General Discussion / Re: Good Movies You Hate

Sorry, I've probably misinterpreted this thread (again), but Japanese Netflix film 'Mother' (2020). Wonderfully casted. Beautifully shot. The story moves along quickly but it is not disjointed in any way. But Christ, that was depressing. So depressing I wish I hadn't seen it, and actually I completely hate that I saw it. I will never watch this good movie again! (laugh)

(Hope nobody minds us going down this rabbit hole for a moment!)

My son and I have played the game for months (albeit only for a few hours on weekends) and we're still only Greenpath/City of Tears areas. (roll) There's something the game gets very right about its music though, and I think that's a big reason why I like it so much. I'd say Greenpath is the favourite stage I've seen so far because the colour switch from drab Crossroads was big news for my son and I ( (laugh)) and the music reminds me of a moment in my past I feel sentimental about (it starts at exactly 9:00, in case this link doesn't position properly):

The other track I really like is 'Reflection', which is unique but sort of reminds me of that nice theme song from American Beauty. (It actually also loosely reminds me of music from your game, Doors! I think I commented on Doors music in another thread.) Here it is (starts at 15:21):

How about you? Any favourite stages I should be looking forward to? You know, we should probably just start a Hollow Knight thread. There's a lot to talk about! (laugh) I just looked at a Hollownest map and, yeah, that's a big game.

I might have shared this before, but we've been playing Hollow Knight again. The soundtrack is very nice:

Yay Hollowknight! I absolutly can´t wait for Silksong to be released :) Maybe in the meantime I will try "Celeste", it is said to be a little similar.

Cool thanks for the lead! Hadn't heard of Celeste. Yeah, I'm also looking forward to Silksong, but we're still such a long way from finishing Hollow Knight. (laugh) It's a really long game!

Guys, I encourage you to submit your titles even if unfinished. Just tack on a 'to be continued...' and give the community whatever you have. Don't let these titles gather dust on some corner of your hard drive for the next ten years.

If it helps: Nothing (I repeat: nothing!) could be as unfinished as my 'white elephant' title from September. (laugh) Let that be a motivator for you to just get your title out there and add to a competition around a great theme.

I always thought they were dissolved by all the acid of Ron Gilbert's spite and hubris...

Haha (laugh) actually it's interesting in the article to see how Ken Williams actually viewed the evolving medium of games and how he considered Disney and Microsoft to be his true competitors in the space (as opposed to LucasArts or Broderbund).

Yeah, I really enjoyed the article. Must have been such a cool time to be involved in the gaming industry. Actually, Metal Jesus, who worked at Sierra once upon a time, made this really cool vid explaining what it was like to be a part of that world (the good, bad and ugly):

Like a lot of us here, I grew up playing ALL of their games and staying abreast of upcoming company projects/endeavours (as much as possible) through their publications and the tidbits you could glean from a few places on the internet in the 90s. Their repeated hit titles and general prominence in PC gaming made the seemingly ‘sudden’ disappearance of Sierra quite shocking â€"how could a company pushing tech boundaries in gaming for two decades burn up faster than Roger Wilco on Ortega without his thermoweave underwear?! (laugh)

Despite what I could read online at places like Ken’s blog, the story of Sierra’s final act has always been kind of murky. For anyone else interested, this Vice piece sheds a really interesting light into what happened: https://www.vice.com/en/article/z3vem8/inside-story-sierra-online-death-cuc-cendant-fraud

Haggis, I've got this on again mate. I get the feeling this track spawned a thousand failed marriages. (laugh) I'm not crazy about the vocals, but the hook is quite catchy.

Loving that John Moreland...

Recently I've been listening to this...

I like your tracks, Haggis. This one is really nice.

I watched the vid yesterday and thought it looked cool, Kyriacos.  8-) Looking forward to playing it!

I also like the thought of a bear so large that it sandwiches its paws simultaneously into opposite sides of the phone booth. (laugh) (laugh)
#354
Haha I think I like that answer better, but no! (laugh)
#355
That’s creative, but no.

The riddle I heard is limited to the above description, and it indeed gives you all the clues you need to get the answer. However, I might just add that the fishing trip was a success. Prior to his death, the man did indeed catch a rather large fish.
#356
I think I might have told this one before, but have a go if you haven’t heard it:

There is a dead man slumped in a phone booth. Blood everywhere. There are two identical holes through opposite sides of the phone booth. The phone receiver is dangling by its wire and a fishing rod is leaning against the outside of the phone booth. The man was not hit by a projectile entering/exiting the phone booth.

How did the man die?
#357
@Jack I like your version way better!  (laugh) (My personal preference. I agree the other style can also be fun in certain contexts, but I mostly just prefer having complete details and mulling the problem over in my mind.)
#358
That’s the problem with these types of ‘riddles’ is that there’s so much room within which to make an answer fit. Your answer would work, Mandle. Or could be she opens a door and it’s a surprise party held to announce a family’s adoption of her. (Insert a hundred other examples...)

Here’s the answer to the original version I heard:

Spoiler
Her parents kept her locked in the basement from the day she was born. She somehow manages to open the basement door for the first time.
[close]

Lol how could anyone figure that out? It’s more aptly labelled a lateral thinking problem than a riddle.
