Well its not dead. there will be a MAGS version and there will be eventually a finished version

*sigh*
I'll probably stop developement where it is right now. I'm already far behind schedule and became extremely frustrated this morning, over a lot of small things that will take a lot of time to fix, about things not working out as planed and so on..
I should use the day to make some big progress but right now I'm just too frustrated. My social life has been suffering too, so I came to the point where I need to pull the emergency break. It's frustrating as hell to not finish a game again but this is what it is now.

The release version will feature the demo which is about 10mins of gameplay. I'll add some sound effects and ptp is doing the music and then release it.
I'm planing to finsih this up as most of the BGs are already done.

Sorry guys.

I've seen paul on the sneak a few weeks ago so i didnt have any expectations. It was an ok movie I guess but you only caught a glimpse of the old spirit in very few scenes. The rest was quite standart amercan comedy that didnt hurt anyone.

'Shaun of the Dead'.  I loved that when it first came out... I can't stand Simon Pegg anymore though.

In case anyone doesn't know it: Spaced, Simon Pegg's pre-Shaun of the Dead sitcom is one of the best British sitcoms around. It's not a spoof of one genre, like Police Squad, but it's full of parodies. This compilation starts with the beginning of the second series, taking off Goodfellas/Manhattan and a tiny bit of Blade Runner:

Spaced is my all time favourite Tv-Series. The amount of movie references is unbelievable. Always something new to discover.
If you like the Pegg/Frost combination you should definetely watch Shaun of the Dead which is a clever spoof of zombie movies and Hot Fuzz! which parodies buddy action movies

Yet the gameplay and story are different.

Ok the first demo is finished.
If you want to become a tester, send me a PM

Here's a screen from the intro to get your attention:

I'll just copy and paste Whams post.
because its exactly the same here:

Status update: I've got about 50% of graphics done, as well as about 50% of scripting done. (I aim to get both of those numbers above 75% during the coming weekend). -well probably not really

I think I've already made the most difficult bits, now all I have left to do is to get a lot of tedious copy/paste to get all the aspects of the game working as intended.

Also: I believe I have  found someone new to do the music, and so far this seems to be starting up nicely. I might end up requesting a few days of extension, but I will do my best to avoid that situation on my part.

Anyway: chapter one is ready for testing. No music and sound effects but all the fancy fmv stuff is already in there. So far only Matti said he wants to do some testing. Maybe someone else wants to help?

@Wham: Good luck with finishing up your game.
@Matti: good luck with the game - so many contestants this is gonna be best mags eva!

I'm wondering: Is anyone here working on a point and click adventure?

Thanks a lot Ilych! I actually will use that for the game.

Well I know that trolls are supposed to be a threat for the community and all.
But lets consider two things:
Theres just one guy here who is said to be a troll, an opinion that I don't share and that I think is really insulting and unfair towards someone whos just a little different. Especially if its someone whos obviously trying really hard and has made some good progress.
Seeking attention does not automatically make you a troll. Its probably just a typical behaviour of a 14-16 years old.

Secondly. Damn, these threads are entertaining. I really enjoy reading them and the absurdly hilarious situations. Its not like the whole board's been flooded. Is just a few threads.

So my opinion here is: Let's not make this a which hunt. Just relax and dont take everything so seriously.

Thats actually a good idea - this way I can also find a better and more consistent compromise between speed and quality. I'll try that!.

Choose from these.
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/World's_most_livable_cities

Vienna? Zurich?
The most livable cities? No way! A lot of German cities on mercers list. But why isn't Berlin on there?

Munich on place 1 at monocles list? I'd rather die than live there.

Seriously these are all nice and secure cities - but I have seldom seen such unpolite and arrogant people as in Munich (I live very near and been there often). Zurich is rather unspectacular and insanely expensive.

Well I see that you're from cape town? That would be a city to choose for me. I really loved it. Sure as a tourist and all. But I know quite a few people who live there or lived there and they all love it - if it wasnt for the crime of course.

New Zealand would probably be my first choice too. I'd actually like to go there for half a year or something if I find work.

@Arj0n: Meh I don't know - they kind of restricted the selling of weed to foreigners :(
Well seriously its a really nice country - but a little to flat for my taste and a little too expensive.
@Mode7: They do restrict the selling of weed to foreigners.
But once you elope and become an official person from Holland/The Netherlands, you are not a foreigner anymore...  ;)

What would you prefer - entirely game-based, or entirely video-based? The reason for releasing episodes in different media is that it's supposed to be confusing and disorientating due to the nature of the main character's dreams, so I'm happy for it to appear inconsistent at first. As each episode is watched / played, it will become obvious that there is consistency to the specific media used. However, what do you mean by inconsequential?

Well, I think it depends on how its pulled off. I admit that it could be a very powerful if its pulled off in a convincing way. Either way I'm looking forward to your project.

I've been working on a short episodic 'film' (if you can still call it that), each episode created with a different medium - one will be live-action, another stop-motion animated, one rotoscoped, etc. The idea is that the main character struggles through a series of interrelated dreams, understanding more about himself and the situation he is in each time.

Sounds like waking life - i love that movie.
Well I dont know i you need a reward system for an interactive movie as the story should be reward enough.
Well two concepts you should consider are non-linearity and interactivity. The frist meaning that there is a possiblity to expericencing different parts of the story in a different order which (and that is most important) makes an impact on how the player/view perceives the story. Its not just about which video to play first but with whom the player will identify - which part of the story he/she will experience and for example get a different impression when playing the game again.
Second concept is about if to give the player a choice (or at least the illusion of a choice) the problem here is to think of important and meaningful choices preferably the core conflicts of the story.
I think the important thing here in an interactive movie is to subordinate everything to the narrative on contrary to a game where you subordinate everything to the "play" element (which is only partly true for adventure games which have several different positions between the two)

Well i dont really like the idea with releasing a part as movie and another one as game - but thats more of a personal preference cause I think its a little inconsistent if not inconseqent.

mode7, what problems did you have with it?
I'm using opera. When i installed orbit it hooked up on it and caught downloads from the browser. This was one of the many annoying reasons that made me uninstall orbit. Now when i want to download something theres just a window saying "your download has been transfered to orbit downloader" (which i had uninstalled long ago) so i have to manually copy the download link to the download window. I wasnt wale to get rid of that till today.

Thx Ilyich. Yeah drwaing some thin tark line in the first one is probably a good and easy way. I'll try it out when i get back to my tablett tonight.

UPDATE:
Tried to fix it. What do you think?

Just use OGV (theora) it works best for me in AGS and it gets compiled into the exe which is an advantadge to.

This encoder works very well for me:

Extension would be probably appreciated. My engine is up and running so far though a little glitchy. The BGs are taking more time than expected but there's steady progress. I will have the first level out for testing at the middle of next week. If you want to do some testing you could send me a PM.

I heard the problem with XNA is that it has some issues with running in windows - at least I heard so. And AFAiK it requires silverlight. Makig games run on the Xbox seems interesting though.
