@monkey_05_06 I have that option set to true, yes.

As for this general problem with gui transparency, I got Mr Names on the case and he says it can't be done.

The rest is all very complicated for me but I'm sure I could work through it. The problem I have though, is this...

Quoteswitch this gui on/off everytime you display dialog options/dont display them.

A simple visible check doesn't seem to work so this would require me to put a bit of code at the @S of EVERY dialog. I'm prepared to do that but is there an easier way?

If this is off topic, I suppose it's best to continue the discussion here.

EDIT: I got Mr Names on the case with this and he says it can't be done. So my request stills stands...

If someone has said this before, I'm seconding it. If not:

Transparency for dialog option guis, please!

Until that is implemented, TLG isn't getting released, basically.

For some reason, the dialog option GUI (I'm using my own) is the only GUI with which you can't use the "gui.Visible = true/false" feature... It just doesn't work.

Is there a way of detecting when it's visible?

This also came up as part of this issue for which we found no solution.
#125
Yeah that works, cheers tzachs! :)

Basically, I want the ShakeScreenBackground to keep going indefinitely until I abort it manually (by setting length to zero) how would I do this?

I have looked through a few threads but nothing has come up...

I really like how you are releasing all this stuff. For an AGS newcomer in awe of your game, I'm sure it's really useful. It really shows that the game making process isn't simple and flawless for anyone...

What an excellent game! Just finished it and that final cutscene was amazing! :)

With a little bit of attention to detail - new font, and... oh, just a new font - the next three chapters could be even more excellent!

How do I get rid of the scary bird?

Played a bit of this and the production values are excellent. Lots of animation, and good at that!

Looks like this is the game to beat this year! *gulp*

Right, I've sorted the image. Probably wasn't a good idea trying to link it from twitpic! ;)

I'm not sure what help this is now but I would have started with a cave, with interesting nooks and crannies and things and a walkway through it then fitted the equipment in.

This would help with perspective and composition, plus it's bound to be more believable because that's the order it would happen in reality... :)

Maybe you could draw a complex of caves and stuff then copy and paste the stuff you've done into that?

P.S. doesn't have to be a cave, it could be a warehouse or something but I used the cave example for illustration.

I should point people who follow this thread to the recent AGS blog interview about me and The Longevity Gene:

Also, I posted this image on my twitter feed recently to illustrate some of the animation in the game (something I haven't managed to showcase much):

1) Have a story idea.
2) Think of some characters and locations.
3) Start drawing and scripting.
4) Add some puzzles as I go, expanding and changing the locations and story in order to do so.
5) Revise a load of stuff.
6) Slowly get everything done, which takes ages because I've expanded as I went.
7) The game is now playable from beginning to end.
8) Fill in all the gaps I left as I went and update sounds, etc.
9) Decide that was a dreadful way of making a game and make a note to myself to that effect.
10) Post about this completely undesirable method on a forum.

I 100% advise you do not use this method. It is pretty much how I do things, though.

I don't think it will be on the end credits, I'm afraid.

Pink Floyd are ace though!
#137
Dual's question were ace this time! Does this mean I've 'made it' now? ;)
#138
Yay, thanks Dual! :D

UK TV series are typically 3, 6, 8 or 13 episodes.

As I am aware, it is because of the small teams of writers, as Calin said.

I agree with everybody, this game is intriguing in every way. I'm just as excited for this game to be released as I was when GTA 4 and MGS 4 were released. Even the title - "The Longevity Gene" - I can only imagine what the story will be about, but the title in itself has captured my attention.

And those graphics... I'm kind of an old-school gamer having grown up with the Commodore 64, the NES, and DOS... these graphics are totally retro in the very best way, made by a guy who probably wasn't even born when these systems were in there prime. I can't wait to see some animation...

A definite "must-play" AGS game from markbilly - The Pixel Master.

Wow, can I put that on the box? :D
