Do you mean the game crashed? What kind of error do you still remember?

Oh, good. But some hint please. I think I already tried everything on everything.

Spoiler
Well, you have a iron rod...maybe you can use it to break something a few screens back with it

Ascovel, you're not at the end of the game. It is possible to get through the first door with the computer console. There's just a puzzle, you havent solved yet ;)

Congrats Hedge, hilarious game and by far the best use of the theme. Maybe you could extend on the idea in the future.
And thanks to everyone else who participated. This was quite a ride indeed!

thanks for all the nice critique! I really appreciate it! As I mentioned before i will give the engine a little overhaul before continuing. Namely braking the running up into 4 instead of 2 steps, which makes it much more precise when falling down and far jumping. I'll also implent some mechanism that makes you stop at an edge when walking.
Actually, I could have fixed that by now but I have to do quite a lot of work for university (which I didn't do because I was busy playing portal 2)

Anyway...
Damn...I just saw whams post down here. No way Kotaku. This is...good I guess. Unless Radiohead is going to sue me....

Blaming AGS for the stuff I did is not really fair. If its buggy its my fault and not ags one.
Apparently some people are a bit put off because of the animations. Yes they are mostly traced over the flashback frames. I honestly didnt think much about rotoscoping rotoscoped animations would be that much of a big deal, especially as I didn't have that much time equipment or even room to capture these animations myself.
As for Thom Yorke..well - that was the first picture I found on my HD. He didn't come to record the facial expressions though - I had to do them myself. :=

Thanks for pointing this out ProgZMax. The first door is actually a puzzles you might have missed. That you still could go trough after loading is a rather serious bug. The one with the second one is a serious game breaker. I'll hotfix that when i get home today.

The platforming issues i will adress next week. I want the engine to be functioning perfectly before progressing in making the game.

Thanks for the bug report, ill look into that.

Thanks everyone for the feedback.

IMPORTANT REQUEST

If you had particular trouble at an certain area (like the door) or if you even stoped playing because of frustration. Please tell me so I can improve it and i'd be very happy if you even have improvement suggestions.

Arggggg  >:(, I have reached a point where I can't continue and I don't know what I'm doing wrong  :-[

Spoiler
I'm in the screen where a door is closing and a red sign is flashing. I jump the hole while running but I'm never able to go through the door, no matter how fast I do the operation. I've tried keep running after jumping and also getting close to the door and then crouch and roll, and, although visually I should be able to pass because there is enough room I can't

Am I doing something wrong?
[close]

Well I just tried it again and it worked right away. Just jump the gap and keep on running.

EDIT: Did you try this version or the one from the mags thread. This one is easier

About time that I post this here:

Concurrence

About the game
Concurrence is a so called cinematic platform game. Unlike other platform games you will know (like „Super Mario Bros.“ or „Sonic the Hedgehog“), this game focuses on realisitic movements, puzzles and a dense atmosphere. If you have played games like ‚Prince of Persia‘, ‚Another World‘ or ‚Flashback‘  you will know what awaits you. Many of parts of the game will require precise jumping and you might feel a little frustrated at the beginning. But don‘t despair,  study the movements described in this manual and keep on practicing and you will find that it isn‘t so hard after all (you also have unlimited continues). This version was done for the april 2011 Monthly Adventure Game Studio Competition (MAGS) and does not feature the full game. It‘s more of a demo. The finished version will follow sometime 2011.  ptp88 composed a great soundtrack for the game.
- Have fun playing

Story
My blood was beating against my skull as the blazing sunlight and the piercing screams of the bird-like creatures give me a rough awakening from a dreamless sleep. I was wearing an astronaut suite, but my helmet was missing. The steaming pile of metal right next to me indicates that its some kind of vehicle and that it probably brought me here. Where was I?....Who was I? Who sent me here and for what reasons?
As looked to the sky, shielding my eyes from the bright sunlight, I suddenly realized that these questions had to wait. I had to get leave this place. Now. Time was running out for me. As I know today: In more than one sense....

Ok I give my two cents on the entries:

15mins:
My favourite so far. Short and easy puzzles. But great presentation nice music and quite funny. Also best use of the theme.

City of thieves:
Cool idea. I DID like the lock picking sequence. Much more fun than the one in oblivion. Rendered GFX work for me too.
Screams to be a full game

Essence:
Nice animations. The engine is also working quite well. My only problem is that you cant skip the intro after watching it 3 times (after dying 3 times) I gave up. Will try again- promised!

OSD 3d
I already wrote my opinion in the thread

Run away
Are the levels procedurally generated? This is quite impressive - the scrolling is a bit anoying. As said before more of a framework than a game.

Lurking horror
I did but the dying animation was well worth it. Cool atmosphere. I really WAS scared.  Begs to have a little more atmospheric BGs.

Overall the amount and quality of this months mags is extremely high. Will be a though vote

misunderstanding - although ptp WILL do the music for dualnames troica ^^

I will just try to ignore all this discussion and say my opinion on the game cause thats what I feel this thread should be about:

Honestly speaking this is a rather pointless fight sequence, like in some of your earlier games.
Its like playing a very small part of a actual game. theres some story which is completely out of context so it doesn't has any relevance and thats all I can say. I didn't try the 3d stuff because the crosseye thing is the worst option for 3d i can think of.

Some advise if you want it:
There's nothing wrong with drawing inspiration from Final Fantasy. That was one of the reason I started making games. They tell a epic (yet often quite stupid) story and present it in a cinematic style. What I never liked about FF games is the mindless fighting. I was still willing to go through that because I wanted the story to go on.

Maybe you should focus more on the other aspects of FF next time. Especially trying to tell a story from beginning to end (^^ kind of a stupid advice from me I know)

Gear Blade DX was a good beginning try to prosecute that approach. Your art is getting better and better. Time to evolve!

Voting doesn't work for me.

@mode7:
Spoiler
I'm at the blast door, however I can't do anything. I picked up the rod and still have the shard in my inventory but I can't use them anywhere and I can only look at the console.

I'm probably again missing something obvious, the jump I couldn't figure out was explained right there in the pause menu, stupid me :=
Hint 1
Spoiler
You are missing an item..maybe some back tracking might help you..

Hint 2
Spoiler
You still havent discovered all locations

Solution
Spoiler

ok I'm back from my boozing spree:

@Khris: you can perform a standing jump by pushing shift+up
Sorry the movements aren't documented better (you can hit esc though) the full version will feature a context driven tutorial

@ProgZmax: Thanks for your comments. The stagger thing is a excellent idea. Its on my  list already.  Its true that the painted bg doesnt always match up that good with the grid based level design. I will try to improve this and make some tweaks here and there.
I don't see how the game is buggy apart from that. Could you be more precise.

@Everyone else: Thanks for your lovely comments. The timelimit for the door is a little too tight. I might expand it.

I completely forgot to emphasize that a lot of credit for the games dense atmosphere goes to ptp88 (Analog Guy) and his awesome music and sound effects. Thank you buddy and sorry for not mentioning earlier.

Strange what os are you on?
Anyone else getting this error

If anyone getting problems with the save system: Just hitting R while startup will override it.

Damn I slept in... ::)
Ok guys lets roll!!!
#98
I'd say release it - no matter what state it is in. Its frustrating to do something for a competition and ending up submitting nothing at all.
#99
Almost finished here too. As I decided to release an non final version i had some time to polish things up. Added some great music and sound effects by ptp which really thicken the atmosphere. Theres a lot of already finished content that wont be in this version though.
Good luck to all the other contestants!
