Thanks david,

I will try my best to deliver a better game than the first one. Improving on the visual part is one of the main goals, although it's the story and the will to tell it that compelled me to come back to it.

Thanks for your support!

Story so far:

On Chapter One, Trevor Lostpick left home after his parents decided that he wasn't born for farm work. The appearance of The Northern Star to his mother with the message that Trevor was destined to a great future of adventure was made clear, not only by the fact that Trevor was born with blue eyes (something that didn't run on the family) but with a gift of a pair of blue pants.
With only some coins, a lock-pick and the desire to explore the World, Trevor arrived at Kriegson Town to start his adventure. There he met several characters that lead him to a dangerous path, to retrieve the Dwarven Dagger of Blitz from Castle Kriegson!

On this second chapter, Trevor will learn more about his destiny, make some unusual friends and give one more step to becoming a great hero of his time.
Help Trevor Lostpick on this fantastic adventure set on medieval fantasy ambience with all the clichés that we love so much.

P.S: I want to thank all the people who wrote comments on Dwarven Dagger 1, it made me realize that I had to do the second chapter. It wasn't a great game but it was made with love.

***UPDATE*17.12.11*: I got some help from 2 AGS members and the game is now ready for testing and proof-reading!

***UPDATE*1.1.12*: Testing done, the dagger is bug-free! Proof-reading taking place as I write. Soon to be released.

Oh come on guys,

give this guy a brake! Think that for a 16 year-old kid, this adventure making thing is something a bit overwhelming, coming to the forums with all the legends of AGS taking the piss is something he can't really deal with.

FIGHTS!

P.S: I'm having a good time reading all his threads and the responses he gets from you, one thing I can say is that he has spirit! He doesn't give up and he actually makes improvements from time to time...

Hi guys,

I know it is lack of respect to show up years later with a question but...

How do I tell AGS to shut down (turn off) all Guis in one go?
I currently have to do a lot of manual work turning them off.

Thanks in advance

I agree there,

this happens on all forums all over the internet, if some people do have the time to maintain and moderate it then things go smooth. The opposite situation is quite obvious.

But I do believe that ours/yours doesn't have that kind of problems, at least not a serious one.
All this years I've been coming here and I haven't seen this place stagnant, there's always a bunch of people really active and the mods are always present as well (some I've never read anything from but that's part of the experience :=).

The rating panel isn't a big deal for me as well, when I want to download a new game I just read everything related to it like the people that joined the project, pass projects, critiques and so on...

And I also think that the standard quality of new games only tend to improve, there always will be some new kid with his first game full of bugs and bad gaming choices, but this forum isn't afraid of telling people what they're doing wrong, so the next game will get better eventually.

I also feel that what maintained the forum quality is what some people consider as elitist, but that is the soul of the forums. It's not easy to get a thumbs up if you don't actually contribute to AGS or don't have the proper manners around the forum, and that's good.

So, like I said before, don't worry to much about the future, If you have something to improve and have the time for it just do it. If you don't have the time or aren't capable of improving it then just don't complain.

I haven't produce anything worth showing recently so I opted not to critique anybody's work or praise,  because I don't want to waist your time and bandwidth.
But seeing this kind of questions coming up again made me want to write this words.

Take care, and C64 rules!

First of all I want to apologise for having been away from the forums...it's been some good 2 years since I last wrote anything here.

Although, that's not entirely true, I did spend some months not coming here, until someday I realised that AGS was my homepage,  and so I begun coming here as a voyeur...and addicted voyeur!

C'mon guys, don't let yourself get discouraged, you are simply the best people on the internet! Seriously, surfing another forums of different subjects other than adventure games, I could not find anything close to the Ags forums.

You have survived the critical point where CJ declared that he didn't have the same time he used to have to work on the engine, I honestly thought that this was going down. But it didn't. And it still is great.

This subject has been discussed from time to time, either are the forums not what it used to be, or that some "important/popular" people stopped coming to the forums, etc... But the truth is that the forums are still here, for better or worse.

There's a lot of talented people here that inspire others for their love for adventure games, and they are enough.

I keep doing my games and graphics, only to throw away into some dark space of my HD, but, hey! Isn't it fun to start a different game!

And isn't it great when once in a while some great game shows up from nowhere? From a guy sitting behind is computer that shares the same love for adventure games?

And I miss that Spanish Evil-worshipper!

Keep it on guys! I truly, truly love you all!

I could not help to come here and give my opinion. Even if what I'm about to say is something you don't already know.

The whole thing about the Adventure Game genre dying is related to the fact that computer graphics like MI made an impact 20 years ago because it was a revolution on the genre.
Text Adventures suddenly became visual interactive, and what a good job they did with all those classic games we love.
Well, the thing is, even if we do it as good as they did, it will never feel new. Ok, tell me that it's not intended, but, everybody gets tired of the same thing and it's only normal to do so.

All this meaning that, we don't have the same enthusiasm when playing an adventure game if it's done like the old classic way. That's why they're called classics. We don't find it amusing to open a door using the verb open.
So, if we all, in our lives do things like picking up a stamp and take the letter to the post office and find it boring, why would we find it cool in a game? That's the past. It was cool at some point. Not anymore.

