'm planning a release of it in stages very similar to Apprentice or Book of Spells, although my game will not be as long as those.

Should I continue and release my game in parts, or should I work at it, complete it and release it all as one?

I'm very tempted to release it now so I can get some feedback as to what options would be preffered throughout the story and get some general feedback as to whether or not to progress making it.

I know at the end of the day it's my choice but I would like to know how people would prefer something like this?

funny, i love the little flash ligh card

talking expressions - like in lucas arts games, where at certain points within the conversation the character would shrug, point, laugh etc...

This would be UBER useful IMPO in creating more authentic games.

Cheers
