Thanks for taking the time to write a bit about your process as I'm always curious about such things.

Yes, it's definitely possible.  I don't have any concrete examples but a turn based combat system could be done.  At the end of the day it's really just a big pile of variables but I suppose at the end of the day lots of coding is just big piles of variables.  If you're wanting beginning level stuff that's easier to understand you might think about the way RPGs handled combat in the 80s.  Like the original Final Fantasy style combat which is essentially just a menu system.  You could get something like working with just a few GUIs and a few variables.  Honestly, making the "rules" for combat may be trickier than the combat itself.  Sorry this isn't much help but I think starting with a simple system like an old RPG would be the way I would do it to get an idea of how the systems fit together as a start.  Just "attack," "defend," "run" or something like that.  Track HP of your player and enemy in a variable and manipulate that in script.

Oh, yeah, very possible.  The editor has under character an idle view which you can set to whatever you want and then adjust the speed accordingly in script or I think 3.6 has the idle animation delay right in the editor.

Oh, looks great!  Good luck with production.  I love film noir!  Also, if you can't think of an ending just have somebody get sucked into a vortex and then slap a "THE END" onscreen.  Problem solved!

Oh, it's finally out!  I've enjoyed your updates so it's exciting to see that it's finally released.  Felcidades!

Great job, everybody! And Congrats, Elvis!  This one was a lot of fun to participate in and I have a somewhat useable background for something or other so great success all around.

Very exciting!  Big time travel fan so this is a natural.  Good luck with production!!

I hope everybody has fun with this one!  I (obviously) like it.

Those candles are an absolute fire hazard!  Seriously, though, looks great.  Good luck with production!

Oh, jeez, thanks everybody.  I'm honored that you picked my weird little game.  It's really a thrill and I really had a good time making it.  I'll do it again and next time I'll feature some puzzles, lol.

I don't think this would be any easier than making a graphical adventure other than the fact that you don't need any art assets but this can certainly be done in AGS.  You'd just use the text parser for everything which I've only worked with a little.  I can't think of a great way to get a whole page of text up on the screen but I'm sure it can be done.

The technical workflow though wouldn't really be that much different than any other adventure game done in AGS.

Here it is with a character.

Here's my hat in the ring.  It was fun to make and I'm happy with how it turned out although I must give it low marks for playability since it only really works if the character is right up front looking on or one of those three pixel little guys.

Well, I had fun on the last one...

Oh, it's great that so many people have taken the time to play the game carefully.  I'm flattered as well.  I'm really glad that the little details and animations didn't go unnoticed.  Next time I'll put in at least one puzzle, lol.  Really, though, I wanted to actually make a game instead of farting around and that's what I did, which is a great feeling.  It was a great and eye-opening experience.

This is a fun theme.  I'll try to come up with something in the next few days.

Thanks for the heads up.  I fixed it and added the linux version.

Well, I got it out of me.  A MAGS entry for this month.  It might take you a half an hour if you want to talk to everyone and right click on everything.  I think it's pretty good, considering.  Rough around the edges maybe but considering I got it done in a month I'm pretty pleased with how it came out.

Full disclosure: This game contains some reasonably mild pixelated nudity.

Synopsis:

You wash up on some faraway beach.  Did you party too hard or did you just listen to the wrong Woody Herman cassette tape?  Did you cross the timelines?  You did, didn't you.  Whoopsie!!
