[Veteran's Rampage]

Okay, it's sort of off topic, but I just completed a short game that I was doing for that MAGS competition, enjoy!

It's very short and really average, but a fun little experience with a nice "beat-box" soundtrack.Ã,  Yes, every sound effect was made with my voice.

It's pretty basic, but for my first finished game and something made in about 3 hours, it's ok.

Microsoft have been pretty stupid lately, first all that crap with the 360s, now another bug exposed in windows and they're trying to avoid it.  If they want people to actually support them in the future, they should really act more responsibly than releasing a bunch of buggy machines that they claim to have been "fully tested" and now trying to avoid an outcry about a serious bug by pretending it's not important.

Yeh, I've already changed the spelling in the game.

I don't exactly know where Mwahahaha came from, but it seemed to fit in later when I used a picture of bowser from paper mario as my avatar on a certain forum and got the unofficial nickname "paper bowser", which seems to fit in quite well with the name "mwahahaha" and later my lesser used username, "Master of Evil".

Does it have to be an adventure game?

UPDATE:  I just made a game in the last few hours (it's almost finished) it's a increadibly short and reasonably violent FPS where you're a war veteran fed up with kids playing soccer near your house.  It also has a full Beatbox soundtrack!

I'm also very bad at legs/feet as you can tell.

Looks great!  Fantastic graphics, I just hope that the rest of the game manages to back them up...

Do you have a mic? For some of my sound effects I literally record me doing the desired effect.

I don't, but my brother has one built into his laptop, thanks for the tip!

OK, I've got a reasonable length on the game now (almost an hour I guess) if anyone wants to test it out, just contact me and I'll get a demo organised.

Also, could anyone tell me a good way of getting sound effects? (footsteps, ect.) Thanks!

I did it in 15:04 just then, and that was without dying and making very few errors.

Yeh, nice list jet, but what about story and script?  They're important aspects of any adventure game, and not really confined to just comedy and horror.

Charaters are fine, but not really a summary for the whole story.

Nah, I've never paid for one, but I plan on making a bit of cash by selling my game at my school for a price for around AU$10, with a few extras, on a disk.  But it'll still be free on the net, just secretly to my idiotic game hungry schoolmates.  MWAHAHAHAHAHA!!!!

Before anyone else suggests something redundant:

There are already categories for best background art, best character art, best music, best sound effects, and best story as well as numerous others.Ã,  I personally don't see a reason to have more story-related categories beyond Best Story, Best Character, and Best Supporting Character.Ã,  Everyone, to my knowledge, is quite happy with the category selection and only a few category have changed through the years.Ã,  So, the categories aren't a big issue.

But seriously, there are games with no real story, but still have there own story-esque charm, but really has no place for recognition under the "Best story" award. So maybe we need some alternate, like "Most ridiculous story, if it can so be called."

On the topic of catagories, if you're going to introduce awards for story and the like, it would make sense to have a "most original game" catagory as well as, say, funniest/most stupidly ridiculous game as well, for those games that are,  as leshaussebons said, complete tripe in terms of story, but intentionally.

A magazine that I have a subscription to had a "make your own adventure game" article, apparently written by Yahtzee, and it recommended AGS, so I decided to make my own game (seeing as I had absolutely nothing better to do) and came here.