Adventure Games should be about common people role-playing some cool character on dangerous and exciting places. Picking extraordinary items, using fabulous contraptions!

Everybody knows that Portuguese are normally appointed as WORLD CLASS players, with 3 number 1's Fifa Best Player (Eusébio, Figo, C.Ronaldo). Specially Nacho, he knows that very well. ;D

Well, what are you waiting for? Is my name on the list?

"YES, YOU CAN!"

If that is supposed to be Lan, then you accomplished it very well.

And you got yourself a fan!

Ali: I see your point, great screen shots you gave. I was thinking, when I wrote the sentence, on some different movies from Disney.

I guess we can conclude that the mood needed for a scene/background is what matters when deciding on your palette, although I rather be transported and immersed to another world through "happy" colours than those somewhat depressing and foggy scenarios. But that's only my own taste speaking.

Saying this, I wouldn't want Blade Runner to have its colours changed a single bit :)
#1633
Don't want to star a discussion that is far from the initial post, but as I said, I'm working on drawn images and this topic is very useful to me.

Saying that, I do believe that until AGS is not capable of adding such atmosphere effects mentioned in a comfortable way, games made with it, that have higher resolutions should adopt a colourful, high contrast visual as to appeal to the general public.
Imagine all those Disney movies having their colours desaturated, they just wouldn't be the same.

Someone mentioned "The Marionette" (great game!) and it balances very well the issue in hands.

Here's my humble opinion as I am also going for a similar style on my current project:

Although you've said the background is not finished, I think you could pick stronger colours on both character and BG.
Successful adventure games rely on strong colours and it does look a bit washed away...

But I'm not answering your question, Am I? Well I think you got it the right way, see, if you put on cleaner/darker lines on the BG it will look flat, this way there's a sense of depth.

What I don't like is the gradients, I prefer more drawn detail and maybe stronger painted shadows.
The handle on the door turned out perfect but not the cupboard ones.

This said, your character looks very good as the rest of the image does, it's clearly above average in it's own style.

Thanks for the tutorial, Andail.
Coincidence or not, it was exactly what I needed.

Great work!
#1636
I don't expect any of those because it simple is not allowed to the common people.
And that is a choice made by somebody for a lot of people.
#1637
"We are capable of making our own choices (in democracies at least). ", how much of that sentence is exactly true?

I'm afraid that life's choices are very limited right now, and I do think that modern societies are profit oriented.
The price of land has risen so much that most people can only expect to live in a building surrounded by pollution and noise. A house in the country costs the amount of bricks it took, water pipes, electric connections, sewer facilities and a roof, and I know what I'm talking because my grandfather built his house.
This days you have to pay for an architect that will charge you what he wants, the City Hall will send inspectors to verify the quality of the building as if they will ever live there, and they will arrange a "workaround" so that the project goes through, and because all those materials are so damn overpriced you'll get to a final bill that clearly exceeds the real price of the house.
And that's if you want to build it, when comes to buying the price rises 5 to 10 times or even more depending on the location.

So, how come we have a choice here? We have the choice of not having a house and to live on a apartment...

Governments are elected by us, that is the truth. But sometimes I think I have to choose between Darth Vader, Dr. No or even Goldfinger!

It's strange that this topic has surfaced again!

I have to agree with you there, Rick. A businessman should not be accused of immorality because he makes a profit, given that he pays his taxes, hires people and doing so benefits his social universe.

I always found the communist notion that the rich should pay more taxes than others (this happens in my country) quite wrong. What I don't agree is when rich people do not declare what they earn. Now that's immoral.

If a man makes his money legally then to aim for a better profit isn't immoral.

The problem here is that money generates money, making the businessman someone powerful enough to buy goods at lower prices and with bonuses when buying large quantities that clearly inflate it's real price.

I own a coffee shop, the more merchandise I buy the cheaper it gets, it gets to a point that I can sell things that didn't cost me anything. Now, imagine the profit margin that  huge hypermarkets get!
What's the price for the same bottle of whisky around the globe? How much does it really costs?
Who cares, it's a luxury item, but lets talk about a litre of milk, it costs cents (euros) to produce but it can be sold at whatever price I'm willing to sell...

Returning to some early posts, I think that, yes, we've came this far and the world is a much better place to live for developed countries, healthcare is indeed one of humanity's biggest achievements, but my question is why doesn't the rich world regulate prices for primary needed goods?
If we were really advanced and morally evolved than we'd come to the conclusion that food shouldn't be something to earn money from. Having food and water should be something as normal as breathing.
Governments should handle food production to supply the right amount for every citizen. They should supply energy so that people would not freeze to death on winters.
Everything else is luxury if we really think about it.
And everything else besides basic survival items could and should be rated or priced according to free market rules.

Morality is something very subjective, and because something is legal it doesn't mean that the maker of that law had any moral sense.

I knew I would feel very dumb after I got an answer...

That was indeed the problem,
thank you very much Vukul
