Are you making the story with AGS? If so, how so?

Look up some Wind In The Willows (yes, I know he is a toad, but...) illustrations for the frog, and the frog in the car.

And also, the Rosie and Jim books have a nice children's style. Not sure if they still do them though...

I'm not good enough, nor free enough to have a go myself however.

I like this one:

Your original was nice, I liked it. Simple and clean. This edit works on that idea well.

I'm not keen on the glowing or any images. Clean and simple makes a good menu background methinks.

Completed it. Really liked it. Needs expanding though obviously :P

Igor has the right idea. But I don't like the style of this new one. I think the sprite at the top of the page is great. Just darken the colours a bit as loominous says, and add the brown pads to the shirt shoulders like in evil's edit. And then maybe add more of a gun holster to him.

And I'd like to compliment you on amazing looking backgrounds! I wish I could draw like that!

Umm, I've seen that before...

Make the island less deep. It doesn't look like it is flat on top of the sea at the moment, rather an island that has been lifted up and tilted towards the camera.

If you know what I mean?

I don't think the style makes use of the many pixels. Why don't you do a lowres game instead?

markbilly: those blurry clouds really hurt my eyes...

Probably a good point :P

The low res suggestion is a good one too. Or more enclosed background settings are going to be hard to do.

Not so keen on the clouds. Try this?

Or some kind of depth of field effect.

My only issue is the cap on the hat stand. Is it a cap? If so it needs to be bigger and more defined.

Otherwise, very nice :)

space boy's is spot on. On my monitor anyway :P

And it's diffraction, not dispersion :)

Oh, in parallel?

Well capacitance adds in parallel, so they will still operate, just not properly. I see what you mean. I was working on the assumption they were in series, silly me.

Check it isn't placed somewhere where air can't get around it. Sometimes overheating can lead it to restart before windows.

This is the most simple thing to check.

Oh, and sinsin, using the word "electricity" to explain the workings of a complex electronic system like a computer sort of makes things hard to understand :P

A problem with one capacitor would just full stop not allow it to boot.

me some copy-pasting:

I like this edit. But if it had to be out of the ones above, I'd say the left.

I like this one best. The colours of the city and mountain as best (unless you are going for a sun set type feel)

The sky does look a bit odd just being a solid colour though... Maybe just gradient the sky and clouds like this:

one more thing...

it's the root hole again I'm afraid... :P

doesn't it need piles of earth around it?

The path looks fab.

How are you going to get your character to appear the bob up and down the little bumps when he's walking along it? Because that would look cool :P

And the mountain now looks sufficiently distant, and so does the city. Fuzzy compared to the foreground... This works really well.

Yay! United Kingdom didn't get nil points!.

that's not a yay, it's a friggin travesty. that song was utter crap.

Maybe, but we never get any votes. It all comes from being an Island, that, God forbit! actually has a role in international affairs. Therefore of course everyone hates us! I can remember the votes after we invaded Iraq, I think most countries would have been happy to give us minus points!

Yay! United Kingdom didn't get nil points!.

I was hoping for Ukraine or Romania to win because they were funny, but as always the results were stupid.

To be honest though, I watched it here in England, solely for Terry Wogan's hilarious and deeply sarcastic comments! I do so for this reason every year.

Have you changed the contrast on the update a bit? It looks better anyway.

The ground texturing is looking fab now too.

All the things I think need doing: (I apologise for being such a critic! :P )

I've just noticed the outline of the mountains is a bit odd (the black isn't right), but I believe this section of the background isn't finished yet?

Also, the point when the path goes into the mountains looks a bit sudden, dunno how to rectify this but I'm sure you'll find a way.

The ship seems to be floating, should it be?

The hole the tree is supposed to have been ripped up out of is very small and insignificant considering the tree... It also looks like a smudge rather than a hole.

The sky has the right theme, but it looks cartoony compared to the style of the rest of the background. Maybe more shading, and cloudy-ness and fewer sharp edges and straight lines?
#600
The main tree branches also seem to clash with the sky, making them hard to define. So, like Andail says lower the saturation of the clouds, but also maybe soften the sky generally colour-wise.

This background is going to be fantastic when it's finished.
