Scotch: I didn´t explain myself very well then.
what I mean is, IF the main char isn´t on the room, will other character make the room scroll?

and another thing, what may look pretty obvious to you doesnt mean it is for me, I use AGS for the fun of making my stupid little games wich I like and so far I haven´t been incorrect or told anybody if he/she was beeing obvious or not

is the player character what triggers the room scroll? if it is, then, if I change its view I can have a scrolling room with any sprite I want to use?

Hello to all,
it´s not often that I adress to you, but the subject wich you are talking about is the reason that we are all here, isn´t it?
If about 900 people join a comunity of adventure-gaming-devlopment it´s because they want to be part of the adventure genre movment!

When I found AGS (last december) I was just searching the net for free adventures to download, so I got Cruise for a Corpse, GK2, Operation Steallth, and some other old games, then I found AGS, and the possibility to make my own adventures! So, I just can´t leave the forums and AGS, and why? Because Adventure Games aren´t dead!
And how many of you did buy Syberia or The longest Journey? I know I did!
It´s true that games like Mafia, Splinter Cell, etc... allow you to have conversations, and to solve some puzzles, and they are great experiences of game playing. but in the end I always want to go back to beeing a pirate wannabe, or get the Loom feeling, or go on a night´s out with Larry.
   THEMES:
What we are missing here is that the themes of new adventures have to be modern, new, and original!
there´s no point about doing a pirate adventure or a space trek adventure and you all know why!
Somebody on this thread talked about the Sims and about the milions that played that game since it was released, somebody talked about diablo, and they are right!
New games have to be NEW! Did you play CMI4? I hope not! Have you seen the BrockenSword screenshots? I just have a bad feeling about it.
We love point & click games, but we love funny,well drawn, nice atmosphered p&c games! It´s that simple.
It´s a cult, that´s what AGS is.

I saw NewRoomEx on the help files but it only applyes to the player char

when moving a npc to a diferent room is it possible to set it´s X,Y positioning?
Im sure it is but I couldn´t find script commands for that;

Advanced Technical Forum / using regions once

 hello to all,
in this room I´m working on, I have a npc walking to a place when the main character steps onto a region.then a dialog starts,
all works well, but I want it to just happen once.
is that possible?
can we still use stand over hotspot?

I used the technical forum because I got no answer on the beguiners forum, I know you people don´t have time for everything but still it is a new feature!

EDIT - don´t know what to make of this but it seems that the dialog just runs once now (ok), and I think it has to do with the time when the main character steps onto the region, I have objects moving as well, and I think it makes the engine not working well?!?

thanks, but on the newer versions, "player stands on hotspot" became absolete
      or didn´t?

hello,
my question is a simple one,
I want that my main character talks to a npc ONCE. I used a variable to determine that and used it like:
talk
   if a variable is set to 1
   then run dialog(x)
   set variable to 0

I thought this would work but it looks like ags executes the set variable to 0 comand first the the run dialog

how can I make it work?

   you might find it strange that I post something in this forum and maybe many of you don´t even know me, but that doesn´t matter, the reason that made me post here is to let you know that a member of AGS comunity, RatRacer, just recentlly had is game, THE UNCERTAINTY MACHINE, on the best selling computer magazine in Portugal, wich you may say it´s a small market but the adventure type comunity is growing up and RatRacer sure did a good job!

yep, the robot trows water on the floor when moving
because it´s a character, it uses the view frames when moving left,right,up....
