General Discussion / Re: Life on mars.

It's not going to impact on my world-view, that's for sure!

Interesting stuff, though, obviously.

For a minute there I thought you were talking about the amazing UK TV show, Life on Mars starring John Simm and Philip Glenister. Shame, because that was amazing!

All of those are much better, good job! :)

The last one is the best, I have to agree. I also agree with not having  := on the logo. He means absolutely sod all to me (whether this be morally acceptable or not doesn't matter!  ;D).

Critics' Lounge / Re: Company logo.

I agree, I like the Matrix but why not name your company something original?

I like Gourmet Games, for example.

Also, in light of your gourmet comment, why is the plate empty? It looks dull and doesn't really reflect the idea of 'cooking up delicious games'.

That's really impressive, you've got to make a game, now... ;)

(we aren't going to give up until you have!)

I'm quite reluctant to post in this absurd thread, but please would someone lock this?

Also, has Yahtzee dressed up to look like some of his game characters, or is he always looking that geeky?

The whole cheap glasses, fluff beard and hat thing make him look like a grown man with a 16 year-old geek stereotype's head.

Just looking at him makes me a bit angry. But mainly embarrassed.

Not sure I see the market for this, either. I like to go to a pub/bar to talk to people, etc.

A review is an opinion of one person, yes. That's why many reviews should be read before making a judgement. But if one person writing a review thinks your characters are bland, and unless they are being malicious (which I cannot believe anyone here would be) then maybe they are a little bland.

That's nothing to go deleting things over, just bear it in mind for your next project...

If only technical areas are commented on, then the art is forgotten. Far more so than if someone calls some characters bland.

As this is not the Critics Lounge that's all I have to say, though I'd like to see this made into a complete game.

I think we can get away with some critique in general discussion... ;)

And so would I! If I had the time, I would...

Thanks for all the lovely comments. :)

I'm not really sure how horizontal movement alone would work. I understand the issue with sprite scaling though, it is annoying.

Did everyone find all the animations?

General Discussion / Wall-E Fan Game (by me!)
Wed 06/01/2010 22:53:34
I thought I'd share this with everyone here... :)

I made it for my girlfriend a while back and I don't think I'll be doing anything else with it. I didn't want it to just waste away on my hard-drive.

I put it in General Discussion as I didn't think I'd get away with it being in completed games. It just a tech demo, basically.

There are no puzzles or anything, just enjoy interacting with Eve and some rubbish! ;)

Hey, you've got 6 pages of very useful critique and praise, Calin. I'd be pretty pleased! :)
#312
Are you going to keep going until you've given it a go with all of us here, then? ;)
#313
I could do with something like this too, but I'm no scripter...
#314
I seem to have found a way of getting this to work now. I think the main problem was to do with the fact that the characters feet are 3 or 4 pixels above the bottom of all the frames. Thanks for all the help guys, it's made walkable areas a lot easier for the future! :)
#315
Sounding pretty fantastic, I have to say! :)
#316
No, it isn't that...

This is very strange, I've manage to do an area where it sort of works, but the area the character will walk on doesn't seem to relate to what I've drawn in the editor at all...  :-\

EDIT:

The red shows the approximate area the character moves in in-game.
#317
There is an object but I'm not sure it's in the way. How would I check?
#318
Nah, tried that and it's still not working. It's weird, whatever I do, he gets stuck about half way along the thin bit. And only on the way back over to the right...
#319
I tried it with 3 and 4 pixels think. Still has the same problem. Also, I would have thought he would get stuck on the whole of the long bit, but the character gets confined to a small area at the very end...  :-\

It's really stumped me. There are objects in the room, that's why it's a strange shape walk area. Can't see any way they would obstruct things, though...
#320
When the player gets to the far left side of this area, he cannot walk back again, it's as if the rest gets deleted...  :-\

Help!

is it something to do with the shape? I have others in the game that are more extreme, though?
