This happens during game play:
I'm getting a strange behaviour when, for example, I try to examine an inventory item.
It seems like only the top half of the item gets examined...if I click on the lower half of the sprite it doesn't trigger the function.

I've got an hotspot set for when an inventory object is picked, and it is on the top left corner of the sprite, could this being interfering?

If this is too noobish I apologize but it's getting into my nerves!!!

And I thought he was starting another religion thread... :=

some more work in progress, I can't remember last time I had so much fun!...Well, I can, but that doesn't matter now...

I did just a small sprite, yellow filled circle on a red background.
imported to AGS and chose top left pixel as transparent, tried during game play and it worked;
next I opened the sprite editor (photo7) and just painted the background blue, assigned blue as transparent, saved and quited back to the editor.
The result is a blue box with a yellow circle in the middle...

anyway, thanks for the help, I got used to it and it's not a big deal anyway.

well guys, I've done all that and can't get it to work...

There's no problem here, as I just workaround it,

to all that helped me I thank you and wish for happy game making.

I know that monkey,
when I say the sprite is pink squared I mean during testing my game...

This is what's happening: when I import a sprite and set it's transparent pixel being top-left or whatever position, it works;
                                     when I import a sprite and the background color is "magic" pink, it works;
                                     WHEN I try to edit a sprite using AGS option to do so, and after SAVING the sprite, when quiting the paint program (PAINT and PHOTOSHOP7 used) it does not work, runing the game will show that sprite pink squared and not transparent as it should appear.

I did some cheesy Movie Player Video a few weeks ago that had a Joy Division playing along and some hours after I published it on youtube they cut out the sound but left the images.
But I guess that only a few seconds of copyrighted music may pass...

Ok, well I've been doing just that Khris,

Edit a sprite, Save, then Exit. Ran the program and it was pink squared...

Then I did all those steps again but before starting the game I did "revuild all files" first, but the result wasn't better...

sorry for only answering now monkey_05_06,

well, the sprites in the editor do show up pink and I'm using 16bit graphics on the game...
I do use "Save" to save the file regarding it's a internal file from AGS, I use "Save As..." to save the sprite and then reimport it as I don't seem to get it working.

I'll try and edit the sprite in photoshop and not MSpaint and get back to you...

Thanks

----Not working, does everybody use alpha channels? Is that the reason I can't get it to work?------

it doesn't work somehow,
I save the ags sprite file and quit, returning to the editor and the sprite gets color squared even with the magic pink!
I must be really dumb, oh well I just save it and reimport it
#1651
Is this the same pink color MSPaint has on it's palette?

Layabout: yup, got that...I've updated the image, now with longer legs, shorter torso

abstauber: will do that, I'll send you the scanned drawing later this day, thanks!

Sorry if this was talked about before but after a quick search I didn't find anything.

My question is:

When opening a sprite with the paint program that I defined as default for the purpouse of correcting, say, minor pixels, I have to "Save As..." to a previous sprite file, quit and re-import the sprite.
I can't just save it and quit & return to AGS editor because the transparent pixel will not work thus having a colored square surrounding the sprite.

Is this common or am I doing something wrong?
I'm using 3.1 SP1

Thanks Grim,
I'm working on those clouds!

Here's a sketch for the main character:

Updated legs size...

Ok, sorry, now I understand what you mean!

I found a simple way to paint the white spots on Photoshop,

I select an area with the lasso tool and then pick the brightest color,
then I select "color range" so that only bright colors (white and similar) are selected,
then I just paint it over with low opacity.

I've updated the outside screen again with some more improvements...

Layabout: I'm doing that now and getting better at it, thaks a lot for the tip!

abstauer: I've never used vectors, does that mean that the lineart will be erased on the final outcome?

Danman: I'm never gonna use "fill" again!!! Damn white spots!

Well I can see your point of view and understand what you're saying.

But even if things like "fun" cannot be measured easily, it's still the opinion of a judge that counts in the end, and that takes me back to "Uncut" magazine. When criticising a song or an album you can see on the same number/month that the same album has different ratings because it was analysed by different critics.
What happens is that I got to know how they think music is or should be and so I know that if that critic says "it's not bad" than I know I should buy it because it's good to my standarts, and if another one says "Top quality release" then I know there's no point buying it because we aren't in the same "wave".

What I mean and think is that we should have something of the two worlds:
    - yes to %'s and numeric ratings translated to cups;
    - yes to a final critic by someone that does sign what he wrote;

This way someone searching the database may download a game by me with a poor critic but in the end discover that it had some nice moments and he enjoyed it.
The next game he'll download criticised by the same critic he will know that, that particular critic, is someone that values high level completed results and therefore the downloader knows it's fine for his standarts.
Eventually he'll find a huge positive critic to a game by the same person, then he'll know for sure that the game in question should be top quality.

Anyway, whatever you decide is ok to me, good games allways come to surface, maybe they need time. Look at sites like abandonia and related for an example. It was crap back then but now people want to play them.

As a member of this great community and maker of crappy games I want to say that a 6 cup ranking would fit better.

All the considered demands and skills would be given a percentage by the board, like:

Art : 30%
Story : 50%
Tech skill: 20%
...and so on...

If the board shows those numbers or not it's a different issue,

the result of the combination of this percentages would be automatically turned into cups:
0 - 20 % - 1cup
20% - 40% - 2 cups
40% 55% - 3 cups
55% - 70% - 4 cups
70 - 90% - 5 cups
90 - 100% - 6 cups

InCreator, cheer up my talent internet friend!
As you can see by other posts here, the only painfull bag of bricks you have to carry (maybe for your long, long life) is that you are an artist. And art, my friend is a lonely process.

My advice is: try to work on a team with the guys here, don't try to do everything!
Do sprites, or music for a project. Give advice, find bugs!

Limit yourself because things happen when they have to. And I'm talking about everything here, girlfriends, jobs, friends, sucessfull or not AGS games, good songs/bad songs!

We've all been there at a moment of our lives, and one thing is sure, things can only get better!

I've updated the outside screen with some differences...

Auriond: thanks for that, I'm using it right now even for characters;

MrCheminee: I get your point, maybe with some layers on top I can soften them...

Layabout: When I did the scan I was using "Fill" to paint the BG and I had to use "Find Edges" to cover the white gaps, that's why the lineart got so prominant, I'll try to play with those layers (depth and atmospherics) you're talking about.

GarageGothic: thanks for the link, I'll dive into it today.

Thanks to all!
