Wow, seems like a lot of people wanting to enter this month.

PureGhostGR if you want to enter you can, but you won't be able to win, could be fun.

Ever wanted to make yourself a classic Sierra text-based adventure? Well now you can with the new Text Parser Template.
Just put the agt file in the AGS program directory and start a new game to select it.

Version 2.0
This is a completly new reworking hence the jump straight to v2.0. I started fresh from a blank AGS document. This is fully annotated, more concise and easier to learn to use. It also uses the new AGS 2.7 scripting style. This is the earliest version and I still have to re-work some of the more complex stuff like inventory system etc... but it is more than enough to get you going. This is now broken down into 1 room.

Version 1.1
  - Added two rooms with interactions AND annotations
  - Fixed "Get Closer" command when you take key
  - Fixed minor spelling errors
  - Removed the readme as no-one really use's it (annotations were easier)

Have fun

Download here (Thanks Rui)

Just to let everyone know this is old and outdated, you're welcome to use it but I suggest it as just example code to reference and perhaps learn how to do it yourself, either that or check out the enhanced version from Laukku

What is MAGS?
MAGS is a monthly competition for all amateur adventure game makers. The idea is to use AGS to create a game in under a month, following the rules set by the previous winner.

For more information please visit the Official MAGS Website

Why should I enter MAGS?
BECAUSE I SAID SO... k!

joking

I'm not here to tell you that you should enter MAGS, but merely allow it as a creative opportunity to help you work to a deadline, improve your skills, and generally as a good kick-start for the new comers (a.k.a n00bies).

MAGS is the perfect opportuninty to make a game, and the wonderful prize is to announce the net month's rules, and all competitiors get the game placed on the MAGS website.

MAGS is meant to be fun and is aimed at everyone, despite their skill. If you have poor art skills work on graphics, and vice-versa, as the voting is based on "favourite" games, and not the most artistic, you may get help for the competiton, but must not get anyone else to do any part of the game for you.

Due to popular demand on IRC i'm releasing the competition a day early so you can think a bit more about it, and I expect to see games from Vel and  Alkaline, and if I don't "may CJ have mercy on your souls"

-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Theme: Magic & other Paranormal Activities.

That’s right. The new theme for the Mags competition is magic. You have to design a game that includes at least an element of magic, witchcraft, occult or paranormal activity. The character can be anything or anyone you wish, as long as it fits the story.

- The main character can be either good or evil but no matter which, should have a strong personality and motive for his/her actions.
- The setting can be anything. (medieval, modern, fantasy,sci-fi or anything else you want).
- There must be a Day/Night change, at least once, somewhere in the game. (cutscenes included)
- There must be a well-thought ending, or conclusion.
- Although not “strictly” obligatory, a severed body part is more than welcome.
- It would be a good idea for the main character to possess some sort of special power or discover having it during the game.

I believe that the rules are open enough to allow flexibility in your ideas. I will agree with the forum members that main idea is to have fun .
I hope that the subject is juicy enough and can be interpreted in so many ways that it will be a challenge for everybody.
Remember, even if magic isn’t your thing, you could still make a game about the character not liking it, or facing an inner conflict.

Have fun creating.

Plot examples (cliché):

- Light: A magic book that carries children to a fantasy land to defeat an evil witch.
- Medium: A young cop who has the ability to read peoples minds.. and fights an ancient evil.
- Dark: A deamon seeking a “host” in order to carry through his mission on earth.

YOU HAVE UNTIL THE 27th NOVEMBER

soz, more errors for you to play with

Spoiler

When you place the fruit on the floor it has no status line message

When you try to pick up the snake it runs away but not into the hole, is it meant to do this?

You can take as many bones as you want from the pile... there's no limit!
[close]

and I also have the error where you walk straight to the end, but i'll ignore it for now and download the update.

Also: how do I get the snake?

I started voting on the 25th, and finsihed them on the 28th, this allows enough time for the winenr to think of the rules and not rush them.

This month's rules look good, I just got them this second but I will have to wait for the first of the month to post them, I may need to ammend them slightly, but they look real good, stay tuned.

wow, looks real perdy, very secluded, maybe a little animation of the waves coming in :D

I thoguht LSL was funny, but not my favourite adventure, but I s'pose I am a loyal LE fan through thick and thin...

I probably will buy it, and am glad that the genre is finally resurecting itself. I don't really think the adventure genre was dead, just merely hibernating and occasionally came out to retrieve its nuts...

yay Al :D

I've never played loom but from what I've heard it sounds pretty good. I downloaded Spyros' template of Loom and thought that everything was so original.

Someone mentioned FoY, well thats an individual project that has original art, plot and story, the only thing they've used is the name Indiana Jones, and considering its a non-profit fan creation I can't see why not. It's no different from a fan site, fan art, fan music or fan story, so why should the fact that it's a game make it any different from the above?
#872
I loved that game, I was only able to play this recently when it became free as they used to be an error with it runnign in any sort of Windows environment.

Thanks to this freebie and ScummVM I was able to play it fully, and have to say it was brilliant, I think it could be made into an awesome film!

And we have a winner!

It was very close voting this month and all three entries were superb, we had a range of humour, sci-fi and overall madness where the character took everything but the kitchen sink. ;D

Now to announce the winner.....

*drumroll*

Well I hope everyone is enjoying the new program I've created m0ds 1.1, here is a list of features:

- Witty, sarcastic forum posts with lame smilies
- New AI system allows him to actually speak in 1337 and use IRC

We're still working out a few minor bugs such as the inability to finish a game and update his webpages, more info coming soon with a new update.

*feels upset that he isn't going to be in anyone's game

But the thing is - it has all of those things, and the fact that by spending that money you get free delivery. For that price you'd be paying double, if not triple, for an off the shelf game.

I think that it is well worth the money, and am glad I helped support amateur adventure games like Mike.
#880
We, AGSers, will always rate people's games as amateur, as that is what they are. I think what they may have done is tried to compare it far too much to a commercial game, despite it being amateur.

All I can say is that our opinions are different to most people's as we have the added 1337 value :D

Ionias, ignore those people, it's our opinions that matter, right?
