My first time entering the MAGS competition and my first completed game!

It's a bit short but I hope people enjoy. It's also very very easy! ;) I started marking this for my girlfriend over a year ago, so decided to finish it off for MAGS. Unfortunately, I only found out about the compo on Saturday!

Wall-E and Eve have returned from their adventure on the Axiom but there is still plenty of rubbish to sort out back home on Earth!

Download!

Apparently no one got stuck yet..

I did, lots. Dunno why.

I thought this game was brilliant! Can't wait for the polished version :)

I'm entering this one! Only found out about it Saturday but managed to finish a short (very) game off. :)

Will edit this post.

EDIT:

Here ya go. A bit short but I hope people enjoy. It's very easy. I started marking this for my girlfriend over a year ago.

Wall-E: The Fan Game!

EDIT: The download for this has been re-uploaded due to an annoying bug that by-passed a lot of the game and made it shorter. Sorry for the inconvenience.

Reading my comments back, apart from the "complex" element, you sorted it all out. And, on reflection it does suit the style of the game to have a multi-layered inventory.

I'm happy, and you're one of the greatest guys on the forums. Also not in my "people to tell to fuck off" list! ;)

Thanks :)

To stop this thread turning into a big love-in that's all I'll say. I can also then get on with playing the whole game.

No one else has mentioned the inventory yet Dual, so it's probably just me! ;)

What was my initial feedback on the inventory, by the way? I can't remember what I said.

P.S. Bookish Hunt-Down Event next, please! :)

Well done on the release, especially such an appropriate one!

I've not played much but it seems to be looking nice so far. LOTS of text, though. I'm guessing it will play a lot nicer when the voice pack gets added...

P.S. The inventory is a puzzle in itself! ;)

I'm expecting a boxed version, wrapped in a towel to arrive at my home address by 20:00GMT, precisely. ;)

Critics' Lounge / Re: Backgrounds for AGS

I think it would be better to have the light source from behind the viewpoint. Or you would have to draw the sun between the trees or something to make the shadows look less 'freaky', as Tramponline put it.

The way the background trees are blue in colour suggests this is a high point, like a verge. If you want this point to look like it is right in the middle of a forest or wood, you need to make the background trees shades of green and denser.

That's my criticism but I really like the style. It's very functional :)

OK, I hope I'm OK to dig this up, rather than start a new thread. I still have no solution to this problem.

Basically, a background image with some transparency will not work with a text window gui.

Update:
I think this is to do with the dialog options having a solid black background, which is then added on top of the transparent GUI background, as I have chosen the GUI as my "use GUI for dialog options" in General Settings.

Yeah, if you consider 640x480 as hi-res then I had this problem. I ended up starting again. You can read about it in a thread here and an article, here.

I got this working in the end. Dunno why it didn't at first... :S

No luck with that, plus it makes the mouse disappear all the time the label isn't visible. I tried it with just:

Code: ags
  if (IsInterfaceEnabled() == 0) {
      gMouselabel.Visible = false;
  }

But still no cigar. :S
#215
Sorry to dig this up but it's better than starting a new thread, right?

I have one problem with: when you click on the object/hotspot, the GUI stays on the screen (when the player talks, for example). Obviously I want it to disappear. I've done IsPauseGamed and set the visibility but that doesn't seem to help. Ideas?

Thanks.

Zombie Cow Studios, the lovely people who brought us Ben There, Dan That! and Time Gentlemen, Please! have just officially announced their new project, Privates, with Channel 4.

Go here for Zombie Cow update. Go here for the press release (text below).

Super excited about this, I've not seen a game quite like it!

London, 11th of May 2010

A BIT CLOSE TO THE BONE: Zombie Cow Studios and Channel 4 offer FIRST LOOK at new game ‘Privates’, which aims to poke a little light where the sun doesn’t shine.

BRITAIN. Land of Hope and Glory-holes. Where pregnant, waddling teenagers take up the full width of the pavement with their oversized triplet pushchairs, unaware that their rampant, perpetual humping has filled them to the brim with all manner of grotty infections.

Privates is a platform twin-stick shooter in which you lead a teeny-tiny gang of condom-hatted marines as they delve into peoples’ vaginas and bottoms and blast away at all manner of oozy, shouty monsters. It’s rude, funny, bitingly satirical and technically pretty accurate if you don’t count the tiny people or the germs with teeth.

“Privates is a totally crazy concept. It’s very exciting to finally be able to reveal what we’re up to,” said Dan Marshall, founder of Zombie Cow Studios. “We’re exploring some pretty unique gaming environments and themes… I can honestly say I can’t imagine you’ve ever played anything quite like it. These first five screenshots should give you a pretty good idea of what we’re up to, but there’s a hell of a lot more to come soon.”

“Channel 4 have been awesome in giving us a load of money and then keeping pretty quiet no matter how filthy and objectionable the content became. It’s gone really well.”

Privates boasts five whole levels of bug-busting action across a variety of gorgeous 3D locations, with a fully-voiced comedy script and a nutso soundtrack. You never know, you might even learn something handy about your downstairs-department.

Privates contains the word ‘merkin’ and is a PC and Xbox360 download developed by Zombie Cow Studios, creators of the critically-acclaimed indie title Time Gentlemen, Please!

The PC version will be available to download for free from Channel 4 and E4 websites this summer. The Xbox one will probably cost a little bit of money, we’ll see.

YES! I was really looking forward to this... Back in a bit. :)

I think I've got all that - I've created all the buttons. Where does the lump of code go, though?

And what do I replace @OVERHOTSPOT@ with?

EDIT: No worries. I worked it out. Thanks for the help, Kris.

Mouse-over hotspot label in text-window gui. How would I do this?

Basically, at the moment I have a label that appears at the bottom, in the middle of the screen when a hotspot/object is moused-over. Standard fare. How do I do this so that the label text has a border i.e. is using a text-window GUI?

The solution is probably really simple but my simple code-brain can't handle it... :P

I haven't read Ben's reply but I'm going to add my say to what AC  has said.

I agree that some randomised anecdotes during the pigeon puzzle would have been great, then, as AC says, the player would have followed 'Hurt' on their own. This extra exploration of the characters would have made the game even better than it was.

I believe I've basically said the same, in a few less words! ;)

Anyway, loved the game and what Calin/Steve did with Ben's graphics - the extra effects were beautiful.
