I thought the major definition of 'forum' was 'a place to come together for discussion'? Certainly pre-internet it was, and I figured that was why internet forums were called 'forums'. So a 'philosophy forum' sounds perfectly sensible to me.

I ... have nothing else to add. Sorry. Maybe there's just something about philosophers that keeps them off the internet?

I didn't just mean a forum on the internet. It's not just "things that are man made", it's "works of man". I've just bean reading the human condition (not the be all, end all, but still lol), and the way philosophers had defined philosophy was that it was equal in terms to contemplation. Coming together to talk about it made it political (not the modern usage of the word), so any definition of forum would've changed it from one to the other. Anyway, it was philosophy joke. Lol. I kill me.

On topic, no luck on . Well, at finding anything other than what was given already.

EDIT: Changing my search to "philosophical" instead of "philosophy" did make a difference!

If you're making a free game, is there a point to having a demo at all?

I think yes, if you are putting a lot of work in and still want to maximize the amount of people that play it. Plus, it's kind of a nice way to get feed back ahead of time, before you completely finish a game.

Isn't a forum on philosophy kind of a funny idea? A philosopher is a thinker, and not a person of action, an action being anything that can be defined as a work of man. Which I believe a forum must be. Haha. I don't know of any just yet. I'm still just reading a few books on the subject, but I'd like to see if anyone has any links for you!

I liked the demo for the first Blackwell game myself. It wasn't really long or short, because everyone gets through adventure games at a different pace, but it gave you a nice dosage of the mystery, the pleasing art, and a little ghost cameo. It didn't get into the game's plot line much, but it set everything up right in the demo, and made you want to finish (or start, I suppose) the story. It also introduced you to Dave's cool take on the inventory system.

I've also played some games before where the demo was actually not the beginning of the game, but somewhere in the middle. It was cool, because when I got the game, I wasn't just trudging through the demo to get to the new stuff.

I love that the bringing of pants is in question. Bring rain slickers. It's windy, and a lot of water is falling from the sky. I wanna live in TV Florida. That's place looks amazing.

I don't mean this in a lazy way at all, but that's just not going to happen. Where I'm at right now is that I'm made an actual physical board game, and we're working out the rules and strategies. I'm going to refine it and make it as fun as I can, and hopefully find someone one day interested in programming it for money. My time is already spread pretty thin when I'm working (something I'll be able to start again soon), and my interest in any programming goes about as far as learning some scripting in AGS. I'd say the art and writing are more my interest in the hobby :)

I've been checking out a bunch of other communities online, and maybe one day I'll make the right contact. So as far as what I asked in the original post the responses have been really helpful.

EDIT: I don't mean to sound down on SpacePaw's response though. If I were willing to go that route, it would've been helpful in setting me in the right direction.

At least the 360 didn't give itself the RROD.

Hey, thanks to the both of you. I went ahead and posted a thread under help wanted, as it'd be nice to keep close to this community on this, as I've come to rely on, and trust, the opinions and crits of a lot of you guys. If this turns out to be a bad fit for AGS then, I'll move on (for THIS game, that is.)

Thanks again =]

Looking for a scriptor for board game type of project. The game will be a 1 player (obviously =] ) versus board game, chess-like in that the small amount of pieces each have different moves and limitations, and the computer will have to be able to play within the same rules. I have a few neat ideas that should seperate it from from the average "game piece + board = game" formula. Sorry to be a little vague, but anyone interested enough to pm can check out the design doc thus far.
A large reason I'd like to keep it in AGS is that while it'll be it's own release when done, I'd really like to include it as a mini game in a future project I've been writing for a while.

It's a pet project on the side for me, so it's an easy going type of attitude toward development scedule, so if you're interested but busy, still feel free to contact me. I just want to see it someday done.

To the mods,

I made a seperate post just because I didn't want the images on my last post to cause someone that might be interested in this, but not the adventure game, to pass it by.

Thanks All!

General Discussion / Other Indie Game sites
Sat 28/03/2009 20:19:00
I was wondering if anyone knew of other indie game developer forums and such outhside of here. I can't really seem to find what I'm looking for on Google, though I'm sure it's probably my fault =]

I have a board game-esque design, but it got away from me a bit, and I'm not sure AGS is the best thing to make it with. Problem is, I know zip about programming anything in anything, so I don't know what language or whatnot to request help for.

It has chess like moves (different pieces move diferent ways) and it would need a fair enough simulation of AI. I didn't want to post for help with the game if it turns out it dosn't even really belong in AGS. So any ideas on the game itself, or suggestions about other developers forums would be awsome.

Thanks buuuuuuddies.

Sprite artist / animator needed. We're not looking for someone to do the whole job, just to help share the burden a bit. Here's a sample of what we have so far.

A lot of the sprites are created, but the game calls for a lot of unique animations. The game takes place on an alien world, in a kind of retro sci fi setting, so there's room to stretch creatively. PM me for more info and samples.

EDIT: I suppose it'd be good to credit the team members thus far so I'm not taking credit for someone else's labor=]
The Backgrounds were done by Scotch, and Matt Rollins created/ wrote/ and is scripting.

I'm personally hoping to have the art assets finished by the end of April, if not much sooner, so this is NOT a stalled project.
(I hope it's just Firefox making that sprite blurry. =] )

Would I have to know something only the accepted Eric would know? ;)

Is this something someone could crash if they lived in the area? Just to meet some of the people here.
I used to live in Ft Luderdale, but I happen to be back down for a the next few months. ;D

EDIT: Oh, and if anyone needs to figure out transportation, at least from the airport, I live near enough, and with a minivan, so let me know. Eric's Free Taxi service available.

I tried adding more depth on the chest before posting this, and it looks like he's hiding balloons. The sprite's too small for that, I think. Same for his crotch. My attention went straight to his pants when I added something there. I fixed the hand. It'll be on the net edit.

Thanks

This mostly addresses the shape of his coat thing. At this size I didn't know how to show the right shape at the waist and chest without it looking too exagerated.

I made the coat pull in more to his lower back and protrude just a bit at the chest.
I used a lower shade for the "necklace" so it seems more like part of the coat.
Dropped his shoulders and the blue hood behind his head a little, and reigned in that blue sleeve.
Fixed his mouth on front view, and altered shading on both.

And while it needs work, thank you, kaioshin. =]

Also, I zoomed in more, but the game'll be 640*, so that's some thing I'm worried about as far as some details showing.

I'm having a hard time figuring out what isn't matching up between these two sprites.

Any help, or critique, would be welcomed and appreciated.
